GIVEN TASK/QUEST

It's your first day in the academy! Though classes haven't started, the dorms are open and there are already a few - very few - students around, the shinigami from the third division being more rampant. Basically, you just want to get a "feel" for the academy, because god knows you're going to need it. In the meantime, you try to get a uniform fitted as well as enroll in your classes.

[journal post . check the third division subforum for the classes. if you have any questions, pm suki :3]

Name: Ten'un Keitaro
Nicknames: Kei-kun
Age: 18
Stage: Wandering Spirit
Gender: Male
Birthday: June 11, 1992
Death Date: May 6, 2009
Family: Grandpa, Parents, Younger brother all live at, and take care, of the family shrine. After Keitaro became blind, he got a seeing-eye dog named Pochi.
Personality: Very sweet, and good-natured. He is a devout follower of the Shinto religion. He can be rather clueless at times. He is prone to having klutzy moments due to his blindness, especially since the loss of his sight. You just wanna give him a great big hug. He has more spirit energy than normal individuals. He is able to sense the presence of others, and sometimes his surroundings. He trains using this method to also safely get around-using it like a sixth sense. (Currently he could REALLY use some practice with this-especially if he's flipping out or very disoriented.)
Likes: Animals. Taking care of the shrine, playing with the kids at festivals and telling them stories, hanging out with friends after school(before death), studying, writing, sitting outside enjoying the outdoors, music.
Dislikes: Running/Bumping into things, People who don't respect the kami, disrespect to Shinto beliefs-for instance the taking of lives without respect, for personal benefit.
Mmmm Food: Since he has higher reiatsu/spiritual power than the average spirit, he needs to eat more often. He doesn't really realize this at first; just walks around pouting about being hungry. He also seems to have a fondness for 'sweet snow' aka ice cream

Becoming Blind and Coping

Erina_Nobara
It was a breezy summer day. It was beautiful out. A clear blue sky, and the bright rays of sunshine trickling through the leaves of the trees made shadows across the grass; perfect for relaxing in the shade. But Keitaro wasn't relaxing.

He had his duties to attend to. His little brother was supposed to be helping him, but unlike Keitaro who enjoyed his work, his little brother had weasled out of it by going to the store with their mother; using it as a convenient excuse. Keitaro chuckled to himself though, he wouldn't hold it against him. He never could stay mad at that kid.

Keitaro stood on the front steps of Ten'un Shrine, sweeping away. He didn't think of this as work at all. He enjoyed it. There was nothing like starting the day early, morning prayers, and then heading out to hang a little carved wooden horse at the Shrine's entrance. Then he would head about the rest of the day tending to other shrine-care related jobs. He would never tire of it.

During the weekdays he would put on his uniform and head to school. But not before his morning rituals. Every morning was always the same. And then after school, he might hang out with his friends before heading home; always leaving enough time to finish his work.

But today was a weekend. Everyone was off doing things. There nobody else home. Even Gramps was out visiting some of his friends; probably sitting around having a smoke or a few drinks and playing mah jong. And Father was at work. Working the shrine alone, and living off donations just wasn't enough to get buy.

Well when he stopped to think about it, he wasn't truly alone. The family dog was there, Pochi. Speaking of which, Keitaro glanced around the yard, but the shepherd-mix was no where in sight. Generally the dog was always by his side, following him around constantly. For whatever reason, Pochi had chosen Keitaro as his favorite of the family.

The young, dark-haired boy sighed gloomily. Something about the atmosphere had suddenly gotten darker. He felt different. He stopped sweeping, and looked around for Pochi again, this time calling out his name. "Where IS that dog?" Something wasn't right, and it was beginning to leave Keitaro with an unsettling sense of dread. He wished the others would return home soon.

He set down his broom, and prepared to take a break. Perhaps he would go and look for Pochi so he would at least have some company. "So strange....that he's not around..." And as Keitaro said this aloud, Pochi's barking broke the quiet.

