The act itself is not stupid, but the people in it and the discussions are. There are no good arguments to explain this.
Usually I am met with such statements as, "Well, it's GD, what do you expect?" "Everyone's 13 years old, what do you want?"
There's nothing wrong with demanding that people not be total morons. I think that's a pretty fair expectation out of people. Until someone shows me the part in the Terms of Service that states only people of below average intelligence and the complete lack of ability to think criticial or reason are allowed to post on Gaia forums, I will continue to call people stupid and assert that the General Discussion forum is unacceptable.
