"They are human only in the loosest sense of the term. They are more like my personal stash than real people." Vaarn replied to Junon, looking over the underground skyline. "Feel free to drink as much as you like. They have a nearly inexhaustable amount of blood."

Atra complied, going back for a second helping. After filling himself to his content, he turned to face Vaarn. "If they aren't human, what are they?" Vaarn turned to look at him. "I call them gresh." he replied, before turning to face the city once more. "Original." Atra rolled his eyes. "It means 'food'." he explained.

Menefer leaned against a collumn, his back to the rest of the party. He stared up at the twinkling lights above him. "Are you alright?" he said quietly to Veon.

Akakios turned away from the gresh, disgusted. He hated being surrounded by so many vampires, they had such morbid practices. However, his frown of disapproval quickly transformed into his infamous smile as a Xeol drifted down by him.

Veon nodded slowly, glancing back at the rest of the company. "For the most part yes..." he mumbled, still somewhat seething from the unconvenient and troubling ordeal they had just experienced.

Ju smirked, biting her pale bottom lip, the new blood coursing through her veins in satisfaction. Her eyes began to turn a deep red as she settled back, her desire substantically subsided.

" Welcome to the City of Shadows " A voice came from in front of them. " Ah, I see that you have brought back some new friends, my lords. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Mekl, the steward of the city. If you have any needs or wants, just bring it to my attention and I will see what I can do for you. " The speaker was a man of medium height, in black robes. His shoulder length hair was a silvery white color and his pale face framed his pure black eyes (profile here ) " please, follow me into the rest of the city, i'm sure you are all tired from your travels "

Atra smiled at Junon. "What do you say we explore more of this underground paradise?" He extended his arm and followed after Mekl.

Vaarn shook his head. "As much as I would like to, I have other matters that need attending. I will join you later." The shadows wrapped themselves around his tall, lanky form, and he vanished.

The shadows reformed inside Vaarn's own quarter of the city. He made his way through the twisting back streets, passing under dark arches, some of which served as bridges for passing foot traffic. He turned and casually made his way up a wall, then leaped through an open window of a large Gothic cathedral-type building, the stained glass the color of dried blood. He landed silently on the dark stone floor, black candles giving off an eerie light. He made his way over to a small door. Behind the door, amny small priests were running back and forth, or working at long tables. Beakers steamed and small bolts of lighting seemed to strike one table at the far end. A portly bald man made his wya over to Vaarn. "My liege." He bowed. Vaarn only stared at him. "Are they ready yet?" The man began to stumble over his words. "Well, I, uh, you see..." Vaarn bent from his tall hieght to look the man straight in the face. "I asked you a direct question Feyton. Are they ready yet?" Feyton took a deep breath, letting it out in a quick "No?" Vaarn stood up once more. "Why not? Feyton sighed. He might have a chance to get out of this with his life. "Well, you see sir, the thing is, since the Shadowba..." Vaarn cut him off with a look. Feyton's eyes grew large, having almost forgotten; the name of the demon hunting clan was not to be mentioned around the vampire prince. "Yes, since they have all been killed, finding a light healer with that much power has not been easy." Vaarn shook his head. "You are wrong. There is one left. She will give us what we need. Send someone who can pass for being benevolent. See what Hermant has in stock." Feyton swallowed. Hermant, better known as The Puppet Master, could control any number of creatures at one time, easily making them look like whatever he wished. Feyton quickly pulled one priest aside. "Fetch Hermant. Now!" The unlucky priest immediately ran off. Feyton turned to find Vaarn gone, and a single piece of paper lying on the ground. He opened it to find scrawling script reading:Tell him to meet me in Veol's quarter. Also, I know you've been stealing from me Feyton. Thieves are not to be tolerated. It was signed with Vaarn's seal, a small spider with a tin red X across it's back. The spider moved and bit Feyton's finger in a flash of movement. Instantly he became very pale, and a small piece of black flowed through his hand. It reached his veins, and began to creep up his arm, until it reached his eyes, filling them with nothingness. Then his heart which ceased to beat. Finally, it reached his brain, and the priest began to collapse, blowing away in a cloud of ash.

