The Crystal Room was filled with colorful lights and their reflections in gems, crystal, and glass. Faerie Folk flitted about, adding their own surreal glow to the party, as they added their cheer and playfulness to the high spirits already filling the room. Adding to the sounds were the shushing sighs of ladies gown, and the murmur of voices spoke still more of the party's livelieness. Pine scents drifted, from both wreaths and the large fireplace where giant logs burned, their fresh scent accented by other smells: cinnamon, perfume, and the delightful odor of the garlands of winter flowers that decked the walls. Music drifted through the grand room, and dozens of couples twirled by, faces flushed with exhuberance, and perhaps a bit of wine, as they danced. Throughout the room was the general air of good spirits, merry emotions, and people having a grand time.
The serving staff, all as elegently dressed as the celebrants, were equally merry, adding polite, witty remarks to conversations, or an aproving, flirtatious glance at someone who smiled in return as the staff carried trays of drinks, delicasies, and other treats to any who desired one.

But it was days like that, full of joy, hope, and laughter, that made people lower their guards. The ball was one that was to be enjoyed, something to remember, but not necessarily for it's beauty, or the pleasure people found in it.
Three days... Three days later... The trouble arrived... And it came in droves, with sword and fire, blood and death...
And the war began, drawing a peaceful nation down into the slaughters of War...
Who shall be the victor? Only you.... Only you can decide...

((Yaaay! *belatedly hugs kiku and posts profile*))
What is your Side: Asellion, born in Drathel
Name: Anyara Lesibeth
Age: 17
Appearance: Tall and slender, she is muscled all over from years of hard labor and fighting off over-eager gaurds who didn't know the meaning of 'No.' Her hair is a dirty blonde colour, cut short and choppy, a rough cut done with a dull blade. Her eyes are oddly matched, one emerald, the other sapphire of hue, and beneath the patched ragged clothes and maintained facade of dirt, and the scars of the lash and beatings, she holds a quiant beauty in her form. Masterfully hidden, her appearance contrived to conceal it, but there.
Weapons: The whip from the whipping post of her old Lord--her silent retaliation at his treatment of his 'servants'-- knives filched from the armory, and a curved sabre whose use and blade were given to her covertly by a guard named Kinnen.
History: A former servant, though perhapse 'slave is a better term, though she never wore a collar, of a Drathellion Lord of high rank, she tired of the work, the beatings, the assaults and the 'lives' that they, as servants, were forced to live. Some three days after Midsummer, when the guardians had not awoken from their short sleep, she fled, taking with her the stolen weapons, the hated whip, and the blade she had been given. She crossed over into Asellion territory in the short days before Drathel called for war. She has wandered since then, seeking a home, or someone to help her fix the land she once knew and loathed.
Magic: Yes
--Affinity: Fire and plants, she has a weak Talent, enough to be useful lighting fires and working in the gardens; enough to preserve her life under her ex-Lord, though not her hide. She studies as best she can, but has little knowledge on how far her gift may extend, and no one to teach her the boundries of her strength.

Belated Asthellion and Drathellion facts:

Eons past, when the Gods were known to walk the mortal soil, Asthel and Drathel were sister nations, allies, like twins, in everything they did. Indeed, many thought the two lands one, and said they were from "Asdrel."
Yet the days of Sisterhood dwindled, and the Gods withdrew to supervise from their homes beyond the skies. It was in those dark days after the Withdrawl that the traitorus heart of Drathel was revealed. Hidden from sight, suspected only by the Gods, Drathel had built an army of great power. With this might, Drathel began an assault on Asthel, reaping blood and death at every pass. It was when the Drathellion King came to Asthel's capital, to the High Temple of the Gods, that the thirst was stopped.
It was never learned what happened to that King, or how all of Drathel's armies were returned to their side of their border, but it was done. And out of the stone of the mountains, the fire of the world's heart, and the fury of the sea came the Guardians. Great beings, Demi-Gods themselves, created by the Gods, whose only mission was to ensure that Asthel and Drathel never warred again.
But Demi-Gods cannot keep the same Silent, Eternal vigil over lands that True Gods can, and on Midsummer's night, the shortest night of the year, the Guardians sleep.
Yet this year... This time... The Guardians did not awaken from their slumber, leaving the borders between ever ready ever-seething Drathel, and the peaceful land of Asthel.
Now, Asthel struggles to muster an Army, to find mages of all kinds who will come to the nation's banners in its hour of need. Before history is repeated, before the Drathellion's can achieve whatever strange goal they had in mind when first they turned their kinship into a blood-loathing. Yet if History tells true, there will be many lives lost before the war is done.

