"Your mom's gonna kick you out." Hanna sighed. "-hmph-" was my only reply. I knew that my mother was going to kick me out. I had known for almost two months "Get a job by the end of May or your out!" was what she'd said. And she wouldnt let me forget it. She had reminded me everyday since she had screamed it at me the first time. She had said it after another one of our fights but she had meant every word of it. Though I really couldnt blame her. Jobless for eight months? At the age of 18 there was no excuse for that sort of thing. But still I had procrastinated and told myself "I'll do it tomorrow when I'm not so tired." or found another anime to watch instead. I did anything and everything BUT look for a job. Now it was the last day of May and big surprise, no job. "Suck in your pride and just do it!" Hanna gave me a shove towards the door but I wouldnt go a step further. I looked at the painted sliding doors with a mix of disgust and horror. I had told myself that I would never, EVER do food service again. And yet, here I was, coming to literally beg for a job at a hospital cafeteria. My entire body stiffened as I took a few moments to contemplate if being a hobo would be all that terrible. Then I remembered that I had to much pride to mooch off of others if I could avoid it. Damn! "You dont have a choice." Hanna said quietly behind me. She could tell from the scrunched up look on my face that I was having an internal conflict and that it was best to remain silent. She knew as I knew that this was my last course of action and that I would eventually do what was needed. I just wanted to act the part of "rebel" a bit longer and stand outside like I really wasnt going to go in and get down on hands and knees and cry pitifully to a manager for a job. Desperation does horrible things to people...
