I hate to make waves when I've only just joined, but I'm going to play the devils advocate here for a second, by bringing up this question.
Can you really classify Captian Hammer as a 'Bad Guy'?
First of all, I love Doctor Horrible, and thus dislike Captian Hammer because he is 'the nemesis'. And I understand Doctor Horrible was a guy more or less trying to make the world a better place in his own way, and didn't deserve to be abused by Captian Hammer at such a personal level (I.E. the comments about Penny).
But other then that, wasn't everything Captian Hammer did to stop Dr. Horrible, according to his job as a superhero, completely justified? Dr. Horrible was stealing gold from banks and hoping to 'freezray' people, and as a superhero it was Captian Hammers duty to make sure the good doctor didn't do these things. Plus, according to what we see on the video, he never goes terrebly overboard when stopping Dr Horrible; don't get me wrong, he's a complete bully, but he never goes as far as to even just break bones, which he could clearly easily do with his super strength.
I'd also like to point out his relationship with Penny wasn't a complete wash: for awhile there, Penny seemed genuinly happy with the guy, and later in the episode seemed only either bored by him or mildly turned off by his boorish attitude. And though he was a complete jerk about it during his speech, does that also take away from the fact that he was activly, even if it was just to please Penny (who, I'd also like to point out, due to certain comments in some of his lyrics, looked like he was honestly considering spending a long term relationship with her) , working to help the homeless?
I have a couple more points, but I feel like I'm ranting, and I'd love to hear some counter-arguments first before I bring them up. So, what do you guys think? Does Captian Hammer deserve the villainous description most fans put on him? If so, why? And if not, why not?
Also, and I hope this really doesn't need saying, but if you want to discuss, don't get angry about it. I'm just curious to see what people think about this.
