The forest was filled with the cheers, laughter, howls, and other happy expressions as the party began. There were were-beasts of all shapes, sizes, species, breeds, and even colors (since some of them dyed not only their hair, but their fur as well).
Everyone had someone to talk to and hang out with and there was so much to catch up on. Dawn was found with her identical sisters, Dusk and Twilight. Trevor hung out and flexed muscles with his cousins Drake (a dragon), Melanie (a horse), and Hakeem (a lion). Jessica could be found talking to her younger sister, Ariel (a wolf), and her brother-in-law Thomas (a rabbit). The children and infants were playing all sorts of games around the forest. Omega could be found running away from Delta along with a few of his female cousins, but that was only because it was a group game of tag (or so he thought). Everyone was having a wonderful time catching up on family-based news, future plans, playing games, telling jokes, eating, and so many other things. Even Uncle Tyler was having a blast playing pin the tail on the donkey (despite that he was the donkey). Everything was going so well, yet even the most alert of the family had no idea of what was lurking deep within the shadows of the forest.
“Do they even know that we’re here?”
“Heh. Those stupid beasts don’t have the slightest clue.”
“They’ll learn soon enough…”
“Yes…they’ll learn their place soon enough...”
Back at the party, the adults were sitting around a massive table eating and conversing as well as showing off weapons, trinkets, and such. The children, however, had already eaten and had gone off to play. 20 out of the 100 children went off to play Hide n’ Seek while the rest went off to play other games. Sigma was selected to be it and the front door of the house as home base. As Sigma began counting to 30, the other 19 children ran off to hide.
“When do we strike?”
“Just a little longer…”
After about 20 minutes or so, Sigma had found all of the children except Omega and Delta. He stroked his chin and soon had an idea of where one if not both of them would be. He then chuckled lightly as he bolted off into the forest heading towards a secret grove that the three of them had found sometime last year. When he entered the den-like grove, he had found both of his targets and scoffed as he watched Delta trying to ‘play’ with an unconscious Omega (this time she hit him with a frying pan). Just as Sigma was about to say something, a loud scream ripped through the near silent area and woke up Omega. Delta had nearly jumped out of her skin when she had heard the scream and Sigma almost did the same. The three siblings jumped up and ran out of the grove and back to the house to investigate what had happened. When the trio arrived at the house, their jaws dropped as their eyes nearly popped out of their heads looking in terror at the horrifying sight before them.
The party was in shambles and the scent of blood tainted the night air. They could see a few of their dead relatives strewn about ranging from limbs to entire bodies. They could see the ones that were still alive fighting against red robed hooded figures. Delta quickly ducked when she heard a knife coming at her and whined softly as she looked up at the figure in front of her. Omega and Sigma made short work of the attacker now that they had been filled with rage. The two brothers roared as they now held dark twisted versions of their elemental swords (Sigma’s was made of ice as Omega’s was made of fire). They charged in to try and fight off the intruders and save who they could. Delta, on the other hand, ran in as well to try and heal those who were injured. The fight raged on for hours and all seemed lost for the beast family as they began falling one by one. Dawn and Trevor looked around frantically as they fought hoping that their children were alright. After being saved by Omega and Sigma’s dual attacks, Dawn smiled yet tried to get them away from the fight by grabbing and throwing them into the forest. This, however failed to work when the two latched onto a tree and came back to fight again. Trevor had become more and more worried about not only his mother, but also Delta, Lucky, and Anna. He then saw a figure carrying the two infants and charged at the figure before he was badly wounded by a few swords being inserted into his body. He could only fall back, but wasn’t planning to go down just yet. Dawn and Delta both rushed to his side, but he tried to shoo the two away so that they wouldn’t be attacked. Unfortunately, his plan didn’t work and Delta was immediately grabbed by her ears and held before the two by one of the figures. The two could only growl and gripped their weapons seeing now that three figures were holding their three youngest children with blades directed at them. The two tried to plead for mercy to save their children, but the negotiations were futile as the infants were killed first. Their screams of pain tore through their parents’ hearts like a hot knife through butter. But that was only the first blow as they slowly killed Delta after removing her ears. The two then roared as they charged the ones who killed their children and began cutting their enemies down in a blind fury. It had ended for them as their bodies, now too badly wounded to continue on, went down after uttering one final howl and their last kiss. The intruders made sure that the two of them were dead by repeatedly stabbing them.
Jessica was now fighting alongside Omega and Sigma. The three of them heard the cry from Trevor and Dawn and caused them to fight even harder with little to no remorse. When all seemed clear, Jessica looked to her grandsons and tried to get them to safety. She wanted to get them as far away as possible, but as they were leaving the area, she heard Ariel scream and ran off to help her. Sigma ran after her and Omega remained alone. He had stayed behind because he had felt another presence in the area. When Jessica arrived at where her sister was, she was enraged to find her dead and the beloved pendant that she had gotten from their mother stolen. She rushed to her sisters side and was killed from a crossbow assault. Sigma arrived at the scene and began running away to find his brother before he, like his grandmother, was killed by crossbows. He howled out in sorrow as he fell dead to the ground. It seemed that when he had died, the ocean, rivers, lakes, and even the clouds responded as it began to rain and the tides shifted.
Omega howled for the loss of his family, now being the last one left. He then growled as the single presence drew closer and turned glaring at the figure. He was slightly shocked to see the figure of a young human girl standing before him. Though she wore the same robes and hood, he could make out her face and was hesitant on killing her. When she drew her blade he just slammed the ground with his fist and kicked up smoke before running away. He couldn’t shake the look of the girl’s face out of his mind as he ran and ran wanting to get away. He was now afraid, of the intruders. He was afraid of dying, but more than that, he was afraid of being alone. He entered the secret grove and hid amongst the tall grass and other flora shivering like a hairless Chihuahua in winter. He began to cry still smelling the scent of death and the smoke from his house being burnt. He cried not wanting to die, not wanting to lose his family. He cried feeling like a coward having run away. There, amongst the silence of the grove, he remained vowing to never run again, that he would one day become strong and avenge his fallen family.
