 D A M A G E . C O N T R O L Damage Control's story was originally created during NaNo 2008, but I was a failpot and didn't plan properly, so I'm re-doing it this year.
I've been collaborating with a friend since about November/December 2008 to create a storyline for the upcoming webcomic (to be started when I fail slightly less at drawing). My NaNo novel will cover only about half of the story.
I've spent the past year building this storyline, developing the characters, and of course, doing research. It's urban fantasy, but I'm aiming for an element of realism here. xD
Plot summary: Matthias Beringer, an awkward young man from a rich family, leaves his his home in England to study at a university in Berlin, Germany. After falling asleep at a bus stop, he is attacked by a vampire and rescued by the hot-headed Captain Raskoph, a woman who both intrigues and terrifies him. Matthias decides to do the most reckless thing he's ever done...
Rating: I am GUESSING it's gonna be about PG-13-ish. I'm not even good at writing anything incredibly gory and there's likely going to be no real sexual content. Just language and some violence/scary situations. Yep, I'm boring.

CharactersArt of many of the characters can be seen here. Matthias Beringer Age || 20 (Born May 3rd, 198 cool Nationality || British Place of birth || Manchester, England (UK) Religion || Reverts to Christianity in times of desperation; agnostic otherwise Description || Gangly, awkward-looking redhead. Cream-colored skin, rosy cheeks, and freckles. Long facial features. Cute in a "lost puppy" sort of way, but not particularly handsome or dashing. Bio || Matthias is a college student from England, studying in Germany thanks to family tradition. He is meek, shy, and physically unimpressive, the sort of guy that occasionally gets shoved into lockers and spends parties trying to be invisible on the sidelines. He has little real ambition and few dreams of his own (besides maybe getting a girlfriend or something). He doesn't particularly want to follow in his father's footsteps, but it's the path that's been laid out for him. A part of him, however, has been looking for a good reason to back out.
Captain Matilda Raskoph Age || 27 (Born July 30th, 1981) Nationality || German Place of birth || Berlin (Germany) Religion || Catholic Description || A tall and slender woman with brown hair and icy blue-grey eyes. She is distinctly unfeminine in appearance, almost entirely lacking curves. The curves that are there are usually hidden under her clothes. Bio || Matilda is a descendant of one of the founding fathers of the Order of Michael. The Raskoph family has been a major influence in the Order since its beginnings. Matilda is a very talented hunter. Her strength, confidence and devotion to her job have earned her the respect of many, but there are those in the Order that dislike her methods, calling her "stubborn" and "reckless." Despite her aggressive temperament, she's quite friendly (under the right circumstances).
Robin Harper Age || 25 (Born February 12th, 1983) Nationality || American Place of birth || Fairview, Oklahoma (USA) Religion || Atheist Description || Standing at an impressive four feet, eleven inches, Robin is often mistaken for a schoolgirl rather than a doctor. She has dark blue eyes and red hair. Bio || What Robin lacks in height, she makes up for in pure genius. A childhood prodigy, Robin skipped several grades and graduated from high school at the age of fourteen. She's a doctor with a mad scientist streak (or maybe a mad scientist with a doctor streak?). When she's not sticking band-aids to the Captain, she's usually in the lab with Rollins, inventing new weapons or working on her pet project-- an android built especially for the Order. She is fascinated by the supernatural and often makes odd requests for objects like dragon's scales or vampire teeth. She is a warm, cheery person, and oddly enough, one of the few people that can stand up to Captain Raskoph. Freya Age || 3 Nationality || German... Shepherd Dog xD Place of birth || An animal shelter in Frankfurt Religion || She believes there is a Dog. Specifically, it is her, and she requires feedings from you now. Description || German Shepherd Dog with liver and tan coat. Basically like this. Bio || Freya is Captain Raskoph's beloved pet and partner. The Captain takes Freya nearly everywhere she goes. She's trained to sniff out threats, defend her master, attack on command, and shake hands. Milk bones are her favorite thing in the world.
Katherine Raskoph Age || 22 (Born January 20th, 1985) Nationality || German Place of birth || Frankfurt, Hesse (Germany) Religion || Catholic Description || A frail-looking young woman with the distinctive, piercing "Raskoph eyes" and mouse-brown hair. She often wears a blank expression. Bio || Katherine is Captain Raskoph's younger sister and an exorcist for the Order of Michael. Her ability to see and communicate with ghosts and spirits is much better than that of the average person, meaning she is a rare and valuable asset to the Order. Unfortunately, it's sometimes difficult to communicate with her, since her head is always in the clouds. She seems to have little interest in romance (much to Linus and Matthias' dismay) or, for the most part, people in general.
Linus Mann Age || 23 (Born January 20th, 1985) Nationality || German Place of birth || Marburg, Hesse (Germany) Religion || Catholic Description || A stout fellow with dark hair and eyes and a round face. He is thick-set and strong. Bio || Linus has been working for the Order of Michael for two years. He's a very friendly and easy-going sort of guy who always maintains his calm, even in a fight. Like Matthias, his goal in life seems to be finding a girlfriend.
General Viktor Raskoph Age || 50 (Born August 8th, 195 cool Nationality || German Place of birth || Frankfurt, Hesse (Germany) Religion || Catholic Description || A tall, muscular man. His hair is brown, greying at the temples. He has a scar on his forehead, near his hairline on the right side. Bio || Viktor is the former Captain, now a General, and uncle to Matilda and Katherine. He took over as a father figure for the girls after their own father died and helped each of them develop their talents as best as he could. He himself is well respected in the Order for his skills. Though his hunting days have, for the most part, drawn to a close, he is still quite strong (and adventurous). He serves as the main representative in the Order for Germany, not to mention Team Dad for the Berlin headquarters.
Ryfka Holst Age || 28 (Born June 19th, 1980) Nationality || German Place of birth || Frankfurt, Hesse (Germany) Religion || Likely agnostic, though she was raised protestant Christian Description || A beautiful and shapely woman with dark eyes and auburn hair (she dyes it). The sort of lady that causes passing cars to hit poles. Bio || Formerly a member of the Order, Ryfka broke off for unknown reasons after Matilda Raskoph became Captain. She moved on to become a mercenary of sorts, taking on all sorts of jobs from ghost-busting to assassinations, regardless of morality or the law. She's a master of stealth and disguise and has an annoying habit of disappearing one day and re-appearing in an entirely different country the next. Her primary interest seems to be money. She is a wanted criminal in a long list of countries. Ryfka is talented at using her womanly wiles to get exactly what she wants.

