I know we may have discussed before in other topics our different theories ad nauseum, but I would like to dedicate a place to put new such theories. (Especially when they have little backing or don't seem like a good argument. Hence the "half-baked". We don't like others who try to make themselves seem smarter than us because they can argue. emo ) Anyway, here's a place where you can discuss such things like: - Is ShikaNeji canon (mainstream)? Does it have a good/bad chance? Will Kishimoto let his gay side out for us anyway? -Other aspects of their relationship (besides the "seme"/"uke myth idea since there's a thread for it. HERE) +Who holds their liquor better and how does this affect their relationship? +Who's more domestic of the two? + Who'd be more/less likely to _____? + Etc.! biggrin I think this would become very entertaining, especially if we come up with really wacky (yet not totally out in left field) questions/theories. Got it? Then...go!

And now for an "argument" about why this pairing is really should be canon:
Remember the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, kids? When both Neji and Chouji nearly died and Shikamaru was distraught over hurting his "important people"?
Okay, we know how important Chouji is to Shikamaru since they're BFFLs. But don't you think it's coincidence that Neji also "died" as well, considering the situation and Shikamaru's reaction?
Now, it's that, superficially, Neji's fight against Kidomaru and his "death" was for the purpose of developing his character and making him the "lovable", non -douchebag that he is today.
However, it could have been Kiba down for the count. I'm sure Shikamaru would feel distraught as well, but for different reasons.
I'm just saying that this could be thickly veiled forshadowing about the idea that ShikaNeji may /actually/ happen in the manga, or CANON.

That would be nice. I'd like to see it happen. Heck, I'd even be happy if just NaruSasu happened, but I'm satisfied as longas Kishi isn't pairing our pretty boys up with the beoches. I kinda think ShikaTem is more likely to happen than ShikaNeji, but I hate ShikaTemari. >.< I don't mind Temari as acharacter per say, and I dont' mind her banging Shika, but Shika's heart's gotta belong to Neji. ^^ ....and I can't think of arguments to back it up considering it's an ungodly hour in the morning.

There was a lot of subtext in the Sasuke retrieval arc to support ShikaNeji, if you look hard enough for it.
It was Shikamaru and Neji who went off and hid in the bushes together when the team separated, and Neji seemed to be the only person besides Chouji who caught on fairly quickly to Shikamaru's plan when they were captured by Jirobou. Which reads that Neji understands Shikamaru, and puts him on the same level as Shikamaru's best friend. The same goes with what Sanee mentioned regarding to Neji's "death".
To put Neji on the same level as Chouji in so many ways --his reaction to Shikamaru's supposed betrayal, his being the only person besides Chouji to have his own one-on-one fight and then be the only other one who ends up severely injured. On top of Shikamaru's reaction to knowing that they would be okay.-- makes it easy to think that it's being implied that he's on the same level as far as Shikamaru is concerned, too. Shizune didn't really have to tell Shikamaru that Neji was was going to recover during that scene, but she did.
I think that, if nothing else, it's good support behind Shikamaru and Neji becoming good friends.
I do think it's unlikely that it'll become canon, though. As fun as it is to read too deeply into these things, it's just not likely for Shikamaru and Neji to hook up in canon. I would be just as happy if they showed some sort of canon friendship, though. Even if they're not sexing, their personalities balance well enough to make an interesting friendship.
As for the other topics xD
Shikamaru definitely has higher tolerance to alcohol. I'm sure Neji's had sake before, growing up in such a traditional clan it's not unlikely that they'd have some for new years and things like that, but I don't think that he's a drinker. Shikamaru on the other hand is a little more laid back and a bit more social. I can imagine him being a social drinker but knowing when to quit, while Neji would have a few sips and be out.
There's fillers somewhere where he passes out after taking some alcoholic curry too, I think?
Shikamaru's more domestic, having been raised by the type of mother who probably forced chores and things on him, and being raised in a more or less stable home environment. Neji's the one who compulsively cleans, I think, but other than that I can imagine he'd probably be pretty newbish about it. Shikamaru will have to teach him how to tend a house, it'll be epically cute.

Hm. That's a hard one. I'll try to ruminate over it (if I remember to) and get back to you on that.
But, just off the top of my head, I think it'd be Shikamaru since he's been shown to like having times in which he doesn't think.And, the such inferior level of intellect present in children's programs would be a perfect way to relax when cloud-watching won't do since it's raining or something.
Plus, it's cracky biggrin .
Who'd be more adventurous in bed after the relationship perameters have been set?

I don't really watch Naruto, but I have noticed that the Shikamaru and Neji pairing is being used more often as side pairings in fanfiction. Which isn't a big step up, but at least more people are getting into it. :B
I believe Shikamaru would also be the more domestic out of the two. Though, I think Neji would be the one to automatically put things in there place after he's done using them or if he sees something on the floor he picks it up and puts it away without thinking about it. But to actually clean, not as in vacuuming or doing the dishes, he would need Shikamaru to teach him how or what to do.
As for the cartoons, Neji. Because of Hinata and whateverhersistersnameis. I can totally see Hinata getting into Sailor Moon and Neji sitting there watching it along with her. xD;;
Shikamaru I can see him also watching cartoons but not entirely caring what he was seeing. I picture him mostly watching game shows or shows like CSI or NUMB3RS.
I'd have to say Shikamaru in the more adventurous. As in he's the one to think of the things to do and 'coaxing' Neji into it.

Shikamaru would be more adventurous in bed, I think. If only because I imagine that Neji wouldn't know much about sex to begin with, except for the basics, and he'd probably be at least a little shy about that.
Not that they would be all that wild to begin with, at least not right away...Shikamaru's creative but his imagination is probably a little lacking...though I imagine if he got some inspiration that'd change...
The fun part would be trying to get Neji to go along with it...

My brain's not all that coherent at the moment, but Shika and Neji get into some petty, stupid squabble all couples get into, Neji's looking sexy, and Shika suddenly gets "inspired", pins Neji with his shadow jutsu, then ravishes him there on the kitchen floor and does some interesting stuff with a can of whipped cream.

When it comes to 'how canon is it', I'd like to say that they have a hell of a lot more interaction with each other then Gaara and Neji ever do, and GaaNeji is for some reason not at all considered a crack pairing. In fact it's really quite common, while ShikaNeji doesn't get nearly enough love. I like GaaNeji too, but ShikaNeji is much more canon.
Sadly, I doubt that Kishimoto will actually make any of the pairings canon, but it also seems that he's somewhat reluctant to cement any prospective pairings in the series, slash or het. He's such a closet yaoi fanboy (who isn't too great at staying entirely in the closet).
I would think that they'd be about even in holding their drinks. Neji would probably be a more emotional drunk though. xd
I think that Shika would be lazy around the home, and Neji would be a little of a neat freak, but I don't think that Neji would really be able to cook, whereas Shikamaru could probably cook at least a little. Still, that's just at the start. I've always thought that Neji could become quite the little housewife with a bit of practice.
Neji would be shy in bed, I think, since his upbringing was rather conservative and traditional, but I think he'd be easy to talk into trying new things.

I do kinda ship it, though. Exactly. xD He'd be all hesitant, and then Shika would say something like "Well, if you just can't do it..." and Neji's pride wouldn't let him back down. I consider GaaNeji a crack pairing, but it's awesome anyway. A lot of people are surprised when I say I think it's crack though, you're one of the first people I've spoken to about it that actually agrees that it's totally random.
