With The Will To Fight
Hazel eyes drifted up to the roof of the classroom and a tired girl rested her palm under her chin. It was another one of those days that droned on and on and seemed to last forever...
"Kai? Kai Furugori...Are you here on earth with us?"
Snapping out of her daydream, Kai snapped her head forward and she stood so quickly that her desk chair slid to the ground with a loud boom. She blushed as her classmates laughed, and as the teacher wrote her name on the board. Kai brushed her golden amber bangs out of her eyes, and pulled her skirt down.
Stupid uniforms. Made for anorexic girls...
"You can sit now Kai, just pay attention please?" Kai nodded and picked her chair back up. Slumping deeply into, she could feel the stares and heard snickers throughout the classroom.
Resting her arms in a folded position on her desk and placing her head in that cradle, Kai slowly moved her eyes throughout the room to see if a particular someone was gazing upon her with laughter, or actual pity.
He wasn't of course. Tsumi was of course scribbling down the notes on the whiteboard into his notebook. Which Kai should have doing, but didn't. She moaned, and glanced up towards the board again, which was increasing in words and sentences.
People had said freshmen year was hard, but Kai didn't think they were actually serious...
Picking up her mechanical pencil, Kai opened her notebook and flipped to the latest blank page. Glancing back up towards the board, she began copying down the words furiously, hoping to catch up before the teacher erased it all.
* * *
The bell tolled 3 and teens things into their briefcases and scurried out the door in a huff, leaving Kai all to herself. She slowly packed her workbooks and notebook and pencil case, not aware of the teacher standing at her desk.
"Kai, I'd wish that you'd try harder. I know it's difficult for you at home, but-"
Snapping the lock on her briefcase, Kai pushed her way out of the chair and clutched her things tightly.
"Kai, just lis-"
Pushing her chair back into her desk, Kai simple walked past the teacher, hair grazing upon his shoulder.
"Kai, you nee-"
She opened the classroom door and shut it gently, leaving the teacher to himself.
Kai ran her fingers through her hair, moaned, and calmly walked out the school doors. Suddenly, a harsh push upon her back made her flying forwards on her face in the cold dirt.
"Hey Kaiiii," Snickered a cold voice and 3 more tones of snickers were heard behind her. Kai pushed her way up on her palms, trying to stand on her feet again, but her try's were futile as a kick was forced upon her back.
"We were just wondering...if you had any spare change? My friends and I are a tad hungr-AAH!"
Due to the sudden speech, Kai turned around and saw her bully being punched across the field into the cold grass. There standing in front of Kai was an older girl whom she had never met before. She was crackling her knuckles in front of the other two bullies, but stopped as they ran off to their leader. The girl turned around and held her hand out towards Kai, and she happily took it, and she pulled her to her feet.
"Hey!" Said the girl casually. "Do they always bother you like that? You should do something ba- OH! Sorry `bout that. The name's Elaine. You?" Kai listened intently to this new girl named Elaine. Boy that was an odd name.
"Kai. Thanks. For defending me, but you really didn't..."
"Ah just accept it wholeheartedly. Do they rule the school?" Elaine continued, and placed her hands on her hips happily.
"Uh...yeah. But you really shouldn't have! If you go against them...the whole school will..." Kai explained desperately. "Before they put you on their bad list..."
"Me?! Kiss up to them? Forget it. I've already got a friend. Hey, where do you live?" Elaine said, and continued to surprise Kai. This girl was amazingly positive and continued to be friendly with her. Kai smiled kindly and pointed to a western direction.
"Over there. But I had been planning to stop by the bakery on the way home...Want to come? I could get you a Melon Pan since you kinda helped me here..."
Elaine smiled back and winked. "Sure thing! Say, are you a freshmen? I'm new here, which is why I don't know much by the way."
"Yeah! I take it you are too? Oh, I see..." Kai said, keeping her eyes straight on the road as they made their way to the bakery. On the freshmen note, Elaine nodded and the two continued to make their way to the bakery.
