~:A Vixen's Troubles:~ Full Name: Vix Mythrylpaw Age: Young-Middle Teen Gender: Female Species: Kitsune Furre Physical Description: She is fully covered in both a down coat as well as guard hairs of a light yellow persuasion. Her ear tips, her tail tip, and from her muzzle running down her neck and over stomach are covered in white fur. From her wrists forward on both hands she has the same white fur, looking almost as if she were wearing a pair of white gloves. She has a light build, but well-muscled hind legs stable enough to run long distances at a steady pace. She has green-blue-hazel colored eyes, with the dominant color tending to be the brown as it's the darkest of the trio. Her eyes are, however, a matching color. Personality: Naturally inquisitive about things, Vix loves exploring and learning about almost everything. She's up for adventure at every turn (or so she claims) and is very apt to stick her nose into places she probably shouldn't. She also tends to act and talk tough, but she has a shyness to her that is especially present in larger cities where she is most likely overwhelmed by the new scents, sights, and sounds. Vix is a little touchy, sometimes to the point of anger, in regards to her name and her own species in general. Headstrong and stubborn at times, it's very obvious that she gave her poor Master a run for his money when she was a younger kit - and no doubt that she continues to do so. ~ biggrin ress:~In perfect stride with her personality, Vix is never seen in dresses or skirts. In place of that, she wears a men's tunic with tapered sleeves and a keyhole neckline with trim. A belt of simple design, as well as a belt pouch, can usually be found around her waist. Her preferred tunic color is a shade of green, with a brown trim to it. She will, however, wear plain browns if she needs to. She doesn't wear shoes, as she has no need for them and finds them rather uncomfortable. In colder weather, or when there's a strong wind or chance of rain, she will wear a simple cloak with a small bronze or twine clasp. Loose linen pants finish off her garb. (Feel free to click on the links to view example pictures.)~:Name Analysis:~Vix is a broken form of the word ‘vixen’, which is typically used to describe a female fox. The use of that as her name suggests a detachment from the normal naming criteria, as well as a strong affinity for her own lineage. Her surname is a throw back to older days, when magic and human knights went hand-in-hand. Thomas Mythryl was a famous and well-written about human mage who accompanied Sir Magnus Dellwood in his many adventures. Her own addition of ‘paw’ reinstates that, although she wishes to be like the powerful human mages of older tales, she is aware that she is far from human. Many believe that her name is something that she chose - for obvious reasons. Thomas Mythryl never had any children of note, and so any evolution of his name could not have stemmed from his offspring. Because of this, she is often made fun of in the human town she lives in. ~:Skills:~She is adept at identifying and gathering plants and herbs, due to Master Luffen's insistance on those tasks. She isn't exactly nimble at sewing, but can manage tacking things together even if it isn't exactly pretty. She hasn't handled any type of weaponry, which is also due to Master Luffen. As far as her mage abilities go, she has some natural white fire magic which she can use to manipulate medium-sized fires and create small flames. This is primarily used in her own entertainment, as well as mingled in with her bit of acrobatics and juggling to amuse people in the towns. Luffen is primarily working with her in fire and earth magic, fire being her inborn talent and earth being his professed specialty. She can do little more than listen to plants and encourage growth at this point, but she hopes to do great things. ~:Wanted Profession:~Since Vix was big enough to speak, she's been saying that she wanted to be a mage just like Master Luffen. And for all his balking and whining about it, she's managed to get him to teach her things and to continue to do so in exchange for her doing specific tasks and chores for him around the house. He needs herbs and plants gathered for his research as well as for certain spells, and little known to her being able to identify and find such things are part of her training. Beyond magery, Vix has a knack for acrobatics. She taught herself how to juggle, and is decent at telling a story. If something ever happened to get her seperated from Master Luffen, she could probably get by performing as a glee(wo)man. That specific profession would take her across the continent and to many different towns, which is what she ultimately wants to do - see the world. ~ razz ast:~Vix was found Northwest in the Kingdom of Glades from the main humanoid populations more than a decade ago by Elwood Luffen on his travels. She had been abandoned in the forests on the borders of Shivoenn, and the old mage took her in out of kindness. It was rare for the forests to let such a youngling survive unharmed, and he knew well enough