Name: Grumoten "Mote" Risandra
Age: 14
Appearance: Bright blue eyes, with a shock of shaggy black hair which sticks out all around her head.
Mote prefers function over fashion, and wears secondhand clothes to keep a low profile. She had a bit of a growth spurt already, but is still quite short. Her hands are nimble and her face is usually fixed in a cocky grin.
Species: Halfling Flamestrung. At the outset of the story she has never exalted, nor seen a halfling exalt; she is ignorant of this possibility.
Weapon, if any: Concealed knives of various lengths. She keeps her collection sharp and clean and ready at a moment's notice. Also usually carries around Harley, her wrench, which could be used to bludgeon people? :p
Star of (if any, requires permission): Hephaestus
Abilities (if star provides it): A remarkable intuition concerning technology. She has the ability to repair anything she can lay hands on, but her true skill lies with metals. In secret, she practices a form of metalbending- whispering to scraps of discarded metal to shape them into exactly what she wants. This skill lay undiscovered until recently, and she has worked to refine it. She has noticed that the purer a metal is, the easier it is to command.
Profession: Works in a garage/chop shop in Istence, repairing old vehicles and newer Dirons and stripping what can be saved from wrecks in the junkyard.
Social status (noble, peasant, middle class, etc): Lower-middle (Working) class
Sexual orientation: Straight
Personality: Sarcastic and silly by turns. The raging hormonal angst of puberty can catch her off guard, but otherwise she's confident to the point of cockiness.
Short background/history: Her father was Flamestrung, her mother Elen. She doesn't remember much about her father, only that he left her mother mentally unstable at his absence. He left when she was four, and her mother died of alcoholism (or a broken heart) when she was ten. By that time, her skill with broken things was obvious and she applied at Chargrin's. The shop owners, twins in their thirties named Kyle and Kyrin, were not interested in taking a kid on, until they saw her work. She's remained there till this day, and though she works hard in the shop, she is careful to keep her metalbending a secret.
Affiliations (relationships, alignment with various societies, et cetera): She is a valued worker at the chop shop, where the owners have kept her precocious skill a secret from their competition in order to keep others from luring her away. Her best friend Bax lives with his mother in the same tenement building that she's lived her whole life.
Anything else: Mote knows she cannot remain undiscovered among the Elen for long- stories of her skill with a wrench are already spreading throughout the borough where she lives, and sooner or later the truth will out. She has been saving part of her paycheck for the past three years in wait for the day. Fear of discovery has prompted Mote to run away from home; she takes up the position of mechanic onboard
The Flying Mushroom.
She never had any formal schooling, although she understands basic math, can read basic words, and print her name thanks to Chargrin, the founder of the chop shop, father of Kyle and Kyrin.
Handicap: Although blessed by Hephaestus with a talent for metal-working, she is also cursed by the same token. Mote's left leg is bent and twisted below the knee, and has been since birth. She is unable to walk without the use of crutches or a painful brace. She has built up a stronger tolerance for pain so that she may wander the junkyard in search of parts, but if she walks around too much, the brace rubs against her bad leg and makes it bleed. Most people are unaware of her bad leg, because she takes great care to hide her brace inside her oversized pants.
