Candlemas is a SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) event. Rein fair for people who really are into it.

At Candlemas it is a display for SCA members only who are interested in Art, Crafts, Dancing, and History.

I took part in several dance lessons and only 1 actual court dance >.<

The fun part was at the end though. Everyone is at there tables feasting and talking merrily to each other. My mother wishes to leave because she is tired so I agree. Before I leave I want to say good bye to a friend.

I find her with her man at the other table across the hall. I sneak behind her and blow softly on her ear. She knows it me cause I just do that to girls if I have them by surprise. I tell her I am leaving and she stands up and hugs me then returns to sitting. One of her friends starts talking to me. Standing beside Mag (nickname of this girl I came to say bye to) I placed my hand on her shoulder closed to where her man sits. While I am talking to her friend I let my hand play with her neck, she doesn't mind.
I restate my leaving and lean forward to whisper bye to Mag but on the other side of her head so her man couldn't see what I was doing.

He stood up so fast he threw his chair back "How dare you Patrick, touching Mag in front of me." Mag is getting worried about where this might lead. At this moment the whole hall went quite and everyone was looking at us. Some men were on there way if something was to happen
Me: "What did I do? Mag is fine with me being close and always have."
John (I think is his name): "You kissed her! Mag is mine!"
Me: "Kissed? I did no such thing but I wouldn't mind."
(Guards are now right beside us both but not interfering.)
John: "Who do you think you are?!"
Me: "Well I am Patrick and my SCA name is undecided, but that matters little."
John: "Alright, I challenge you Patrick. To a duel!"
Me: "Now you know that's not fair. I can't fight with my condition."
(Everyone glares at him for that cause I am the sick baby of the whole community)
Me: "I will accept your challenge, but I choose."
John: "Go ahead it doesn't matter."
Me: "Lets see who can win over Mag."
(The whole Hall busted out in a roar "DO IT! DO IT!" this was mixed with laughing, soft conversations, and who knows what else.)

He accepted and the Royal Court aloud us to take the front of the Hall (BTW everything is by candle light so it looks really cool).

A chair was presented for Mag to sit in the middle of the previously danced area. She took her seat and it was up to the two guys to woo her.

I had to go first.
Using the crowd as an audience and Mag as my target I spoke aloud for everyone to her. I kind of went on little things about she was the only girl of all the SCA fighters who took interest in me. Who helped me with my shirt making (which was what I was wearing) and who I spent much time with at fighter practice. Also to pull the heart strings for the rest of the hall I told about my heart being 3 times as big as normal but I said "Now I understand why my heart is so big. It has been filled with the love I have for you. Bottled up; hard to contain, so it grew and grew until I couldn't bare it no longer. Mag I love you."
(TOTALLY!!!!! Bullshited that out of my a**, the "I love her" part and she knows it)
The Hall went into a cheering roar of excitement.
Next was John and he went on about how the meet and a couple of sweet things, but here is the kicker. I am a public speaker, but he isn't that good at it.

So the Baron and Baroness (the rulers of our land) asked Mag to announce who won her heart. She of course choose John cause they are dating and been dating for a year plus, I think. The whole Hall started yelling and Booing and cheered my name, saying I should have one.
