The young mercenary glanced over at his sorcerer friend as he leafed through a book of sorcery.
Dimitri looked back down at what he was doing. His older brother had asked him to retrieve some weaponry for a specific task.
Juki stared down at his sorcery book, trying his hardest to learn and remember his spells and recipes for potions. The sorcerer in training only struggled a little when it came to his studies.
The front door of the small apartment opened as a teenage girl walked through the door with bags in her arms.
Tollim placed the bags on the floor and closed the door behind her. She looked over at Dimitri and Juki and groaned.
"Another depressing day at our house. Why do I even live here with people as depressing as you?"
"I wonder why indeed," Dimitri said without looking up.
Juki tried hard to stifle his laughter.
Tollim put her hands on her hips. What she did was a very well kept secret that even Dimitri and Juki did not know about.
"Dimitri Li! Juki Kaizer! Why do you two always say things like that to me?"
"What is this, cross examination?" Dimitri asked.
The confused looks on both of his friends brought a smile to his face. He shook his head.
"Whatever that means, Dimitri," Tollim said, rolling her eyes. "You guys are just so mean to me."
"Guys?" Juki asked. "What did I do?"
Tollim stared at him. "What don't you do?"
Dimitri looked back down at the papers on the table.
"And you always ignore me."
"I'm busy right now. I've got more important things to take care of right now," Dimitri said.
"Like what?" she asked curiously.
"Something for Vlad."
Juki looked up. "Your older brother?"
Dimitri nodded. "I guess he and Liam are in trouble with that priestess. Long story, Anyway, I have to take a little vacation down to the Bahamas."
Tollim's eyes lit up. "We're going on vacation?"
"I'm going," Dimitri said.
"We should all go and have a little holiday," Tollim said.
Dimitri shook his head. "What I do for a living would scare you."
Her eyes turned sad. "Are you sure?"
He didn't look up. "I'm sure it would. You have no idea what my familiy and I have done. I don't want anyone to know about that, not even Juki."
For a while there was silence. Then two voices rang out.
"Why can't you trust me?"
Dimitri looked up at Juki and Tollim. Both of them had the same look in their eyes.
"Just leave me alone," Dimitri said. He stormed off to his room. The slam of the door made Tollim jump.
Juki looked over at Tollim. "He'll be alright. Sooner or later. It's getting late, we should go to bed."
Tollim only nodded.