that it would have been more than fate for him to find her. He took her back along the river to the east of where he found her to his own home and raised her there for around half a decade. It was then that he decided it was time to move on, as it was too difficult to ship in supplies for them to use - he hadn't been planning on raising a child afterall. Traveling across the country and through one of the three main humanoid populations, they were able to board an inland-bound vessel towards Bareyun. He constructed his new home where the river forked, and it was there that he was able to continue his research undisturbed. At the same time, they could send word for supplies to be shipped down river for themselves, solving the issue of running out of ways to entertain the young Kitsune. ~:About Her Species:~Kitsune, as a Furre breed, share almost all of the characteristics of a furre. Their hind feet are pawed, and they stand on their toes as opposed to the sole of the foot as with the non-intelligent animals. They have paw-like hands which work just as efficiently as the humanoid ones. Non-retractable claws are present on their feet and hands, though neither is of substance enough to cause intentional or unintentional harm. Their hind legs are typically well-muscled, with lighter body frames than most other types of furres. They have a deep chest – perfect for keeping up with normal breathing at a fast trot. Unlike humans, however, females do not have a differently defined chest area. Kitsune Furres do not typically have human-like fur around their heads, either. They are covered in fur, and their faces are very animalistic with a long snout and pointed ears positioned near the tops of their heads. They have a keen sense of smell and wonderful hearing – which can be to their detriment in crowded cities. Due to their smaller size in comparison to other furres and the ability to be quick on their feet, they are most commonly employed as couriers. Their agility can lead them towards a life of side-show acts or even races. Far from the most intimidating of their species, most consider them the easiest to get along with – if they are a little impartial to their sometimes joking manner and considerable talent at making things that aren’t theirs disappear. Age in Furres is sometimes the most difficult thing to determine, and the Kitsune are no exception to this policy. Kits - or cubs as they are sometimes called - are easily determined to an extent simply because of their height being around that of a human, and the elders are typically gray-muzzled. Teens and youths have a smaller stature than adults when male, but females tend to be about full grown in the human equivalent of their teens. The actual lifespan of Kitsune Furres is unknown, so only rough guesses can be made to equate them to human age. Some can claim to be double the age of human teens, and yet still act as if they are no more than just fresh out of kithood. As far as a culture is concerned, the Kistune Furre is a wandering type without any known town to call their own. They have no capital, and no government apart from the human institutions that they follow. If they aren’t couriers running from town to town, perhaps the garb of a gleeman – a type of traveling storyteller known for acrobatics – covers their fur. They are, however, very sparse in existence with never more than a handful per population of other sentients. It would seem that they are more comfortable outside of their own furs.

~:A Dragon's Tale:~ Name: Hakan Age: Hatchling Gender: Female Species: Fire Dragon Rank: Citizen Guardian: Vix Mythrylpaw Weight: Medium Physical Description: Crimson base coloration with deep blue, nearly navy, markings across wings. She also bears stripings in the same color, with her wing bases, tail tip, and nose dipped in the same blue. Her face spikes are just now forming at this stage in her life. Personality: Small and seemingly fragile, Hakan is very vocal at this stage in her life. She enjoys clinging to Vix's tunic and up on her shoulder, though Luffen insists that the young hatchling is going to fall off one of these days because of it. She's more timid about things than Vix, taking more time to think things over even at this young bit of her life it seems. ~:Name Analysis:~The name Hakan has many roots in human history. It meant 'Of the Fire' for Native Americans and 'emperor' or 'ruler' in Turkish. It is a Swedish and Old Norse form of the name Hakon, which meant 'high son'. Hakon was the name of seven kings of Norway. It is obvious that Hakan is an honorable name given to represent her ties to her breed of dragons. ~:About Her Species:~Considered the most common breed of dragons, Hakan's weight places her even more in the commonality. Despite these things, she considers herself very special and very unique and will not listen to anyone who says otherwise. Considered to be very talkative and shallow, fire dragons tend to be sociable with a lot of flashy colors. In short, they want to be the center of someone's life, and Hakan has certainly gained that much with Vix already.

