Summer Art ContestHello, my dear Gaians!
Due to the fact that there were no entries submitted for May's contest and that this guild's still somewhat strugling to form an identity of its own, I've decided to skip forward to the month of June and issue a new contest. This time, the format will be slightly different as there will be different categories, so that everyone has a chance to participate. I hope this will be an opportunity to have some fun, exercise the phalanges and, kriff... while we're at it, why not make some gold? *g*
Without further ado, here are the general guidelines for this contest.
I hope that you will all participate and have fun!RulesWho can participate?Everyone. Since we're now a public guild, participants are not required to be Lit Mag members, though you can expect a sneaky invitation headed in the general direction of your PM box after your submission is accepted. *cackles* What is the duration of this contest?To give everyone the time to prepare and polish their submissions, this contest will take place throughout the months of June, July and August. Submissions will be accepted up to August 5th. (Please note that this date may change, since I don't know yet what my summer vacations is going to be like. If something comes up, the deadline will be extended, never shortened!) What are the categories?"Harmony divine smooths her charming tones" - for pictures in both digital and traditional medias, comic pages, avatar art, doodles, etc.
"A prayer elaborately penned" - for short stories, poems, novels, scripts, song lyrics... anything created through words.
For further information concerning the categories, please refer to the following posts, and if that still doesn't answer your question, feel free to post it in this thread. How are the winners chosen?There will be a guild-wide poll to select the winners. For each category, each person votes for a winner and a runner-up, then at the end of August the votes are tallied. If there are ties, the prizes will be split amongst the works, unless the tie is greater than three-way. In that case, I will chose the winner myself, since I am the one giving out the prizes. How to submit?Submissions for all categories are to be sent to me by PM, using the form that follows. Please note that the link provided must be a link to a thread in this guild. Participants are not only allowed but encouraged to seek feedback by fellow guild members and edit their entries as many times as they like before submitting them to the contest.

Participants are allowed to submit multiple entries, to multiple categories. That's all well and good, but what are the kriffin' prizes?The first places to each category will receive 1500g (do your best to win both!). Second places will receive 750g and if the entries are plentiful there will also be a third place award of 300g.
In addition to that, each category will have an "Extra challenge!", where you can score an extra 200g. The winners of these awards will be selected exclusively by me.
Want more? A 500g award will be given to the guild's top poster during the period up to the contest's deadline. That's free gold, my friends! You'll find a reference screenshot of our members list and their number of posts prior to the contest's beginning here.
If you feel these prizes are too low, let me know what you think would be fair, and I'll take it in consideration. I have no experience in putting something like this together... ^^' Remember, the deadline is August 5th so start working on your entries!

In this category, you may submit pictures both made by hand and computer-assisted. Comics, avatar art, banners and fan-inspired works are also accepted.
Extra challenge! Draw a small comic with a theme of your choosing or design a banner for the Lit Mag! Best entry will win 200g, regardless of the overall category winner.Entries:- Seeing quadruple, by duello

Yeah, me too... but it looks like everyone's having too much fun sunbathing and swimming in the ocean to think of writing or drawing, because my inbox is empty so far... *sigh* Looks like the only award I'll be giving out is the "top poster" one. smile
OT: Your cat is so cute!!! He (she?) looks like he's at that stage where they just want to play and play and end up wrecking half the house in their mad dashes... heart

Sorry about the double post, but the first six entries have just come in!! Five of them are from our very tallented duello, and the sixth one is mine, just to break up the monopoly - go check them out and show your support for your favourites!
Remember, the deadline is Friday, 10 August and entries must be submitted via PM! There are practically no limitations to what can enter the contest, so give yourself a chance and send in your works too! ^^
EDIT: Just thought I'd make a pre-count of everyone's posts for the side-award. So far, PyroAurah's on the lead with 39 posts, then moi-même with 32, and Sgt_Sandwich1 with 31. duello's in fourth with 17 and the rest have less than 10. The final count will be made on 23:59 of 10/Aug.

Lol, I was surprised there were so many posts too! Then again, this count spanned two months so maybe I shouldn't have been...
Now, I have some explaining to do. I said in the first post that the deadline was August 5. This was the original plan, but on my last post it inexplicably changed to August 10. It was a mistake! I have a red circle on my calendar around the 10th and at the time I wrote that last post I assumed it referred to this contest, but as I now realize, it doesn't. Anyway, since I said it was the 10th once, now it will have to stand I guess...
My apologies to duello, who was so punctual in his submission and probably stared at the screen funny when I inadvertedly extended the deadline... ^^'
Now I'm just slightly worried with what *is* meant to happen this friday... o0

Hello again! Just letting you know that the entry-submission phase for this contest will be over within the next two hours. I might not be online at that time to start the voting and add any eventual last-minute submissions, because Gaia's new layout is doing horrors to the poor computer I'm using at the moment. If not, I'll get around to it as soon as permitted.

Made it! I hereby declare this contest closed. ^^
I'm disappointed to see that duello was the only one to participate, other than myself, but I don't want to call this contest a failure. Whether or not it was because of its side-award to the top poster, the guild seems to have awakened from its slumber, which is an excellent thing. And if anything, I gained some experience on how to organize something like this. Hopefully, next one will go better.
So, here are the results:
Top poster:
The count was surprisingly high for several people, but it's PyroAurah who takes the gold, with a difference of nearly 20 posts to the second runner. Congrats!
Writing contest:
1st and 2nd place automatically go to duello - congrats! =)
There were no contestants for the "extra challenge", so no award will be given out.
Graphic arts contest:
Voting is now open to elect the winners!
Again, no one took up the "extra challenge", so no extra award.
Since it would be ridiculous to hold such an elaborate voting procedure as the one described on the first post for only three entries, I'm changing the rules. Guild members will have until next thursday to vote on their favourite entry on this thread's poll. If there is no clear winner by then, the prize gold will be split equally between duello and myself.
Now... go vote, if you haven't already! And afterwards, don't forget to check out the Guild Banner contest currently being hosted by our Captain!