"Pochi?! Where is he? Is he outside?" Kei feared the worst. Maybe when he wasn't paying attention, the dog had wandered a little, and gotten hurt somewhere nearby. "No wait...his barking.....it's coming from....inside?" The center of the Shrine.

Keitro flung the sliding door open, and rushed inside. He turned down a hall, and then another, almost sliding into the wall as he did so. Outside the main room, the dog was standing, tail and fur ridgid, barking at the closed doors. He stopped when he saw Keitaro, and resorted to a low growl, but turned his attention fully on the doors again.Keitaro slowly stepped up to sliding panels, and reached out a hand. With his leg, he had to shove Pochi out of the way. Gently, and ever-so-slowly, he opened and entered the room. There was a heavy pressure here. He could feel it. But why? He moved closer to the center alter, where a decorative-looking mirror rested.

The dog refused to enter the sacred room. He was whining now, and standing just outside the door frame, his focus on the ceiling. Keitaro looked, but there was nothing there. He turned his attention back to the mirror. He walked over, squinting at it. From across the room he thought maybe he had seen something; a reflection that didn't belong there. It wouldn't have been the first time he had seen something odd. Being a spiritual person, he assumed it was normal. Since he was little, he had been labeled 'spiritually aware' by his parents, who seemed very excited; calling it a gift. He had the ability to see things that some others couldn't, 'ghosts'.

He assumed that's what it was. But why was it here? And why did the vibes seem so...bad? A bad ghost couldn't come in here though, not this room at least. There was protection. If a ghost needed help, they would have to wait outside for assistance. It wasn't uncommon for some to come for a simple purification ritual, and leave again. Keitaro lifted the mirror, and tilted it upward. His reflection, and the reflection of the ceiling above his shoulder. Nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe he was just 'off' today. Suddenly Pochi let out a shrill bark.

Within seconds, not even with enough time to blink, there was an exlosion. The glass in the mirror shattered, sending shards in all directions, including into Keitaro's eyes. He could feel the pain, as he tried to cry out, as warm liquid began to trickle down his cheeks. All around him, another series of small explosions. It felt like something sharp was raining down on him, like little daggers. But he couldn't see. It was just darkness, pitch black darkness, and the sound of Pochi's barks. And a new presence? Someone else was here? And then it all faded into black.

----

"Where am I?" Keitaro muttered, trying to raise himself from where he was lying on the floor. "What----what happened?" He winced in pain as he frowned; his eyes hurt like hell. "But why?" He lifted his hands to find bandages on his face. A soft whine came from his left side. His furry companion was curled up beside him, and rose to begin licking the boy's cheek. "M-mom?! Dad?! Where are you? Where is everyone? What's going on? Why-" He was beginning to panic. He couldn't remember a thing. Why were his eyes bandaged? Why was he so tired?

His shouts were interrupted by the voice of his little brother. "Nii-san! Nii-
san! He's awake!" The little boy flew into the room, and grasped onto his
brother. Keitaro nearly had a heart-attack in surprise.

"Be careful!" their mother instructed, pulling the little boy away. "He's hurt, you have to be more careful." Her voice changed to a sweeter tone, when she saw the boy was about to begin crying. His face was already red, and tear-stained. Had he already been crying earlier?

"I should have known this would happen some day. It was probably some brute trying to rob us blind. The God's know we don't have anything, but donations. And the sacred items! Those items belong in the shrine! They are never to be sold!

The great kami of the world put a curse on whoever came in here, and injured my grandson-he will pay!"

"Calm down dad," came father's reply. "We're still not sure that's what happened."

"Well what else could it have been? Look at the state my poor boy's in. Keitaro, what happened? Who was it who attacked you?"

And then came Keitaro's solemn reply. "I-I don't know... I don't remember. I can't remember...anything..."