((Oh... Right... sweatdrop ))
Three Days Before the Dark Dawn... (The day the Guardians failed to wake, a commoner term)

It wasn't uncommon that people visited the Temple at the Asellion capital.
It wasn't uncommon that they go pray where they like within its grounds.
It wasn't even uncommon that they come from any walk of life. Indeed, it was expected.
What surprised the Keepers of Shrines was that this girl came when no one else was there. She dressed in tattered clothes, and looked far the worse for wear, like a slave run away. But most surprising was the whip in her left hand, bound with scarlet thread so that it couldn't be uncoiled.
This girl, so tall, too skinny, turned mutely to the Fire Shrine. A curious alcolyte stayed to patch as she prayed, and blink as she placed the whip in the brazier where a fire always burned. He left as the dark smoke coiled away from the shrivelling leather.
He missed seeing the now coal black leather, marked with crimson all throughout, still slightly smoking, land in front of the girl.
It is your destiny... to choose... Justice or what lays beyond... the Guardians... Wide, bi-colored eyes stared at the bronze, copper, and gold relief of the Phoenix, at the orange, red and yellow enamel flames around the giant bird.
She swallowed convulsivly.
You chose Justice... Once... But is such... worth... your life...? Choose... Choose... Thin scarred fingers closed on the smoldering whip, but were not burned. she did not know that others in other shrines, then and at other times, were facing similar things. As--were they truly the Gods?--the strange, unseen beings, with voices almost unbearable for mortal ears they were so perfect, began to call together an army...
And Anyara quietly, mutely, fled the Temple, doing her best to not appear to be fleeing.
((If you want to get a call, go ahead peoples, make an offering of some kind (Water has a crystal bowl of water in its shrine, and stone an empty stone urn that empties itself, all very pretty, elegant, wonderous, etc. What you would expect of the main church of a very big Church.))

A tall, skinny girl traveled quickly in the darkness toward the water temple. Her black clothes hid her well in the shadows. The girls feet clad in simple, clean tall black boots were quiet on the cobblestone streets as she moved with purpuse to the temple block of the city.
Mizu's bright blue hair and gleaming red eyes were well known at the water temple and the servers there quickly stepped out of the way as she hurried up the temple's steps. Only few of the servers there were still catious about Mizu, for she had unusual an atribute. From under the vibrant hair stuck out two pointed ears. For Mizu Tomoshibi was a powerful sorceress she was born with the ears and hair that identified her as one. Her hair identified her as a water worker. Her ears showed her as a sorceress.
And so, the sorceress Mizu hurried into the temple.

Quietly and slowly entering the dimly lit room of the water temple Mizu approched the crystal bowl full of the sparkling lights that was the main attraction. Holding her hands over the crystal bowl the water formed in her hands and floated in a small water drop between Mizu's hands. The small boble of twisting, glittering water floated between hands with long slender fingers. Releasing the globe of water to hang in the air above the light crystal glass.
Just as the she released the water above its crystalin bowl it lit up and Mizu startled back a step, red eyes showing surprise. The rest of the room went dark.
Do you know what path you will choose to walk?
Came a soft wispering voice from the lit up ball of water. Mizu was silent in the presence of the diety she'd worshipped for so long. She was unsure why it'd chosen to speak now.
Do you know... what your choice will be? The precence that came with the voice wighed heavily on Mizu but she refused to bow down.
Quicky, you must choose. You must... know...
Mizu still remained silent but the water spirit said no more and the lights in the room came back on. She turned quickly and hurried out, dress whispering around her as she left.

The Dark Dawn...

Anyara got the distinct impression something was wrong. This far from her homeland, she woke with the sun, instead of hours before. This far from home, she should have seen dawn just begining through the open shutters of her cramped room.
This far from home... the sun should be rising... The Phoenix declaring her eternal Justice...
But there was no sign of Dawn. Only an oppressive weight that hovered, pressing heavily on her heart and dragging her spirit down, as though it were bound in black leaden chains.
What had happened?
She rose, collecting her gear from the low stand by her pallet, her weapons from their places all about her, sheathing them and settling them on her person. She would find out...
If only Kinnen was here. He would help her. But he was back there. Back serving a master who held his mother and sister enslaved, only spared the vileness by the knowledge that Kinnen could and would destroy him if he disgraced either woman.
She missed them. They had been good people in a bad land.
She stepped outside, eyes wide. Where were the stars, then?! If there was no sun, would there not be stars? Not be a moon?
The sky was flat. All dark heavy velvet with no trace of glitter, no amulet of the full moon that should have been. it was as though the sun had risen, but shedding only black light, dousing the glow of the cestial lights, and giving no glow of its own.
"Dark Dawn..." She whispered, horrified. what could it mean?
Light would not come that day. Dark Dawn. Dark Day...

Mizu stood out at the back of the Water Temple, leaning against the wall and looking up at the dark sky, wishing the light of the moon could be there to consoul her and help her think.

What had the Spirit of the shrine ment, choose? Know? Mizu let out and angry growl and banged her head on the stones. How could she choose what she knew nothing of? It angried her so.

Finally, a while and a great headache later Mizu walked out to the front of the temple again and slowly proceeded up its steps once more. She went slowly, still thinking if her choice was the right one.
Walking back into the dimly lit room of the temple Mizu bowed to the crystalin bowl with the water droplet still hovering in the air over it. When she did so the little bubble of water lit up, reflecting the lights of the Aurora from an unseen sky.
So, have you chosen?
Asked the soft whispery voice.
"I know what my choice will be." Mizu replied steadily nodding her head slightly.
And... what is that?
There was silence from Mizu then as she debated how to respond.
After another minute she ended the silence.
"My home."
