Entry 1
It all started when we (referring to my best friend Rebecca and I) were strolling along the wharfs, my favorite place to be. It was late in the afternoon, and the shadows were just beginning to lengthen. We were chatting about the new shipments of silk from Asia that were coming the next week, and she was describing the dress to be made for her that she would wear to the banquet. After we had parted ways, I decided to head home, but instead of following the usual route through the dank marketplace, I chose to cut through a long, narrow alley, which would speed my journey up immensely. I had stepped into its shadows somewhat hesitantly, glancing around at the shadowy walls, imagining the things which could be hiding behind the trash piles. I shivered at the thought, and hurried past the trash bins, sometimes hearing scampering sounds behind me. I turned, and caught a glimpse of a large rodent. Turning back in repulsion, I got closer to the end of the alley. And that’s when I froze. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. I had heard footsteps behind me. I was sure of it.