----

Perhaps the boy would never know. He would never come to find out. About the strange creature that clung to the ceiling above his head that day. Like a spider, creeping steadily toward its prey. A Hollow, having just found a most delicious meal opportunity. The son of a shrine keeper. A boy with a reasonably large amount of reiatsu. And before it could devour it's target, a shinigami came flying to the rescue. She destroyed the Hollow, but not in time to save Keitaro's sight. He'd be forever in the dark. Unless he could find another way to 'see'.

In the meantime, Pochi would be trained as a guide dog, and Keitaro would continue to about living his life to the best of his abilities. Even a sort of sixth-sense, had slowly refined itself, perhaps out of necessity, and partially thanks to his own spirituality. But this skill would definitely need some work, and constant practice.

But how could fate have known that Keitaro and this shinigami would meet again, only a few short years later, into the future, after the boy's accidental death; If only for the shinigami to perform a "Soul Burial" and send him off to the Soul Society.

My Death

Erina_Nobara
That's when the falling began. But this time, it was clearer. Kei had been going to fetch something; something for his grandfather. Was it medicine? Groceries? He couldn't quite recall, but he was heading for the store.

Afterwards he would meet his friends from school to hang out and finish the homework that was due the next day. As he walked towards the shrine stairs, he counted his steps. When he reached where the stairs should be, he reached out his hand, and felt the cool concrete walls against the palm of his hand. Where the stairs ended, the sidewalk began. The street was lined with tall concrete walls, protecting people's properties from uninvited guests. It was quite a nice neighborhood.

Keitaro breathed deeply, taking in all the fresh air. He smiled to himself, as he lowered his foot, and took his first step downward. He counted as he went.

"1, 2, 3, 4-" His foot landed, on an unfamiliar piece of ground. There was a large crack. This wasn't here before was it? But Kei wasn't given time to think.

His foot slipped, as part of the concrete gave. All it took was a small piece of the rock to break off, for the boy to be sent tumbling down. He slid

backward, and pain shot up his back, and then his head. The back of his skull slammed against the steps with a loud crack. But he couldn't feel anything. It

was instant. The next thing he knew, he was standing on the steps again. Or at least that's what he thought. But his sense of touch was still missing. He

reached out, groping for the walls, but couldn't find them. He began to panic, when he heard screaming. He whirled around. Being unable to see, he couldn't

tell what was going on. He could only listen to the crying, and gasping voices that were starting to surround him. He listened harder. What were they saying?

Wait....what? This couldn't be. He was......dead?

---

A few days later, an unexpected visitor came. Someone who could see him. Someone who knew he was still there. It had broken his heart that no one realized

his presence floating around. But finally, a savior or someone bad?

And this is where the dream ended.

Hunger Quest

Haruzawa Komyou

GIVEN TASK/QUEST

Like everyone else when you were alive, you had a favorite food. Though after your death and losing your memory from entering Soul Society, you just don't remember. Lately, you've been craving something to eat; something specific. You've tried different things, but you've yet to find that one thing that you're craving so much. So what do you do? Do you go out and keep trying to find what this thing you're craving? Or do you just forget about it and move on?

A soft breeze drifted by and ruffled Kei's dark hair as he sat on the shrine steps. There hadn't been any visitors today, which gave him the time he needed to think. Lately, something had been bothering him. Around his head it spins, this feeling of trying to remember something he'd been craving. He was hungry. And not just hungry for any old food. It was something in particular. But no matter how much he contemplated, he couldn't think of what it could possibly be. So for this particular afternoon, he made a decision. He was going to find that food, no matter what. He had a pocket of money he had saved with him which he kept in his kimono sleeve.

'It should be plenty,' he thought to himself, as he rose form his seat, and carefully made his way down the steps, past the torii, and guardian statues out into the street. It was time to head to the market. There were all kinds of stalls with food. It had to be there. And so he set off, this time using his abilities for more practice as not to bump into things. He always made sure to use it with the stairs. Now maybe it could help him find what he was looking for.

