I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and deer fleeing. I groaned as I rose from my position on the forest floor. I stretched and I heard my back crack. A lot. I smiled in satisfaction. Then I realized. I ran away from home, Lynn’s probably worried— But then again, she might not… That was right. The events that lead to yesterday started playing slowly in my head. I grew angry and I rose from my seat on the forest floor. I clutched my chest where my heart was. It hurt. The pain was too much. I leaned against the tree for support. What’s this…feeling…? I think. I felt light headed for a moment, and then I shook my head back and forth to get the feeling out of my head. I tried to think about something else. I looked around at my surroundings. Well for one, I’m in the woods. I grunt and start running up a huge oak tree. Passing the small branches and hopping up on the big ones, only to go higher. Once I reach the top I look around. I could see everything from up here. I looked around and all I saw was trees. Trees. And oh what fun. More trees. Until I spot a small house up a few kilometers away. Curious if anybody lives there, I decided to keep hopping through the trees to the cottage. I got to the front of the house and stared. It had a cozy appeal to it. Almost welcoming. I go to open the door, then I heard an; “I’ll be there in a moment.” The door soon opens to reveal a woman in her thirties. She has light red hair and dark grey eyes. She smiles down at me. I look back at her in confusion. Why was she smiling at me?
“Come inside please, Arron.” I jumped back. “How do you—?” She raised her hand in front of my face. “It will all be explained in good time. Come. I have tea bruin.” She walked inside. I slowly, but reassuringly walked into the small cottage. I looked at the interior. It was small, one floor house, with a small kitchen and a living room. Simple T.V. and simple lifestyle. The backroom was closed and locked, from the look of the padlock on it. I stared at it, wondering what was inside. “It’s private. Maybe if I can trust you, you may look.” I looked over at the woman’s hands that placed a small cup of green tea in front of me. I looked up at her. “How did you know…?” She smiled and sat down in the chair across the small table and looked at me. “Can you keep a secret…?” I was about to get up out of my seat and leave, but she just laughed. “No I’m not a *****. I’m a vampire, just like you.” I froze. “Sh…Show me then…what can you do?” She laughed again. Her face sparkling in excitement. “I am showing you one of my abilities. My other ones are to do this.” In amazement I watched, she could bend fire into her own form. Any form that she pleased. First it was a dog, then a small butterfly, then last, herself. She also did a whole bunch of things. I stared in awe at her. I couldn’t be able to do that. Not in a million years. She laughs. “Well you could have plenty of time to master them if you had that much time on your hands. I practiced long and hard to master these abilities.” “C…Could you show me?” She took a sip of her tea and placed it down on the table slowly. “I’m sorry…I can’t. It would take years and years to master this. Don’t you have a family to get home to?” I looked away once she said that and I heard her shift in her seat. “Ah…I see…only your brother? You seem stressed. Talk. Sometimes it’s best to talk to someone that will listen.” I sigh. This was it. I just took a deep breath and talked. I talked about how our parents were killed. How I had someone that I liked very much then I moved onto another girl. All the problems that I have at home and my brother moving out soon for me to be on my own. I told her how I felt all about this. Truth to be told, I’m afraid. I’m afraid to live on my own. Sure I get my house to myself for once, but I just can’t get that feeling of security. Not to mention that it didn’t seem to me like he cared at all either. I told her about Lynn. How I love her so much and how scared I am to tell her how I feel. She just simply nods her head and listens. Not once did she contradict me or try to turn the conversation onto something else. She just listened. I felt my worries start to fade as I kept talking. Remembering memories and thoughts. We laughed at some funny memories and grew silent over sad ones. “See? Now wasn’t that great to relieve that from your thoughts?” “Actually…yeah. It really did.” I smiled wide. She walked to the sink and placed the cups in the sink. She went into the cabinet and took out something wrapped up. She started to speak. “So this Lynn girl…you no longer trust her?” I frowned. “No it’s nothing like that…it’s just…I thought that she wouldn’t get so