~:Many Meetings:~ ~:Master Elwood Luffen - NPC:~ Age: Aged, probably beyond count Gender: Male Species: Human Physical Description: Luffen has a narrow, long gray beard, with piercing blue-gray eyes. He is of average height for a human male, and shows no sign of his apparent age in his physical condition beyond a few wrinkles around his eyes and some deeper lines on his forehead and the edges of his mouth. In his youth, he had dark hair and was most likely very attractive. Personality: Usually a little self-absorbed, and very easily attentive to his own studies, he can be snappish if disturbed at the wrong time. With that aside, he usually has a great sense of patience towards others. He does prefer to be alone, with exception of Vix's company at times. ~:About His Skills and Profession:~Mage Classification for Luffen Apprentice -> Novice -> Adept -> Journeyman -> High Calling or MasterLuffen considers himself a journeyman mage, though his skills far exceed that (but he doesn't brag, or display them at such level). Vix will refer to his High Calling at times, however, to his chagrin. She always refers to him as Master, as is typical for one in an apprenticeship. His specialty is in magic dealing with the earth's energies - plants, animals, and rocks - but he can manipulate water and fire to an adept's level, and wind at a simple novice level. ~:Ebon - Haisyn Fierra:~ Gender: Female Species: Storm Dragon Vix's Impressions: Vix was obviously overjoyed to be meeting a full grown dragon (or, as she said, 'a real dragon'). She might have talked off poor Ebon's ear though. She really looks forward to meeting her again and is overjoyed to know that she'll be bringing Pyre with her next time. Hakan's Impressions: The little fire dragon seemed unfazed at noticing another of her kind, but she was also probably cold and wet and had just been woken from her nap.

~:Many Crossings:~ ~:Shivoenn Southern Border, Luffen's Hut:~The approximate area that Luffen discovered Vix. She wasn't old enough at that time to remember in detail where she had been when he found her, let alone where she had come from. She does, however, remember Luffen one room hut in the borders. It's little more than a fond memory of happy days playnig around the house, with all the details missing. ~:Kingdom of Glades Cities:~Vix and Luffen traveled through the Kingdom's center cities from Shiovoenn's border to Bareyun's border in order to establish their new home. She was young at the time, but the humanoid cities were very impressive to her. It was there where she was able to see many of the species that Luffen had taught her about. Traveling there only served to increase her hunger for adventure and her want to know everything about, well, everything. ~:Bareyun Western Border:~Her home presently, Vix and Luffen live in the area where the river forks in the Eastern portion of the Kindgom of Glades. They're a good week's travel from Bareyun, but they're far enough out of the way of normal Glades travel to have their privacy. The forest in the area is great for Vix to explore and is also perfect for Luffen's own work with his earth magics - it offers him ample space and resources. ~:Luffen and Vix's Home:~A single-story building with a few oddly interlocking rooms. From the outside, the home deceives into believing it's incredibly small. The front door leads into the living room and opens to the kitchen counter. A small table that could seat four with only two wooden chairs finishes the picture. There's a small fireplace to the left for a cooking fire with a rug and a rocking chair in front of it, and a door to the far left that leads into Luffen's private study. He has his own personal fireplace in there, and one window that looks to the front yard. The walls of that room are lined in books and bookcases, as well as as few tables that are housing his current plant projects. Through a smaller door that most of the time blends into the study is Luffen's sparse bedroom that looks to be more like a closet. Back in the main room of the house, to the far right is the coat closet. Next to the kitchen counter is the back door that leads out to the clearing that Luffen and Vix offered to Ebon for spending the night. In the general right of the main room is a ladder that leads to an awkward loft that's more spacious than the outer appearance of the house would have one believe. There are two round windows - one facing the front and one face the back - that provide light at most times of the day. The half of the room farthest from the ladder is covered in straw, mats, and some blankets. There's evidence that it can also be fenced off to an extent to prevent the young dragon from wandering out and hurting herself at night. Vix's pallet is a multi-colored heap under one of the windows, with a small bedstand and a dresser across from it. She prizes the piece of glass fashioned between two turquoise holsters for her mirror that sits atop the dresser. ~:The City and Den Ruins:~

~:Treasure Chest:~ ~:Vix's Journal:~A thick leather-bound book with beautiful binding that Vix writes in. It is probably one of her most prized possessions, though few beyond herself have ever seen it and only her and Hakan have read from it. ~:Herb Pouch:~An ornate piece of cloth wrapped with leather twine and two copper bells. This piece of fabric is used to hold a number of the herbs that have already been crushed for use that Master Luffen has prepared for her. The purpose of the bells is to help to contain the magic that Luffen has used to seal off the different types of herbs from each other. When the pourch is wrapped up or undone, all the medicines remain seperate from each other and don't fall apart.

