Chapter One
Change
The wind blew slow, a chill residing in the air. The sound of light rain was heard as an alarm clock went off. A boy, the looks of about fifteen maybe sixteen awoke, slamming the clock to the wall. He wiped a hand over his face, whispering"Waking up is always a pain". He sighed lightly as he stood up, walking into the bathroom. After a few moments he emerged, wearing what looked to be a black shirt with a skull dagger on it, and a pair of jeans with a green dragon design going down the sides. As he walked down the stair his long green hair flipped over his eyes, making him unable to see momentarly. When it did, he tripped and his head fell on something soft.
A young girl, about fifteen stared down at him. His head had landed between her breasts, and she was blushing mad red. Suddenly she punched his head, knocking him to the floor. She cracked her nuckles lightly, speaking the words"Brother, how many times do I have to tell you to cut your hair?!" He laughed lightly, slowly standing. As he dusted himself off he looked to her with his bright green eyes, blinking"Well, I would say this is the thousandth time, or so. Perhaps I will go cut it?" She sighed, clinching her fist as she picked up the basket of clothes she was carrying"Just get it done already!". She hurried up the stairs, heading towards the bathroom. He sighed and turned around, sliding his hands into his pockets as he walked to the end of the steps, staring towards the kitchen he whispered"Hm, wonder who's cooking?"
As he walked in another girl became apparent, staring over her shoulder. Her long blonde hair the same as his sister, but she was wearing an apron. She shook her head, sighing"How many times do I have to tell you not to upset your sister?". He scuffed, staring to her"Well how many times do I have to tell you to stop acting like my mother?!". She laughed a bit, turning back to her cooking as the other girl walked down. When she entered the room her long hair became apparent, but it was now red. She stared to her brother, whispering"Why is she here?". He shook his head, whispering back"To cook apparently.".
She gave him a pretty hard punch to the head, whispering"I know that you dofus, but what I mean is how did she get in?!". He blinked, laughing nervously after recovering from the punch"Well um, I kinda gave her the spare key.". She stared up at him, narrowing her eyes"Moron". He blinked"Hey, what did I do?!". They stuck out their tongues, whispering"You were born.". He sighed, standing up as he made his way to the downstairs bathroom. He walked in slowly, taking the clippers to his hair. When he exited moments later his hair was much shorter, his eyes clearly visable along with the scar on his left eye.
As he looked at the small silver watch on his wrist he sighed, walking back into the room. When he did both the girls were sitting, a plate of bacon and french toast where he was sitting. He laughed lightly, sitting down. As he took a bite he smiled, whispering"You always were a good cook, Jessie". The blonde haired girl blushed lightly as she whispered"Well that's what you get, when you have a job!". He laughed some more, looking up"Well when you have to take care of your little sister, and a huge house by yourself, I dare you to find time for a job.". The red haired girl raised a finger"Hey, I'm not that much trouble!".
The other two laughed, speaking at the same time"Then what are you?!". She blushed nervously as she put her plate away, looking down to the sink. He then stood up, sitting his plate in the sink as he walked into the hallway. He slipped on a pair of sneakers, as he opened the door part way"I'll be back later, take care of her will ya Jess?". Jessica looked up, having still been eating. She nodded her head, whispering"Just make sure to come back this time.".
He stared before walking out, closing the door behind him slowly. He slid the key into his pocket, walking to the garage. He slid out a small device, pushing a button as the door opened. He slid into his car, closing the door. He turned it on slowly as he drove out, the garage door closing behind him. Once getting onto the road he sighed"Maybe I'll find something good today" He then looked at a sign to the left which read 'House for sale, 20 miles east, 30 miles to the north'. He blinked and then turned to the east, smiling"Well looks like I got lucky."
An hour later he pulled up into the woods, after a few minutes of driving an old mansion became visable. He blinked as he pulled into the driveway, stepping out. A man in butler's clothing came out to great him"Goday' sir, how may I help you?" He blinked, bowing slightly"Well, I heard this place was for sale?" The man laughed"You're right that it is, but no one has ever been able to live in this house." He blinked a bit, then asked"Why is that?".
