Going to start doing these so I won't waste time doing them later...
The Setting
Imagine a city bathed in the monochromatic tints and shades of gray and blue, a somber city with only swords of pale daylight cutting through the monotony.
Imagine a city that slumbers, housing within it the manifestations of the crimes of humanity. Imagine a city of isolation where loneliness and illusory individuality reign, where people go about their life, ignorant to the outside world. Imagine a utopia.
Some twenty years ago, a material was discovered that was neither entirely metallic nor entirely biological. Research on it came to a head four years after - and it was then it was properly used.
A small group of saboteurs massacred the entire lead research team, and by sheer chance let the material contaminate the corpses. The material actually resurrected them - not as humans, but as the manifestations of their very souls.
Some never had the mental fortitude to come back to the living, thus remaining as monstrosities. Others were lucky or simply that headstrong, and reverted back to their former selves, albeit with the trauma of a near-death experience. Others were not as fortunate, and came back as a mere shadow of their earlier personalities.
The variances of the material were dubbed as Soul Parasites.
The ones who remained monsters were promptly subdued and shipped off to an artificially-constructed island to be left in lethargy. Further experiments - deemed failures - involving the Parasites were also exiled here.
Later, due to the world's overpopulation, a city was allowed to be built on this island. A military base sits just off the coast, and it is this base that held house to the original hosts being killed and later afflicted with the Parasites.
Those who serve as host to the Parasites are generally much harder to kill than regular humans, as they are constantly self-regenerating. They are also apparently immune to most bacterial and viral diseases, or at least don't suffer from symptoms quite as long. The hosts may also experience enhanced senses.
It takes several fatal injuries to actually 'kill' a host; after a period of time, the Parasite will then warp and twist the host's body into the personification of his or her inner self. Then, again after a period of time, the Parasite will restore the host to his or her human appearance. It appears that the monster retains the original personality; it's only the initial shock and transformation upon death that requires the mental tenacity to remain the same.
The longterm effects of Soul Parasites are currently unknown.
The city where these events take place is fairly temperamental in terms of weather, often suffering from downpours and small-scale hurricanes. It is fairly humid and the island endures cool temperatures year-round, with it being especially cold during winter.
