well tonight is a special journal to talk about the older anime and manga we have to thank for this great industry today

Astro Boy: If you havnt heard of this than thats pretty bad. Now im not saying that this was ever the best anime but it was the first. and for that alone it deserves merit. The manga started all the way back in 1952 with the anime coming in at 1963

Tomorrow's Joe(or Ashita no Joe): What an amazing anime this was merely a generation after astro boy. Now this one may need an intruduction Tomorrow's Joe is a boxing manga/anime with the main charcter joe yabuki. Joe is a orphaned child who runs away only to meet a former boxing trainer who he would soon train with to start his own boxing career. he rizes to fame beating opponent after opponent in beautfully presented boxing matches. You 'can get a great feel for the charcters and this anime leaves a lasting impression for sure. One of the charcters Tohru Rikiishi even got a REAL LIFE FUNERAL after a tragic death between an offical match with him and joe. This funeral was a massive gathering of 700 people dresssed in black as the marched down the streets with real buddisht preist's present in a full size boxing ring. I s**t you not this was all for an anime charcter who wasnt even the main character i belive there was even an aniversery. That just shows you the power of this anime unfortunatly it will probly never come to the states so all i can say to do really is check out fan subs but if this ever did come to the states i would buy it so fast.

Fist of the North Star(Hokuto No Ken): possibly one of the best older shounen jump anime/manga out there that has been said to influence a lot of anime and manga to come later. im to lazy so heres the full description from wikipedia lol. "The prologue of Fist of the North Star informs us that the world was engaged in a global nuclear war in the year 199X. After the war, the earth's surface became devoid of vegetation, the seas evaporated and civilization was thrown into chaos, turning everyday life into a battle for supplies of uncontaminated food and water, where the strong survive by preying on the weak. However, one man vows to make a difference. Kenshiro is the successor of the art of Hokuto Shinken, a deadly 1,800 year-old assassination style that is only passed down from one master to a chosen son. Kenshiro uses his skills and knowledge to protect the innocent from the bloodthirsty gangs that threaten their survival. Throughout the course of the series, Kenshiro meets several allies and rivals, most of whom are also trained in various martial arts styles." OK back to me here well this series has spwane numerous anime manga remakes ovas video games you name it. For an old anime it holds up suprisingly well.

Vampire hunter D: well ive watched the old vhs tape of the dub(via my brother) the anime movie was ok i mean to be quite honest its age shows a little to much but the later movie released in 2001 i belive was just great.

Akira: Another series that really needs no introduction. People will tell you that this is the classic of all classic's i may not agree with them. for what its worth it is extremley good thought. I saw the original japenese voiced version with the subs which is just fine by me the art direction philosihpy story and hidden meaing behind it were just all so great.(if you havent seen this i strongly recomend you do)

Ghost in the shell: No not stand alone complex you rtard the original movie that spwaned the anime sequal. Now its a very hard anime to understand and me beingvery young and seeing it didnt really help. Althought when i was a kid i thought it was great even then. Its another anime that you really just have to watch.

Dragon ball (and Z): now the original dragon ball started a hit series of action i mean back then this stuff was the s**t. Now a days even bragon ball z is STILL on tv with good reason its fricken sweet man. I dont have much to say here becuase for the most part it reallly needs no introduction. What i will say is this we have DBZ to thank for all the great modern anime and manga we have to day in the states(shounen manga and anime i mean).

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure(which is actualy orlder than DBZ): now i no your thinking not this again but you really cant undermine its greatness. bunches of mangeka's admit to being fans of it with good reason. Its at 92 volumes still going i wont even say how amazing that is do your self a favor look it up.

well thats it i hope you enjoyed this breif lesson in history and rember there are alot of classics that are unaccounted for on this list(009, baki the grappler, Macross, gigantor, giant robo..etc) but i didnt wanna be up all night.