Ju smiled at Atra, nodding. "Yes, let us." She followed Mekl and Atra out of the room, leaving Menefer, Veon, and Akakios to their own devices.

"Farewell, Vaarn," Akakios said distractedly, his focus still on the little Xeol. "Farewell Ju and Atra." He pulled his attention away from the Xeol and to Menefer and Veon, "So......."

"So now there is the problem of what will happen with the Fire Nation. They seems to be causing more and more of a problem lately." Vaarn replied, now standing at the top of a tall pillar, watching the receding forms of Mekl, Junon, and Atra. "If Izuma happens to get wind of exactly where we are...let's just say Falga won't be happy." At saying Falga's name a flash of contempt flew across his face. He had little to no respect for the leader of Shadow Nation. It may have been that he despised all authority, but for some reason, every time Flaga opened his mouth, Vaarn wanted to close it; permantently. Instead he would always stop himself, saving his anger for the battlefield. "Menefer, now that you are awake, have your spies learned anything recently? Or are we still left with the insufficient information we have?"

Atra strolled along the dark streets, Junon nder his arm, no longer caring about Vaarn or the other generals. "This could mean a whole different life for us Junon. We may never have to worry about who is out to kill us. Now we are safe. We can safely lay down roots." He smiled at her, his yellow eyes glinting. "Raise a family."

"We must also disucuss the matter of troups," Veon added, running a hand through his mohawk, "When do we make our first strike? Junon and Atra's disappearance will certainly raise questions among the other nations, especially when they hear that we not only welcomed them, but their arrival was foretold to us. I want to make sure we have the first punch in this fight, but also the last..."

Ju's eyes flashed a dark honey color, and she averted her gaze, her face becoming pale in its strain to blush. "Are you sure Atra?" Ju whispered, worry straining her voice for the first time. "...I love you...." She paused, knowing the impact that would have, then continued, "...but, do you think we should contemplate that so early? And not to mention I'll be unable to fight" She looked up at him. "I will not burden you with protecting me..."

"Your Grace must forgive me..." Menefer adressed Vaarn formaly as he always had while in a public place. "..But you see, I have not yet had time to consult with my subordinates. If it is possible, I ask that your highness grant me but a short amount of time to recover before I adress the imporant matters of state, so that I may give them my full and undivided attention." He spoke respectfully, but he knew (as did Vaarn) that it was no request, even the vampire prince could not sway the demon-cat.

Vaarn nodded, keeping up the public image that Menefer and he haad created. He (begrudingly) owed Menefer far more than he allowed him, and he knew that when it came down to the wire, the demon-cat was more of a wild card than a subordinate. "Yes Menefer, that would probably be best. We can not run a Nation when the links of the chain of command are weakened." He leaped from the top of the pillar to land silently on the hard floor, his boots not making a sound. "You are right Veon. If they learn how we get our information, there could be major backlash. We must make sure that the other Nations don't learn about...her."

"Ju, you mean, or the hunter that follows with Atra's previous host?" Veon asked. "You always seem to command the audience with your riddles."

A rare smile almost began to form across vaarn's face. "No, both of them are well known to the other Nation's. It seems that certain knowledge should be saved for another time. However, as for the hunter with Crow," the name was spit out like a poison, "She can serve a far more useful purpose. And, if my spies are not incorrect, we shall soon find a very unlikely ally headed our way." He refused to say more on the subject, instead turning to once again face his quarter of the city; waiting.

Atra nodded. "It may not ahppen for a while Junon, but I am sure in my convictions. I love you now more then ever before. And I cannot imagine a more perfect place to raise our child." He smiled benevolently, but his intial intentions still held strong. His child would be raised here, not because it was safe, but because of the vast knowledge it could obtain so that it could destroy the world.