~:Journal - A Visit With the Past:~The woods at the borderlands had slowly faded into grasslands, and then trails had started to pop-up; old ruts from wagons and chopped grass from the crossing of horses. It had taken weeks of travel before they reached the first real road - little more than a well-beaten path of flattened grass and dirt. They'd been able to catch a ride for part of the way with a merchant's wagon, and once on the road they found it easier and easier to catch rides part of their way. It was in that way that they arrived in the town, on the back of someone else's wagon who had a job in the larger city. Vix couldn't help but gape, staring in every direction at once. The city was bigger than anything she'd ever imagined, and there were so many new sights, sounds, and smells to entertain her. Her nose twitched eagerly, ears twisting and turning in every direction at once. She was very small, then, only coming up to about Luffen's waist. Wearing an old light brown cloak about her shoulders, and her small leather pouch with a few coppers just in case, she was far from the most interesting sight in the town herself. Luffen, on the other hand, was rather unfazed by the large city and even seemed to be a little bored. As he began walking down the street, his cane safely tucked out of view to not draw attention, Vix was forced to scamper off to catch up or risk losing him in the crowd. The young Furre stuck close to her master, grabbing his unfurred hand a few times for her own fear of losing him. There were just so many people, and things! Vendors were on the sides of most streets, hawking off goods. Some people were even cooking things that she'd never seen before, which set off strong aromas that hung in the air. Aromas of things cooking that she didn't recognize even in their raw state. But it all smelled so good, and all the young fox was thinking of was trying everything at once. "Vix, close your mouth, you're drawing attention to yourself." Luffen's voice drifted to her, slightly annoyed and yet distracted at the same time. He was looking for something, or rather someplace. She clamped her bottom jaw closed with a distinct snap that turned a few human heads in disgust and slight fear. Vix's ears shifted down in embarassment for the odd looks she was receiving. "And keep your ears down. I told you, we don't want any attention on ourselves." Luffen had told her almost every day - more than that as they'd gotten closer - that once inside the town she was to keep her ears down and her nose out of things. That it was important to not draw attention because not everyone in the city would be exactly polite and nice like the traders that sometimes passed through. But it was all so exicting! A big city and lots of things to look at! Her eyes got a little bigger as they passed by a trio of large, armor-clad Furres with huge snouts and thick arms. One of them had an over-sized battle axe at his side, and they were all covered in thick, shaggy gray fur. Vix couldn't help but stare at the wolves as they passed, despite the odd and harsh looks they gave her in return. In fact, she'd been staring enough to fall behind Master Luffen. With a small yelp, she ran to catch up to him and grabbed his hand in her own unsettled fear. "I told you not to get lost." Even if he was chastising her, there was a gentle expression on his face of his understanding her fear and distraction. Luffen wouldn't openly admit things, or at least not around her. He knew too well how much he loved the little fox as his own child. He led her towards a vendor on the side of the street, where a skinny man was frying up some meat she had never seen before. Stopping near it, he looked down at her. Immediately Vix's ears rose and a bright smile slid onto her face. "Can we eat, really!" He nodded and chuckled, letting go of her hand so she wouldn't drag him to the side of the cart to peer over it alongside of her. "Hey! Gitcher nose outta that, dog." The vendor waved his metal spatula at her, a small smile on his face. She backed up as he had asked, ears slightly down, but couldn't suppress the grin on her own muzzle. Luffen handed off the coins to pay for the food, and the vendor passed a stick with the meat on it to her outstretched paw. Vix lit into the meat, forgetting how hot it was and reacting by waving her free paw over her burnt tongue. She took it a little more slowly then, admiring the spices to the meat and the way that it was juicy even though fried. She was so intent on her meal, that she almost Luffen in the crowd as she tagged behind him while eating. She caught up with him around a corner, and was completely stunned at what she saw. In a courtyard clearing to the left and up ahead, a huge scaled creature was on its hind legs towering above the crowd. No one was screaming or running away though, which perplexed the Kitsune greatly. She trotted up to Luffen, tugging on his sleeve. "Is... is that a dragon?" She'd read about them and seen drawings, but she'd never seen a living one before. Luffen nodded to her, smiling. "Yes, she is, and she's a very elegant fire dragon. Young, but she's competant in her abilities." Vix's ears flicked as she remembered that dragons were natural magic-wielders, like herself. Her ears pricked forward then, trying to imprint the image of the great sentient in her mind. It had huge black claws, and was dominantly red-scaled. Though it stood on its hind legs, it also had forearms much like her own. The long tail was out behind it for balance purposes, and the wings were a beautiful iridescent color. She was drug off by Luffen in a matter of moments, and the large figure was covered by the buildings in the city. Sighing at having to miss the opportunity to see and maybe even speak with a real dragon, Vix turned her attention to whay lay ahead of her. The city was slowly falling away into a port, and it was apparent Luffen had found what he had been looking for. He headed with purpose down the street and onto the dock, marching up to the side of a small vessel with sails and introducing himself as Elwood Luffen. The man he spoke with, human, obviously knew him from his name. Their conversation started plain enough, then Luffen was down to business about getting passage up the river with supplies. He had priorly worked it all out, as he'd told Vix, but he wanted to be sure that supplies would be delivered as he'd requested. With everything in order, he helped Vix into the sailboat and climbed in himself. Vix and Luffen were off to a new home, and the young fox was heading towards an even grander adventure than she had expected, but not that she'd imagined.

