Xenos' Daily Log
This journal includes the highly complicated, schitzophrenic thoughts. Not for the light minded. It is a mixture of caffeine, insanity, seriousness, and comedy.
World War II: D-Day, eh?
June 6th, 1944. D-Day. On this day the amphibious landing of the American, British, and Canadian forces sucessfully got the Allies into France. We all know about Omaha beach, but do non-history enthusiasts review Sword, Gold, and Juno beach? Not really.

The Canadians landed on Juno beach with greater ease than the Americans, but not that much greater. Juno beach was the 2nd most heavily defended beach on the Normandy coastline. The fortifications on Juno Beach weren't even damaged by the aeiral bombardment. Naval bombardment only destroyed 14% of the fortifications. Juno Beach was divided into two sectors, Mike and Nan. The west was Mike and the eastern sector was Nan. The 6th Canadian Armoured Regiment took Mike and the 8th Brigade supported by the 10th Canadian Armoured Regiment took Nan. The 9th Brigade was left in reserve.

In the first hour of assault, Canadian forces suffered about a 50% casualty rate. After they cleared the seawall, Canadian forces had an easier time than the Omaha Beach Americans at subduing inland German forces. By noon, the 3rd Canadian Division had completely landed and had pushed beyond the Seulles River. At 6 p.m. they captured Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. At the end of D-Day, the 3rd Canadian Division had penetrated into France farther than any other Allied force.