The Order Of Michael The Order of Michael was founded in England in 1423 by Michael Wescott. Official doctrine states that the Order was named after the archangel Michael, but there are suspicions that its founder was possibly just self-absorbed enough to name it after himself.
It is an international organization that has spread to nearly every country. In most places it is government-funded, and in many places it receives a lot of church donations.
The Order's tasks include:
-Hunting and killing supernatural threats such as vampires, werewolves, and ghouls; -Appeasing or exorcising unfriendly ghosts and spirits; -Studying the supernatural; -Creating vaccines to treat bites from vampires and the like; -Collecting and guarding magical artifacts to keep them out of the wrong hands; -Locating and closing "demon gates;" -Trying not to leave too much of a mess.
It is important to note that the Order, for the most part, tried not to participate in wars, witch burnings, or any other human-vs.-human conflicts, though international strife often created some tensions.

May those who accept their fate be granted Happiness
I agree; I like Matthias' religion. It's funny how common that actually is.
May those who defy their fate be granted Glory

@ Gabrielle - xD It is pretty common, and veeeery familiar to me, though I eventually went totally agnostic. Maybe I'll have Matthias struggle a bit with that...
@ tarot - Thanks! I'll definitely post at least some excerpts. If people take an interest in those... well!

Rawr! *Tackles you* Boredom, so I am stalking your thread! You know, I just realized that with Matthias' love of books, and my character, The Story Teller's love of book sand writing and such, they'd be good friends, or so I think ^^

*TACKLE'D!* Oof! That's okay, I didn't need my spleen anyway.
xD Hehe, I can just imagine the two of them spending an afternoon... in a pile of books. Best rainy day ever.

>.> Sorry about your spleen, lol.
Heck yeah! The Story Teller would be really friendly towards him. Super different from Matilda, if I'm not mistaken, lol.

Hahah. xD Matilda is semi-friendly to him in a very unconventional sense of the word. As in she keeps him from dying but otherwise sort of abuses him... their relationship is a strange one...
