Az is the living personification of "canon raepage." Which is kind of tragic, because I love Alien.

Created as a by-product of the Queen purging herself of the accumulated host DNA, Az was originally another semi-mindless drone. Once the hive was attacked and the Queen's link with her damaged -- however briefly -- Az succumbed to her human instincts, rather than her xenomorphic ones, and fled.

After living in solitude for an extended period of time, she ventured forth out and began to mingle with humans. She found them disgusting and petty, insignificant and inferior, and often times made no effort to hide this fact. Although she acknowledged she was, in part, human, Az considered herself a member of neither species. This was in stark contrast to the fact that she was constantly trying to reconcile her xenomorphic instincts -- of killing, destroying, and otherwise conquering -- with her human instincts -- for contact, reproduction, and ... well, the conquering came in there too, but that was probably less of an instinct than a developed trait.

She managed to draw on the memories of her host -- not only for her attire, but also to fumble her way through most encounters. Az preferred to be alone and resented any intrusion on her personal space, although her natural curiousity tended to over ride any resentment after a brief time. She wanted to know how everything worked -- and had no problems dissecting whatever she was studying to find out.

By the time she met Agito, her personality was firmly established -- a child like innocence contrasted sharply with her violently homicidal tendencies, although she still struggled with what set of instincts she should follow. She was rebellious -- constantly rebelling against her Queen's wheedling demands, against the humans she met, against whatever she could find to rebel against, really. Naturally arrogant, she rapidly developed a mild superiority complex, although the xenomorphic instincts subconsciously won out when she was faced with someone that was blatantly her superior -- she was bred to be a drone, not a leader. She still considered humans beneath her, but they fascinated her, and so their existance was tolerated. She craved power -- not because she wanted to rule, but because those who have power, are not ruled. More than anything, at that point, she valued her freedom.

After Agito dissapeared, her personality went through another shift. Although unable to return his love in any tangible sense, she did care for him deeply, and his loss devastated her. She lost all fascination with the human race and rejected the majority of her human instincts. She secluded herself to a specific patch of land, and had no qualms slaughtering whoever intruded -- deliberately, or not. She relied more and more on her xenomorphic instincts, and although she never returned to the hive, it was more out of self imposed punishment than any forced exile.