worked up over just seeing me in a towel.” She smiled and turned around with small chocolate cakes with vanilla icing on them. “Please, take one.” I smiled and grabbed the biggest looking one. I took a massive bite from it and chewed slowly. To my surprise, the filling was blood. I let it squeeze through my teeth and smiled as I ate the rest of it happily. Once I finished, I felt energized somehow. “What type of blood did you put in these…?” She smiled. “It’s the blood of the black wolf. It gives ten times the strength of a human’s blood.” I patted my stomach. “I’m already full. And I could probably eat that whole plate if I wasn’t.” She laughed then looked at me again. Her grey eyes turning darker. “So…your saying that, despite it being Lynn’s first time seeing you in a towel, she’s overreacting?” I flinched. Were my words that harsh? “…I guess you do have a point.” She smiled again and placed the plate down at the table. I went to grab for another one, until the wall clock struck ten. Wow…my day went by pretty fast. “I think I should head home…” I say as I stand. As I grab my shoes to slip them on, I hesitate. I hadn’t also realized that I didn’t even ask for her name. She was just some random lady that I meat while I was wondering around in the woods…or erm…trees. “My name’s Cameron, by the way.” She said. I winced again. I forgot that she could read my thoughts. “T…Thank you for the hospitality. I have to go.” With that, I opened the front door to her house and closed it. I took a deep breath and started to run up the huge Japanese maple tree that was next to her house. As I got to the top, I saw the city lights north from her house. I hopped down from the tree and sprinted towards the civilization. I hopped down the busy street and ran past houses until I came onto a road that I knew too well. My road. Raven’s Road. I started walking down the street and saw that there were ‘Have you seen this teen?’ posters lined up on the street lights with my picture on it. Wow, Mark. Never knew you cared so much… I thought sarcastically and rolled my eyes. I walked up to my house and I looked into the window that was opened just a bit. Mark was sitting at the breakfast bar. His head in his hands. Zoey walked into the view and rubbed his back soothingly. “We’ll find him, Mark.” “What if we don’t? Mom and Dad…if they were to hear this…to see this…I’m such a bad role model.” I stared at him in shock. Mark…is…? Zoey gave him a reassuring hug. I smirked and walked towards the front of the house there had to be another window open. I found one near the living room and slipped inside without making my presence known. I leaned against the wall to the opening of the kitchen. “Really now? You don’t seem like a bad role model to me.” He made a sound of surprise. He looked up at me and yelled; “ARRON!” He practically jumped out of his seat and hugged me so tight I couldn’t breathe. “Geese. I’ve been gone a whole day and you’re almost ready to cry.” “Oh I hate your sarcastic side but I love you little bro!” He gave me a nugie. Zoey smiled at our brotherly fun. He pulled away and his tone was then serious. “And it wasn’t for a day. You’ve been gone a whole week.” My eyes widened. “A week?!” “Yeah! Everyone’s out looking for you!” The front door soon opened and Mark stood in front of me. “No where! He’s no where!” I heard Andy say. “Damnit Arron! Where did you go?!” Danny said shaky. I came out from around Mark and smirked. “Wow, never knew you guys missed me so much.” “ARRON!” Vlad, Kaleb, Danny, Andy, and my cousin all tackled me on the ground in a big hug. “Alright alright I know you guys missed me now get off.” Reluctantly they all got off of me. Except for Mark, who randomly joined in? “Okay Mark? You’re creeping me out.” “Aw I love you too!” I sighed and shook him off me. There was a knock at the door. Everyone looked at me. As if it was my job to answer the door. I shook my head back and forth. “Don’t all jump at once guys. I’ll get the door.” They all laughed quietly and I couldn’t help but smile as I opened the door. My eyes widened as I met the person’s face. They were taken back slowly too. “A…Arron…” “Lynn…” She ran up to me and hugged me by the waist. “ARRON!” “Hey…Hey! Why are you crying! Whoa! Stop that you’re starting to scare me!” She looked up at me, her eyes overflowing with tears, her pretty pale face sad and relieved at once. “Don’t do that again…please…you scared me…” I slowly went from shock to relief myself. She was worried about me…? I felt a smirk run across my face. “Well…you do realize that I can take care of myself? I mean…vampire…being immortal comes with the job description—” I was cut off from her pressing her lips to mines.
