Listen to my story...
Well I think my profile describes me fairly well. Probably just going to post the daily grind of things. Also some stories I've written or well be writing.
Okay, I wrote this a long time ago. I think it was started over a year ago. I got the idea on my way to Momocon. I haven't come up with a name for it yet, so for now I'm calling it for the princess. (yes for those that are familiar it is a SM song.) Once again unedited.

Anyway, suggestions comments questions please let me know. There is more this is just the introduction. It's rough and unedited.

The escort moved at a slow, leisurely pace on the dirt path, with the sun's rays shining through the canopy of the trees above. The lightly armored escort in their royal blue tunics and silver armor gleaming with pride, surrounded the lavishly decorated carriage. The carriages displayed the silver attacking eagle on a royal blue background, the symbol of Queen Serenity of Zefielia. All were in good spirit, even the horses stood tall and proud, all dressed up for the journey to visit the family of the queen in Dils. The escort made little noise, and disturbed nothing in their passing, some light chatter came from different parts of the column.

A thunderous roar suddenly broke the afternoon peace, the two at the head of the column fell off their horses with arrows deep in their hearts. More arrows rained down at the surprised escort as men clad in black leather tunics and heavy shields emerged from both sides of the path with broadswords in hand.

The column of escort formed two dense defensive lines around the carriage, and made ready for the oncoming enemy. Queen Serenity looked out the carriage in time to see two men getting cut down the center by her skillful escort, she had hand picked everyone of them. She put her two ladies on the floor of her carriage and then turned to open a hidden compartment in her carriage to pull out a short bow and a quill of silver tipped arrows. She moved to the window, took aim and left fly the arrow, which found it's mark dead center of the enemy soldiers forehead, he was dead before he hit the ground. Moments later, she spotted a group of horsemen at the top of the hill charging down into the battle. She immediately aimed and fired at them, to everyone's surprise the new comers started cutting down the foot soldiers already in the fight. They attacked both her carriage and the unidentified soldiers.

It soon became a massive three way battle neither factor knew who the other was, save for the carriage that belonged to the queen.

Allene had stopped his men at the edge of the forest to survey the battle, it was a total mess. Black clad foot soldiers fought both the Zefielia escort and the menacing looking horsemen, and the menacing looking horsemen attacking both the foot soldiers and the escort.

"We ride in, focus on the riders. Kay your group reinforce the escort make sure the queen is safe?"

He needed no confirmation from his troops before he kicked his horse and charged into the battle. He drew his sword and caught the first enemy from behind and unaware. His horse violently trampled over a foot soldier and he looked up in time to dodge a falling sword aimed at him. He parried the next attack and with a quick flick of his wrist put his sword through the stomach of his attacker. He sliced the next guy in half and looked around, the nine guys in his group should be able to take care of this, they've all been through many hard battles, and this was no different.

Kay and his group had taken to foot and was cutting a path through the battle towards the carriage, his two short spears held fast, one in each hand. A guy with a spear brought it high over his head, Kay neatly stepped out of the way gave the guy a new belly button, and moved on. They soon reached the carriage and made a tight defensive circle.

Queen Serenity had already claimed twenty some of the bodies on the ground, with arrows in them. She'd drew her long sword and stepped out of the carriage, to join the men in combat, for she could best the best of them.

Kay saw her over his shoulder, "My queen please retreat back to the safety of your carriage, we can handle this?"
Before Kay could finished speaking, Queen Serenity had stepped forward to stop a sword before Kay's neck became real familiar with it's edge. Kay turned his attention back to the battle and argued no more, there was no point in arguing with the queen.

Queen Serenity, took a step back from a charging soldier and blocked high, gave her sword a swift twist and the soldier lost possession of his weapon and fell to his knees. She gave him a powerful kick into his chest before slicing out his windpipe. She turned, her sword up at the ready, then brought it down fast and hard to parry the incoming sword, she turned and drove the hilt of her sword into the back of the off balanced savage.

Soon after the initial attack the battlefield was littered with bodies and master-less horses. Smaller engagements still sounded in certain areas, but the area immediately surrounding the carriage was safe. The queen had regrouped her escort along with Kay's men, around the carriage, and they were soon joined by Allene and his men.

Allene dismounted and bowed to the queen and stepped forward, "Please my queen. Return to your carriage. We must leave this place immediately?"

Queen Serenity nodded to Allene and reached for the extended hand to help her into the carriage. Just as she was on the steps a loud war cry came from the area in front and a massive group of what seemed to be a hundred or so foot soldiers came charging out. Serenity quickly jumped out of the carriage and turned to one of her escort.

"My horse, now! We must retreat,?" Serenity yelled.

Two riders rode in at full speed from the trail they'd just traveled, covered in blood, sword in hand.

"Allene! Allene! Riders coming in fast from behind! At least a couple dozen, we took about fifteen of them?"

Allene looked at the two men, "Norm??"

"He didn't make it, arrow caught him in the chest early on?"

"Allene you and your men, take the riders. My escort and I will take the foot soldiers?"

"My queen please be reasonable. We'll hold them off while you retreat?"

"No. I'm fighting,?" she then turned to her escort, "My eagle?"

She stroked the head of her eagle, "Arnout, fly, leave this place at once?"

Arnout opened his wings and took flight, he circled the carriage once, as the queen turned to face the battle, then he was clear of the tree tops and out of site. The clatter and cries of battle soon faded behind him as he flew east back to the castle.

Princess Katherine stood tall in her slender white dress that showed off her curves and sleek silver hair over her shoulder swaying slightly in the cool breeze. It was a beautiful fall afternoon, she gave a light whistle and reached her hand out just in time for Arnout to land. It was spring earlier this year that Arnout had flown back from the west, and the search for Katherine's mother was still underway. The king's men had found no trace of whether she was dead, her carriage and the bodies of the fallen escort were found where the battle had been, but there was no sign of her or the bodies of the Cahir family.

Katherine snapped back into reality when she heard the calling of a bird flying overhead. She sent Arnout flying after it, in the same field some distance away were two others stood with their hunting birds. Shiris with a her elegant falcon, Parcika, and Pirotess with her exquisite hawk, Gauvain. Katherine had lost the last round to Pirotess, and was determined to win this one.

Arnout picked up the tail of the bird and closed in to snatch it, Parcika blind sited him and pecked him on the wing, which knocked him into Gauvain, they clawed at each other a moment before they got untangled. Arnout rapidly gained more altitude and stayed above and behind Parcika, Gauvain came in kicking at Parcika. Arnout swooped down and snatched the bird with his talons while the other two were still fighting and returned to Katherine's waiting hand after dropping the bird at her feet.
