Making sense of everything... |

Daphne's eyeballs fluttered slightly under the closed eyelids shaded by long, dark eyelashes before her eyes opened, the bright golden orbs engaging in a quick scanning of the surrundings. She recognizd almost immediately the tiny room with little furnishing and the immaculate white walls where she spent hours at an end getting bored out of her mind the last time she was brought to infirmery. Blinking a few times she let her pupils adapt to the light...
It took her a few moments to process the excess information poured into her brain in the last moments of consciousness. She was trying to make sense of it all: so, she was fighting Seph when Tryst interferred to drag her out of the battle because she was pregnant...which was impossible, she thought.. then Tryst seeped inside of her with her breath, then Nek came.. and told her the same thing...except he was much more convincing...he fed her his memories of that night, memories that had been erased from her mind by the drug Legato used...and then she remembered Legato telling her he wanted her to be the mother of his child... That b*****d! To take advantage of her like that! She never thought he'd lower himself that much... Her arm moved involuntarily over her abdomen and caressed it, her gaze following the movement of her arm. A monster! She was carrying a monster inside of her and it needed to be taken out as quick as possible. That awful man proved to her once again there was no escaping him! He haunted her dreams, he haunted her with his physical presence, and now he possessed her body too...
Slowly, she slid a hand to the edge of the bed. Peering out with her glowing yellow eyes, she saw the open door. She crawled out of the bed her hand wrapping around the tubes feeding nutrients into her veins and yanked them out without a second though, winching slightly under the pain. Wabbling out the doorway she headed down the corridor, dizzy and exhausted, looking for the obstretician's office. She knew it was there, and she put extra effort into reaching it before some nurse would get to her and oblige her to return into bed. She also knew Audrey was watching her every step, and sooner or later the chocolate skin woman would interfere as well. She stopped before the door and knocked hard, once, then entered without waiting for permission. To her surprise the woman there had a friendly smile engraved on her face and told her she was waiting for Daphne to arrive, that Audrey told her the girl would go there first thing when she'll be awake. She offered to give her a check and confirm or infirm the accusations, as Daphne called them, and after the girl agreed the doctor confirmed two things: that Daphne still had her integrity... and that she was pregnant. But what the girl asked her to do next, the doctor didn't agree anymore. It was against the rules, the girl was told, meant taking an innocent life away and that couldn't be done. It wasn't allowed, not there, not anywhere else, and if she'd try anywhere else she'd be very disappointed to find out that she won't even reach that cabinet.
It became obvious that the girl was about to burst with anger. Her mind couldn't grasp the concept of having a part of Legato developing inside of her, not to mention the actual pregnacny process and giving birth at a little over 17 years of age. She tried to explain to the doctor that her already shaky life would go down the drain, how was she going to hunt now? How was she going to do her job? It wasn't fair to her or the life inside of her, but the answer remained the same. In addition she was informed that there's an office in the Hunters Department, her office! That's how she was going to continue...
Angered and desperate she darted out of the cabinet slamming the door hard behind her. Her mind straying, searching for variants to this newly born issue. Part of her was still in denial, despite what she was told and shown so far. She still hoped it was nothing but a bad dream, and that she'll wake up at any moment...and as she wondered down the hallways on her way to the elevator, forgetting completely about her 'attire', the hospital paper robe, the brown hair falling in beddragled tendrils over her face, shoulders and chest, the ravished face with dark shadows under her eyes, Audrey's image appeared by her side, making her stop abbruptly. The woman's stern expression, the blunt tone of her voice, her words.. " Your brother has died last night. While transformed he tried to enter the Complex and was taken down" ..all those factors hit her like a sledge-hammer and she felt that the world was collapsing once again for her. It was just her destiny - never to get what she wanted...not a normal life, no peace of mind, no revenge, nothing! She didn't even feel the nurses behind her catching her from the under arms as she was falling. Eveything moved about her in slow motion, she could see them move their lips, look at her, but the sounds were so distorted, thick and sensless...she wanted to fight them, to struggle out of their hold and run down the hallway, run and hide somewhere where nobody could find her, but the body wasn't listening to the commands of the brain now. Placed back to bed she felt a welcomed cofort to lie down like that. She closed her eyes, ignoring the voices and fuss about the room, and tried to focus on finding that tiny peaceful spot inside her mind, the sanctuary. Then she'll try once again to re-arrange all the thoughts rushing through her head.
