((I thank WINGS for this marvelous FAQ))

If you are confused about any part of the Saga, ask your questions here and they will be answered! When enough questions are rallied together, we will make this thread an FAQ and organize all these questions in a neat manner, so don't be afraid to ask.

Also, please do not spam any other subforum with questions. This thread has been made specifically for clearing up any gray areas that you might be curious about.

And -snips ribbon- open!

F.A.Q

1. What is Steampunk anyway and how does it specifically relate to this RP?

Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. (directly from Wikipedia).

There are things like mechanical limbs, steam powered motorcycles and airships of various kinds (and trains...obviously). Much of the 'steam punk' element is still up in the air as that aspect has yet to be heavily explored by any characters or players thus far. I can tell you that there is not genetic engineering or cloning or anything of that sort -- that is far too advanced for the world we've built thus far. Cars are not common but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Other types of vehicles, flying machines besides airships, steam driven guitars, whatever--if you want to create any of these sorts of things, it can be discussed and added in world building.

2. Is it okay to post a thread in the main forum?

No. It's reserved for crew and the captain for announcements and important information. (This is listed in the rules by the way.)

3. Exactly what threads are appropriate to post in the OoC chitchat?

Anything that can involve other users. It's made as a place to get to know your fellow RPers better. You can get a pretty good idea just by going around and looking around at what's already in there--the topics sometimes have to do with WINGS and sometimes they don't.

4. What is the proper criteria when making a character? Is it okay for a guy to have ridiculously long hair, or is it okay to have unnatural hair/eye colors?

We don't stick strictly with Steampunk era fashion but I think a man with hair to his knees, for instance, would honestly be out of place in any setting but high fantasy anyway. Hair and eyes should be normal colors unless one is an Auldelen (if that's the case, look to the tribes thread in worldbuilding to get an idea of what they should look like.

Any extreme oddities like white hair, red eyes and the like should be either related to your character not being Human (and if you're creating a new race, you need to post it in World building) OR directly related in some way to their Auldelen species.

If your character is a normal human, they should look normal. No exceptions.

5. How many characters can a person have?

As far as how many characters are appropriate--as many as you can RP without neglecting people. If you can handle nine characters and not neglect a single one, great. If you can only handle one, that's fine too.

6. How do I introduce my character into the Main RP?

There are a lot of ways to bring your character into the main RP. You can choose to do one or two posts introducing them doing something they would normally do to give others a chance to know where they are, who they are and decide how to meet up with them.

Or you can use the city map to locate shops, residences and places where characters can be found and then check with their players to see if the characters are there and available to be interacted with.

Or you can post in character threads to find out who you can meet up with and start getting involved with.

Most people just jump right in so feel free to do the same!

7. What do I do if I want to get involved with specific characters in the RP?

The best thing to do would be to post in the character's thread in the character forum so you can the other player can talk about when and how to do this.

8. What is the affiliations section of the character template?

Simply put, that's the area you can put any family members or organizations your character is in. By organizations, there are many that can be found in the Worldbuilding subforum, along with the characters that are inside that organization.

9. How do I get my character involved in an OoC roleplay?

Kind of get your bearings for a bit, and simply waltz on in. It's made as a place for fun or to do something while you wait. There are little to no rules n that area.

10. Is the only language used in the RP English?

Unless you are of another species that doesn't speak English, then yes. Existing languages are not acceptable unless it is of another species.

Do Gorgonites need to be majjes, sajjes, or druids in order to utilize their minionizing abilities?

I'm going to say no. Because I think that majje/sajje/druid arts are more of an Elen thing so far fewer Auldelens would know how to do those things. (Aero can correct me if I'm wrong).

Also, Itren was wondering if Seth could make minions, being a Gorgonite Halfling. And Seth is pretty obviously none of the above so it stands to reason the Itren is aware you don't have to know any magic arts to make minions. =)

Again, aero can correct me if that is wrong.

[Edit] Based on what I remember from the conversation Aero and I had about Sethrian, I think the minionizing thing is a natural side effect of Gorgonite venom.

Yes, the minionizing is a Gorgonite thing---it doesn't matter what you are. So long as you're Gorgonite, you should be able to do it.
