so now i'm on 2 new meds along with my others, and don't think it helped me at

I was way worse in the Psych hospital, but in the long run, I think it helped me. I wouldn't have thought it at the time!

I hate how they think drugs makes things all better

They do for some people, so they're usually worth a try! Sometimes it takes a long time for them to make a difference or for them to get the right combination. And sometimes the side-effects are worse than the disease!

A lot of the hospitals offer a lot of medications because when funding is down, the staff gets cut. They may or may not have enough resources and personnel to offer psychological help beyond a few consultations and the meds.

I was also a lot worse while I was actually in the Psych Ward, but I don't regret it at all because I think it might have saved my life. I didn't go to the greatest hospital, and they put me on three meds at once, one of which screwed me up, but it helped me get better help once I got out. I also met some really great people in the hospital who helped me a lot.

in my experience it makes a difference to if its a specific pysch hospital or just the pysch ward in a bigger hospital..the wards tend to deal more with drug addiction then true mental illness and thier focus is short term stay and med complience..when i finally went to a proper facility i got alot of attention with constructive groups and counsilling

I've only been to a Psychiatric hospital once, and it was only for a few hours. I got sent tyhere for treatining to kill myself...On a piece of paper.....

Luckily, it helped me alot, as they set up Psychologist appointments, which helped me find oput I had the disorders I do.

There's only one drug I thought helped me, and that was Stratera. When is started taking it, my ADHD almosty completely disspeared.

That reminds me of my friend Nikki telling me that her mum took some tablets for hayfever, and they made her hallucinate! I think I'd rather be sneezy, personally! Nikki's mum decided the same thing.

But as Chaotic Fury said, some drugs really do help. A friend of mine takes stuff for ADHD, and you wouldn't think she had it when she takes them. She skipped them once, and was really hyperactive and kept wandering about fiddling with everything. O_o

My friend was in a hospital for four days from trying to kill herself while on drugs. She OD'd on xanax and slit her wrist. Now, she's not an unhappy person at all, she's just on drugs. They make you do some crazy stuff. She's still on drugs though...

Yeah, I agree. Also the location of the hospital seems to make a difference A big city hospital will strap you to a bed out in a hall with the drunks, while a suburban hospital will treat you to a couch in front of a fish tank.

THis all seems to remind me of a book i read actually my friend Roxxane said it was a movie too it's called "girl interupted". It's about her experience in a psych ward it was an interesting book to read.

Cool, we have a thread about movies depicting mental-illness here:

That girl had it pretty good in the movie. That hospital was way fancy compared to real psych wards.

I've been hospitalized three different times for an eating disorder, and the first hospital made me so much worse!!! I learned new tricks and my thinking became even more screwed up than it already was. However, my second hospital really helped my thinking and I came out ready to take on life.

Psych hospitals serve their purpose if you are at serious risk to yourself but in the whole they are not the answe- talking therapies and sometimes a mixture of drugs can help.
