The other day i cut for the first time.
I did it on my upper theigh so no one would see.
I'm only 13, if people knew I cut they would judge me and think I was a lost cause.

Maybe they would be right.

I don't know what to do. I can't stop. I'm leading myself down a road of pain and suffering.

How can I stop myself from cutting before I get too addicted?

... People might judge you, yes, but I won't - and I'm sure there are several more people who won't judge you either. I don't think you're a lost cause... maybe just a bit sad... Please... don't hurt yourself - It does seem like the best way out, but I don't believe it is.

There is no way no one can make you stop, it's a decision that you have to make yourself

Please, don't hurt yourself. I believe it's quite easy to get addicted, and I don't want that to happen to anyone! Stay safe, okay?

(Sorry if that wasn't much help)

The easiest way, in my opinion, is to just say no, think abotu the people who care about you (Friends, family, whoever) and hold on tight to your moments of happiness. That right there is probably the reason I'm still here, because every time I've considering doing something to myself, suicide or anything else, I go through the motions, and just before I plunge the blade... I stop... memories of those who care about me come up, and then I stop. After that happened a few times, I decided that killing myself wasn't going to do anything but make the pain worse... for everyone else...

I can relate to your story...a little too well. One thing I can promise you is that you are not a lost cause. I don't believe any human being can be a "lost cause."

Self-harm is a very, very long and difficult road. The fact that you already know that is admirable, and something I would have liked to know when I started on it. Not everyone is able to turn away from it once they start. I wish you the very best, but if you ever need a little support, we'll be here.

Nomzie did a good job answering your question. There sadly isn't a foolproof off switch. If you can't avoid the things that are triggering to you, the most you can do is find a healthier way to cope with them. Many people turn to music, art, colorful talking horses or anything else that can soothe them. Distractions can be very helpful, and you shouldn't be afraid to use them if things get...rough. Like it's already been said, though, the only way to stop is when you say so. It's never typically easy, but with the right support, it's most certainly doable.

Again, I wish you the best. Take care of yourself, because you're worth it, even if you don't feel that way. With the right drive and support, I know you'll have no problems beating this. I think I probably speak for everyone here that if you need us for anything, don't be afraid to send a message.

I try...But it's like as soon as I pick up the blade all I can think about is how much I need to feel the pain.

Thank you so much, You are so sweet.
What you said about distracting yourself from picking up the blade is good advice. I play piano, maybe I can go do that and play a piece instead of hurting myself.

Thank you. heart

You like ponies, don't you Genesis? razz

Ponies has actually done wonders for my mental health. In fact I would recommend watching a few episodes from the first season. The life lessons in there are applicable in your own life, a few have come to mind on occasion. This fandom... it is the support group I have ever come across, and I wish I could hug every one of them. So go ahead and give it a shot. if you don't like it, then you don't like it.

There's a possibility.

Seriously though, I agree with you completely. From the beginning of last year to about the middle of it, the show and the fandom were able to come as close to curing me of self-harm as anything else has without me ever saying a word. Then things kinda happened, and I fell back into it anyway, but...The point is, the whole thing can definitely be therapeutic. We probably shouldn't derail the thread though (we could probably go on about this for awhile).

To taking-risks, I think piano is a fantastic idea. I personally couldn't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it, but I imagine that being able to create music could express all of the emotions for you that you're trying to deal with. I believe that things can be there for you just as much as people can, and I pray that the piano will give you the right support.

I started cutting when i was 12 (16 now) and I got addicted right when i stuck the blade into my arm to make my very first cut.. Once you cut, your already addicted in my book.. even if you only cut once your a cutter, always a cutter...
But there are ways to distract yourself from this bad habit, Go out with friend to the mall or park or each others houses, try to be involved with other people and the learning experience of meeting real and fake friends maybe frustrating but very rewarding at the same time (: And listen to music that gets you in a happy hyper mood ^^ or dance or do whatever your hobby is that can distract your mind from this (: if this is the first time then it should be easy to distract yourself unlike me that just sat around with a blade in my hand when no one was home /:

Good luck hun! <3