With each step, he maneuvered his way through groups of people until he reached his destination. And he was correct in assuming there would be lots of food. Not just groceries, but what one might consider 'fast food' and 'snack' stands. All kinds of delicious aromas filled the air. And as he wandered around, he used his nose to lead him in the right direction. There was only one problem, all the vittles, though delicious, weren't what he was looking for. No particular scent was striking. It was as if the food he was looking for had no real odor at all-or at least not much of one.

He had tried all kinds of tariyaki, sushi, cotton candy, other candies, fruit. The fruit and candy had been the closest taste. It was sweet, and sugary. He had spent most of his time in front of the fruit stand, trying things likes apples, and bananas, even oranges. But that still wasn't right. Wait! strawberries? This was...familiar, so close and yet....so far away. Not it either.

The sweet juice as he bit into the berry tickled his taste buds. This was the taste he was looking for in a way. But how? Because it still wasn't right. He was beginning to feel like Goldilocks and the three bears. Hopefully he would eventually find that taste that was 'juuust right'.

What was he going to do? It was getting later and later as time passed, and he was making no real progress, all he had to go off of was strawberries, and hard candies.

Just then, a little girl had noticed Kei walking around, trying different yummy foods, and still he looked rather depressed. She wandered over and tugged at his sleeve. "Excuse me mister, but what's the matter?" she questioned, tilting her head to the side in a most adorable, inquisitive manner.

"Eh?" the sudden tug at his sleeve made him jump. And this caused the little girl to jump back as well.

"Eep! Sorry sir, did I scare you?" she apologized.

"Oh no-no, it's alright. It's just that..." Kei began to explain, as he realized it was a small child that was addressing him. "I can't see. It's alright though. I'm sorry if I startled YOU at all."

"Oh no that's ok mister. You can't see? That's sad mister," the girl replied hanging off his arm, almost like he was an older sibling. But Kei was used to this behavior from children, in both this life, and his previous one.

He smiled. "It's alright. And you don't have to call me mister. My name is Ten'un Keitaro. You can call me Kei though. What's your name if you don't mind me asking?"

"I don't mind at all," the little girl chuckled. "It's Hitomi. It means beautiful eyes. But I think yours are prettier," she stated. "It's too bad it's a girl's name. But I like Keitaro too. It's even nicer."

Kei laughed, "Why thank you. You're very polite Hitomi-chan. Are you out here all by yourself though?"

"No, my friends are here. But we were playing hide and seek, and I got bored so I wandered over here for a snack. I saw you trying the food. But you didn't seem happy. The shop man said the snacks are good, and they'll make you smile."

Kei couldn't help but grin at that. What a kid. "Yes, it's true. You see, I've been so hungry lately, but I for something in particular. But I just...don't remember what it is.....exactly." It sounded rather stupid when he thought about it, but Hitomi didn't seem to mind. In fact, she wanted to help him find this 'mystery food'.

"What did you find out so far?" she questioned. It was like playing detective. She'd be the private investigator, and lay out the clues until they found a solution. Kei decided to play along. "Is it candy?"

Of course that was the first logical response. "Nope. I tried candy, but it wasn't quite right. Strawberries were good though. That seemed...sort of right."

"Sort of right?" It sounded odd. How could something be 'sort of' right.

As questions were asked, one by one, the children that Hitomi had been playing with reappeared. They all wanted to help with the hunt. Now each child was bring Kei samples of all sorts of food while Hitmoi was asking more about their flavors.

People were staring, wondering what all the fuss was about. The kids were enjoying themselves though, as it was like a game. Children were flocking every which direction for treats.

"What about fruit? Or is it hot? Like the teriyaki?" Hitomi questioned. "What about cold like a cold drink?"

"Well now that you mention it, but, it's not hot, and I tried a drink or two but that's not it, though the ice was rather nice."

"Ice! Ice = cold! That MUST be it! I'm a genius!" Hitomi said proudly.

"What?" It was as if she had figured it all out with that one word.

