She turned and suddenly the lights went off.
“Who’s there?” She said, frightened. Her hands started to shake and the knife dropped, missing her foot slightly. She jumped back and looked around, her eyes finally adjusted to the darkness. A face, illuminated by the dim moonlight shining through the cracks, started to twist.
“Are you ready my dear?” It said.
“Ready…for what?” And as soon as she said that the face disappeared. A maniacal laughter rang through out the whole castle and Ame jumped and started to fall backwards into a pit full of rotten, decaying bodies. Her white-blonde hair wrapped around her body as she fell, fell to the death. A long scream came, then complete silence. The castle was quiet, eerily quiet. Nothing moved, nothing made a sound, or dared even to breathe.
*2 months later*
“I wonder what ever happened to Ame…they said that she entered the castle and she never left…hmm…”
“Oh stop worrying about her. She’s fine I’m sure.”
“But mom! Nobodies heard from her in forever!”
“She probably just had another one of her fits with her mother and she ran away. She does that all the time.”
“Yes, I know! Just she never has for this long! It’s always been like 2 weeks, not 2 months!”
“Oh shut up Camille and go to school or else your going to be late.”
“Fine. See ya later. Tell dad I said ‘hi’ when he gets home okay?”
“Okay darling, bye, love you and have a nice day.”
“You too!” I quickly rushed out the door and the bus was almost about to leave. “Wait!” I yelled. The doors opened and I ran in and took my usual seat next to Andrew and Dustin in the back. “So Dustin…where’s Lela this morning?”
“Eh she’s at her dad’s. I think.”
“Oh…okay. I was looking forward to seeing her this morning. I have something for her to read.”
“She’ll be in school after lunch, she can’t go more than a day without seeing me ya know.”
I slapped him lightly “ oh shut up!”
“Hey! How come no one ever talks to me in the morning?” A guy named Trevor whined.
“Because your annoying.” I said.
“Exactly.” Andrew agreed.
Trevor turned around and pouted. The bus came to a screeching halt and I bit my tongue.
“Damn…I always do that…” I complained as we started to walk towards the front.
“Hey Randi!” I yelled happily, getting off the bus, and I ran up then hugged her. “You actually got here before we did!”
“Yeah I know!”
The first period bell rang and everybody rushed to his or her class. I stayed out in the hallway, in front of my class, and waited for Andrew to pass me. I grabbed his shirtsleeve and yanked him towards me, he was used to it though.
“Do you know what happened to Ame?”
“Camille for the sixth time no!”
“I’m sorry…I’m just worried about her and I miss her…she’s my best friend and I’m starting to think that something happened to her.”
“Stop worrying baby…she’s fine.”
“I know…but I’m still worried.”
“Don’t be, she’ll be back soon. I promise.” He gave me a kiss on the cheek then Dustin grabbed his collar and started to drag him up the stairs.
“You’re going to be late Taggart. Hurry up!” Dustin let go of him and they started to push each other around going up the stairs jokingly.
I slipped inside my class just as the bell rang and sat in my seat, hoping that the teacher didn’t notice, but she did.
“You’re late again Ms. Marker. That’s your seventh tardy, when will you ever learn?”
“I’m sorry Mrs. Johnson. It wont happen again.”
“It better not or else you have ISS.”
The school day was over and I already packed up my bag and was standing outside, waiting for my mom to pick me up. Andrew came from behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, making me jump.
“I told you not to do that without warning me first Andrew! I hate that!”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok. Plus, I’d never be able to stay mad at you.” Just then my mom pulled in and I kissed Andrew lightly and hopped in the car.
I plopped my bag down on my bed and fell right next to it. “Wow I hate school.” I said to myself. Just then, someone knocked on my door.
“Cami. Open up it’s me…Dustin.” He sounded frantic.
“What are you doing here?” I said, opening up my bedroom door.
“Lela’s gone missing and I don’t know where she went…”
“I’m sure she’s safe. She’s probably over at Andrew’s or Tony’s.”
“She’s not! I already checked there!”
“Well then we’ll go look for her, just let me get my jacket.” I rushed out into the dining room and grabbed my jacket off the chair. “Mom! Lela went missing! I’m going to help Dustin find her!”
“Okay hunny, just be back by tomorrow, you can’t risk missing another day of school.”
I grabbed Dustin by the hand and rushed out the door and down the street a little ways. “Where do you think she’d be?”
“If I knew that I wouldn’t have come and get you…”
“Good point.”
*A couple hours later*
“It’s starting to get dark. Don’t you think we should turn back?”
“No! I’m not stopping until I find Lela.”
“Fine…” I muttered.
Suddenly, I felt something crack beneath my feet. I jumped back because I knew what the cracking sound was.
“Holy…” My hands flew to my mouth to stop me from puking. Below me was a body, decapitated and decaying. Scratch marks and bite wounds covered it completely and you couldn’t even make out the person’s head, which was about 2 feet away from the body. I couldn’t stop staring at it. It was like the body had put a trance on me. Dustin kneeled down next to it and took out a little ID card stuffed in its pocket. His mouth dropped open and he backed away from the body slowly.
“It’s…it’s….it’s…Lela…” I saw tears start to roll down his cheeks then I started to cry with him.
I heard something rustle in the bushes behind us and I jumped again. A snarl came from it then it ran deep into the woods.
“I think that was what killed her Dustin…and I think it wants to kill us too…” My voice was nothing more than a whisper and I was still in shock. Heck, knowing me I would be for the next month.
I was still crying when I got home and Dustin was too.
“You should go home Dustin, it’s getting late, and try to get some sleep okay? I’m sure your mother would mind if you weren’t home soon.” My mother tried to comfort him but it didn’t work as well as she planned. He rushed out the door and started running down our street, towards the woods where the thing that killed Lela went into.

...and so you're drinking in your room
to make it all go
it didn't end too soon
you've got the next one
you're holding on too long
you've got to let go
your other love is gone
and you know...
