_________Winterborn of Flame
spacespaceKorubi
- Of the seven Winterborn, Korubi was the least suited to her post.
Unlike Cassandra, Korubi was not very graceful. She wasn't clumsy, but she couldn't dance, and no one had ever been mesmerized by her movements, whereas Cassandra could keep people entranced for hours just by walking back and forth in front of them.
Korubi was not as smart as Zilf. Zilf could run academic circles around her, despite the fact that he'd been born in a poor farming village and she'd had tutors for most of her life. Next to him, Korubi seemed like a complete idiot.
Nanashi was much more athletic than Korubi. Nanashi could do flips, back flips, handstands, and cartwheels, and she could run all day without getting tired. Korubi could barely jog for an hour without feeling like she was going to die.
When it came to the use of her magic, Korubi was outdone by Roma. The ways Roma could twist and bend shadows to her will were inventive and elegant. She was nothing short of a master at weaving her gifted element, while Korubi was lucky if she could keep her power from running wild and devouring her whole.
Lila was far prettier than Korubi. She shone like the sun, with a beautiful smile and a lovely voice. Being seen with Lila always made Korubi feel like an awkward crow in a garden full of dainty songbirds.
Even Jida surpassed Korubi; he was a brilliant strategist and an excellent leader, and he could even be kind to a plain, talentless thing like her. She didn't know how Jida could stand to be seen with her, but he seemed to delight in it.
And Korubi? She couldn't do anything right. She wasn't beautiful, she wasn't wise, she couldn't sing or dance or cook. She hadn't even been Thinos's first choice. Her twin Xara had been destined to be the Winterborn of Flame. Xara was supposed to be the one with this terrible power, not her. If he had not died, then perhaps Korubi would not feel so useless and lost. Perhaps she would have found somewhere to belong.