"Ice and sweet flavors! It has to be some kind of sweet snow! Or ice cream they call it. On a stick or on a cone. They have a stall for that" she hummed a jingle, almost like a commercial. "The ice cream man."

"Ice cream.. Ice cream... ICE CREAM! I-I think you're right. Cold, sweet, ice cream. It makes sense. It fits the clues and the tastes."

The children cheered. "It's worth a try!"

So together they went to the stand. There were all sorts of flavors. "Which one do you want to try Kei-san? They do have strawberry. Just like I thought!"

"Umm hmm...well there must not have been candy in it. So no mint flavor either, so strawberry it is!"

The ice cream vendor seemed a little irritated, but he waited patiently, noticing that Keitaro was blind, and the little girl was helping him read the signs of the flavors at first.

"Alright."

They were tired, and worn out, but Kei had used his money to buy all the children their own ice cream. And together they sat on the rim of a fountain in the center of a square eating their cold treats together happily. He was happy he had gone out that day. He'd even made some new friends, not to mention solving the mystery of the craving. <333

The Mysterious Room Quest

Quote:

GIVEN TASK/QUEST

The day started out all right, the morning bright, though in the afternoon, the dark clouds started to arrive and rain started to pour. The others have gone out earlier that day, however, leaving you alone in the shrine. Simply put: it's boring, so you take a little walk around. Accidentally hitting a wall, however, you find a knob, open it and enter the room, door closing just behind you. There's a gust of wind [who knows how that happened] but what you don't see is the huge clock with you in that very room. How do you get out? And what is with the serious-like voice in your head?

Kei felt the change in temperature as clouds rolled in, darkening the sky. The smell of rain was in the air; a storm was blowing in, and it seemed like a big one at that. The shrine was empty, and the priest was all alone. He could have sworn the weather was supposed to be forecasted as sunny. He shrugged the matter off though, weather reports were often wrong. There was a pitter-patter that grew louder, and louder, until the sound of rain was thundering down on the over-hang and a gust of wind nearly blew Keitaro against the building. He shivered, and withdrew inside where it was warm. What would he do until the others returned? Were they alright out in this ghastly downpour?

Maybe Kei would simply take a walk around inside; spruce up the rooms get some cleaning done. There wasn't really anything else to do as of now anyway. He walked to the center of the shrine, and slid open the door to the goddess's room. He moved to step inside, but ran straight into a wall. He tipped backwards, and landed on his rear. What? What was a wall doing here? His head throbbed, as he reached up, feeling around against what felt like a solid, thick obstruction. He knocked on it. He heard an echo from the inside. It was hollow? Reaching further, he found a nob. This was far different from the doors in the shrine. He frowned. What was going on? He grabbed the knob and turned it, pushing through onto the other side. Something told him he was no longer in Kannon's shrine.

There was a large gust of wind, and billowed past, slamming the door behind Kei. Panicking, Kei whirled around, and began beating on the door, but it was to no avail. It was almost as if the door had vanished.
In the background a large clock was looming. You could almost hear the ticking as a pendulum swung silently back and forth. Kei took a deep breath, and focused. Just what the hell was happening.

A deep voice from within seemed to answer him. "What's the matter? Are you afraid?" someone said in a serious manner. The tone was very business-like.

"W-who's there?" Kei choked out in surprise.

"Perhaps if you can find me, I'll tell you," the voice answered.

"That's ridiculous, I can't see."

"Exactly. I promise I won't move from this very spot. If you find me, I'll let you out. If not....you'll run out of time. And then.....who knows what will happen." There was a soft chuckle, followed by silence.

Kei growled. "This isn't funny. I'm not in the mood for games, whatever kind of game this is anyway." But there was no response. The ticking from the clock grew louder.

Kei's eyes widened. Was he really being timed. The weird sound he heard was keeping constant rhythm like a metronome. What was it? Where was it coming from? But that didn't matter. He had to find the voice. But how? There was no one to help him. He had grown used to getting around familiar places without his vision, but this was new. Could he use his powers to focus and see the unseen? He'd done so a few times before though it was blurry, and unclear.