The man turned to the house, sighing"It's some folk legend, people say it's haunted." He blinked even more, asking again"How could that be possible?" The man laughed nervously"Well..because a child about your age died here over fifty years ago, but it wasn't ordinary. He lived alone, except for his girlfriend who came to visit frequently. I was his butler of course, so I got to view all sides of the master. Anyway, one day the young lady stopped coming. I went to ask why, and that's when I found the master, dead."
He gasped, wondering before he asked"W-what happened to him?" He sighed, wiping the hair out of his eyes"He was found with a Japanese katana stabbed straight through his heart." He then blinked"But I thought you said he lived alone?". The man nodded"He did, that's why his killer is unknown to this very day. The master left this to me, but I can't bear to live here any longer." He nodded, smiling lightly"Well, I've never really believed in haunted houses, so I'll take it.".
The man blinked, about falling back"R-really? Thank you so much sir!" The man handed him the key, but as he went to walk off he then turned. He blinked"Oh, yes I forgot the money.". The man shook his head"No, I wanted to give you this.". He handed him a rather large black book, strapped up with the symbol of a green dragon. It glowed in the light as the man handed him the key"Never, and I repeat never unlock this book unless you're in in great trouble."
He sighed, turning to the man"Sir, why wo-". He stopped in mid sentence, having noticed the man gone. He shrugged, returning to his car as he drove off back to his home. He pulled into the driveway, jumping out as he headed inside. He blinked when seeing them still at the table, when walking in the grin on his face was visable. Jessica looked up, blinking"Hm, what happened?". His sister then looked up"Ray?" He laughed nervously"Well..we're moving"
Jessica looked down"Oh..". Hannah blinked, smiling"YES!!". She got up dancing, but then Ray looked to Jessica"What's wrong, aren't you happy?" Jessica shook her head"No, no i'm glad you finally found a new place, it's just..". She stood slowly, walking out of the room. Ray followed her, tapping her shoulder lightly"Jessica?". Jessica suddenly turned, throwing her arms around him she whispered"Don't go..". Ray slid his arms around her softly, looking down to her"Jess..you know we can't stay here.".
She sighed"I know, I just.." He then put a finger on her lips, whispering"I wasn't planning on leaving you here". Her eyes lit up, tearing a bit"Really?" He smiled, nodding lightly"I can't leave my best friend here, especially not alone!" She layed her head on his chest, crying lightly"Oh Ray..". Hannah then walked in, blinking"Um..i'll just um.." She turned to go, but Ray laughed"It's not what you think". Hannah turned, raising a finger"What do you mean? I wasn't thinking like that! How do you know what I was thinking?!"
He blinked"Um..I don't?" She laughed, sticking out her tongue"HAH, I got you!" Jessica laughed lightly, finally able to stop crying"What a family you are". They both looked to her, blinking"What do you mean?" She laughed a little more"Nothing, nevermind." Ray then blinked"Um, you should probably go pack." Jessica then laughed nervously"Oh yea, you're right. Well I'll meet you back here lets say, five?" Hannah nodded, poking her"Don't be late!"
Jessica laughed, opening the door"You know I wouldn't miss it!" Ray then smiled, having let her go as he headed up the stairs. Jessica walked to her house as she wiped a few more tears away"Damnit girl..keep your emotions to yourself." Hannah blinked as she went ahead and just sat in the car, waiting. Ray set a key on the neighbors door step before sitting his bag in the trunk, sitting in the car with Hannah. As Jessica came up she waved"See? I'm early!"
Both Jessica and Hannah laughed as they stuck out their tongues. Hannah switched to sitting behind the passenger's seat, pointing to Jessica"I'll let you two love birds sit together!" Jessica blushed, laughing"We are not!" Ray nodded, smiling"Nope, not in a million years. As Jessica sat all she thought was 'I only wish..'. Ray then started the car, driving out of the driveway.