~:Journal - A Day To Remember, A Day To Forget:~ "Make sure you're back before sunset - I don't want you getting lost and those herbs must be dried before we can use them." Vix rolled her eyes as she shouldered the leather satchel that she used when she went out ito the forest on one of Luffen's requests. He always nagged like this, especially when she wanted most to hurry out the door. "And don't forget the fireweeds this time!" Luffen sighed and shook his head, the last part of his sentence being delivered to the back of the house door. Vix was scampering down the path just as fast as her two feet could carry her, eager to put distance between herself and the house. She didn't, after all, want Luffen chasing after her yelling again. It wasn't that she didn't want to listen to him, but he just went on and on and on sometimes! THe direction she chose for this day was north, as she had found some interesting ruins there the other day that she hadn't completely explored yet. The opportunity to do so while getting through her chores was simply too good to pass up. The hike through the woods was something else that she looked forward to besides the ruins. It wasn't that she enjoyed being alone necessarily, but wandering through the forest gave her time to think about her lessons and to practice. Practicing out here had its advantages - Luffen couldn't constantly monitor what she was doing all the way out here. He was the type to look after everything she did if given the chance. It wasn't that he would stop her or limit what she was doing, but it was annoying to have him correcting her all the time. It wasn't her fault she wasn't the fastest one to learn things - especially when it came to remembering the specifics on some spells. Left over right or right over left? This pronunciation or that one? Sometimes it just seemed far too difficult to her. She took her time heading towards the ruins, stopping to pick-up the things that she happened to pass by that Luffen had instructed her to gather. By now, she knew where every patch of most plants could be found in the area, and if she didn't know where they were for sure, then she knew their basic requirements to find them. There wasn't anything particularly of note for her to go after this morning, so for the most part she concentrated less on what she was doing and more on what she could be doing. Vix was a dreamer, plain as can be. And that little trait of hers had a habit of slipping into the worst situations possible. But at least here in the forest she didn't need to worry about botching an incantation or catching the kitchen on fire while she day dreamed about knights and huge cities and clans of dragons. Vix stopped and had her lunch under the shade of a winding, ancient tree with her tail tucked neatly by her side and her back resting against its bark. This specific area of the forest held a lot of older growth, and the trees in the area were the kind that even if you didn't have natural inclination towards any talent (of which Vix proclaimed to have plenty) you could almost hear them talking back and forth with time. Vix really enjoyed the quiet warmth emitted in the area, and the strong sense of comfort that rose from the knowing that these trees had seen more than anyone alive at that time, most likely. She most likely fell into a nap for a few moments before stirring herself into action again. With her bag lighter, her stomach heavier, and her collecting nearly done, she was more than anxious to see the traces of the ruins peeking creeping into the forest. A few pieces of large, oddly shaped rocks started to dot the area around her as she continued her travels before they could be identified as pieces of a larger structure that had long ago collapsed. Moss claimed parts of some of the ruins, while undergrowth crept into crevices for shelter. Vix picked up her pace, yellow tail swishing behind her with interest. Following the pieces of growing rock, some of which still had the odd bit of molding or reliefs, Vix slowly had the forest thin around her. Within another half mile, she was standing at the edge of a clearing that was being engulfed by the forest as years of freedom were allowing. Collapsed stone structures spread out in front of her for what seemed like a quarter of a mile in the most interesting peach and pearl colors. Hopping up onto a nearby ledge that jutted out from a column that was broken off about twenty feet over her head, she peered through the ruins as best as she could, searching for where she had had to stop the day before. She hadn't gotten into any of the really interesting things before daylight decided to die on her. Spying the remnants of what could have been a stone house, Vix hopped off the rock and headed in that direction. It was oddly quiet outside of the forest and its constant clatter of birdsong, yet the ruins didn't feel abandoned to her. Instead, the area felt more inviting than some parts of the forest she had explored, like it was desperate for something living to step inside of it again. She ran her paws across reliefs that could have hung high above her head on giant structures at one point in time as she passed by, peering inside the caves that were artificially created by slabs folding in on each other. She didn't intend to remove anything from the area, fearing more to disturb the memory of the place it once was than stirring Luffen's anger over the time he'd no doubt think she was wasting. She didn't intend to, but the ruins didn't give her a choice. ((Will continue later))