This time had to be different, if he was ever to escape this nightmare, or whatever it was. Some bad dream? Keitaro just wanted to wake up. But no matter how he shook himself, nothing changed. How long did he have? The voice didn't say. What would happen if he failed.

He stood stoic, focusing. He had no idea how to start looking for something that he had never come in contact with before, or for that matter, didn't even have a lengthy conversation with.

He stumbled around in the dark. He couldn't sense any walls anymore. Where the door was, was simply nothing. It was like walking in a void. He let his mind reach out to all the corners of the space he was in, and yet he couldn't find anything-no corners at all. Nothing, absolutely nothing. He couldn't even sense the clock that was there. It almost seemed to be following him as Kei wandered. He had come to the conclusion that this was something like a black hole or infinity, and just walking was pointless. As he was about to give up, he felt a flick of energy, like a little light fly by.

There was a mocking voice in the back of his head. 'You're not even trying.' This made Kei furious. He WAS trying. And there was nothing there. It wasn't even a room. Perhaps he should stop looking for borders, boundaries, and walls. There was no point in trying to shape what the space around him looked like in his mind if it didn't exist.

All he could do was find that voice. But now he had a lead, or so he thought. He had sensed something, but he wasn't sure what it was. It was like following a candle. Kei focused harder. Was this it? Was this the source of the voice. Time went by, as the candle seemed to be moving farther away. Kei broke into a run. "I thought you said you'd stay still!" he called out, feeling more confident.

The voice chuckled. "I did. I'm not moving. Perhaps you are? But are you moving closer or farther away?"

Kei grunted, and quickened his pace. He was gaining on his target. He lept forward, grabbing at the candle in front of him. A blinding light flew up around him along with a light breeze. Instead of a candle he found he was holding something warm, and fluffy. There was no more darkness, just light, and three glowing blue orbs at its center.

"You have done well child. You made it in time. You passed my test."

"Test? Time?" In another wave of wind, Kei was picked up and dropped on the floor. "OW!" he cried out as he landed on his rear again. This time he felt the familiar carpet of the shrine under him. He leaned back, but there was no longer any wall. The sliding door was open, and Kannon's room was behind it.

"What.....what just happened? Was I imagining things?" But in his hand he felt a small tuft of fur; a small tuft of white fur to be exact-not that he could see that. He frowned. It was....real. Unsure of what to make of this, he stuffed the fur in his kimono, and walked back to the kitchen, rather uneasily, but at peace now that he was in his home.

He felt his powers had become stronger, he was more sensitive. Maybe 'seeing' no, 'feeling', wouldn't be so hard one day. After that long, what seemed like forever, 'training session' as he would call it he would get better. It hd been far more weird, and rigorous than he'd ever trained before. But perhaps this is what it took to make real progress.

((hopefully that tuft will be the tuft of fur that he puts on his zanpaktou handle xD))

A Temple Visitor

Haruzawa Komyou

GIVEN TASK/QUEST

Lately you've been feeling down, nothing seems to be going the way you want it and the world seems to be against you. One day while you're walking around Rukongai, an old lady comes to visit the temple. She doesn't speak much until both of you are alone, then out of randomness she says " After the storm there is always peace. " You ask what she means, but she's vanished before you can ask. Amazingly, you start feeling better, you start feeling more powerful. What do you think about the encounter and this new found power? Do you think the old lady's words hold truth?

Kei sighed as the wind blew his fresh pile of leaves all over the place. How many times had that happened now? He finally gave up, and propped his rake up against a tree. Nothing seemed to be going right in general these days, and he felt incredibly down, but he couldn't figure out why. Maybe he was getting sick?

As he contemplated leaving the raking all-together for another day he felt the presence of another. He was being stared at? He moved in the direction he felt the aura coming from. A woman was standing on the path near the building. She was watching him. He walked over. "Hello?"

There was no response, only a shuffling of feet. This confirmed that there really was someone there. Kei wasn't sure what to think. Were they shy? Or perhaps couldn't talk at all. He spoke again, "Um, this is the Shrine to the goddess Kannon. My name is Keitaro. May I help you?" he questioned.

There was still no response.

"........"

"........."

".........."

"Would you like to come inside?" he moved, and began walking inside to see if he was followed. Sure enough, there were footsteps behind him. He didn't feel worried at all, there were no bad vibes to fret about, so he didn't think he was in any danger.

Once inside he asked, "Would you like to say a prayer? The goddess is always listening."

There was more silence. Kei could only assume the person was praying, and so he stayed politely quiet, until the silence was interrupted.

"After the storm is always peace," a voice commented. So it was a woman standing there. But just as she spoke, her presence vanished.

"Huh? What do you mean? ........wait where did you go?" Kei was confused. The aura was gone. His questions went unanswered, but he was feeling better now. He felt as though a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. "Maybe it's true. The calm after the storm," he said aloud, not totally sure what had happened to the woman who was there moments ago. It was best not to think to deeply about it too much though. He was getting used to weird things happening anyway. Right now he felt a lot better anyway. It was a miracle in itself. In fact, he even felt...more powerful? Was it possible? Had he gotten stronger without realizing it? Perhaps he was getting better at 'sensing' and using his powers all along.

And when he went back outside, even the wind had calmed down. He could rake the leaves in peace now. And that was enough to keep him happy.

Beginning School

Haruzawa Komyou

GIVEN TASK/QUEST

It's your first day in the academy! Though classes haven't started, the dorms are open and there are already a few - very few - students around, the shinigami from the third division being more rampant. Basically, you just want to get a "feel" for the academy, because god knows you're going to need it. In the meantime, you try to get a uniform fitted as well as enroll in your classes.

[journal post . check the third division subforum for the classes. if you have any questions, pm suki :3]

It wasn't long ago that Keitaro had been standing in this same room being fitted for his school uniform. He had been surrounded by people that were taking all his measurements. Now he was clad in the white and blue cloth, which had been described to him when they handed it over, knowing the priest could not see it---but still they felt he should know that while he wore blue, the girls would be wearing red. But Keitaro had also kept his talisman, the one that red 'ten'. He attached it to the white rope that was keeping his kimono shut. He considered it a good luck charm. And he would need all the luck he could get now that he had started his first year at the Academy.

Kei left the room after receiving some more instructions that he should take a 'look' around, and get a feel for the place. But Kei couldn't help, but notice how few the number of students seemed to be. And the older students, who were more experienced, were running rampant. The priest, hoped he didn't run into trouble. That was the last thing he needed.

He walked down the hall, memorizing as he went all the turns, stairs, and objects that could easily be run into if he wasn't careful. He even used his 'sight' to make things even more simple for him. Being here already seemed to give Kei a boost of energy. He felt good about himself, like he was finally doing something with his life that he could be proud of; and know full well he was being of good use.

He made his way from room to room, even spending some time outside. Apparently he would come to learn things at this school such as the art of 'soul burial', combat, kido, and other classes. He was looking forward to this. He also wondered who else would be in his classes. Anyone he knew? And who would his teacher be? "Hopefully someone nice.," he thought to himself.

He could feel people passing him by, and he could even SEE silhouettes of figures like gray shadows mulling about flashing in and out, without even trying. He could sense their energy clear as day. So many powerful people here. It was too bad he couldn't see buildings or other inanimate objects in the same way. Come to think of it, the only ones he HAD seen were the torii and the candle from his dream.....or was it dream? He couldn't really recall.

As he walked, his sensitive hearing picked up the whispering of some of the students.

"Is he new?"

"Who is he? He's kinda cute."

"Shh, he's looking this way."

"'Why does he have that stupid stare?"

They had no idea that he couldn't see a thing.
