Chapter 2
Maki stood in the woods near her village. They called this place Inuyasha's forest, she knew the name well. She'd met him as a child, Kaitou, his son was her best friend...until their training had started. Her thoughts were broken as hurried footsteps grew nearer making a racket in the serene forest. "Maki-san!" A childish voice cried out. The tajiya turned to see a young boy from her village running towards her. "What is it Tanaka?" She asked waiting for the boy to catch his breath. "There- there is a-a man in the village asking for Sango-sama." He gasped out. 'A man?' She thought kneeling down to the younger boy's height. "Tanaka, do you remember if he left a name?" She asked graspign him gently by the shoulders. She prayed this person meant well towards her family. Her parents had gained many enemies over the years they fought with Inuyasha, she hoped that this wasn't some enemy seeking revenge. Several demons from that time had already come after them, so far all had been defeated. Tanaka shook his head. "I'm sorry Maki-san he didn't." She closed her eyes and sighed. "Thank you Tanaka, go back to the village now." He nodded and obeyed taking off at a run. Maki watched him take the path and once he was out of sight headed through a short cut to the village.
When she reached the village everything seemed normal, children were playing, adults were going about their usual work. She ran towards her family's hut and saw nothing out of the ordinary, no fighting. Just her mother and... "Kanaye?" She asked eyes widening in shock as she recognized the man Tanaka had been talking about. "Maki." He nodded in greeting his face was calm, but his eyes were smiling. "Maki-chan you know this man?" Sango asked hiding her suprise. Maki nodded slowly. "Yes he was the one who saved me from those theives." She explained throwinga "What are you doing here?" look towards Kanaye. He didn't seem to notice it. Sango's eyes widened. " Thank you so much for helping my daughter." Kanaye held up a hand. "I didn't do anything but speed up the process. She is skilled she could've taken them herself." Maki smiled feeling a little embarrassed how could he know how skilled she was? "If you don't mind me asking why have you come here?" Kanaye smiled back, he tended to do that alot. "I wanted to train with the legendary Sango, the last of the demon slayers... though she isn't the last anymore." His smile was sincere, but something.....about him made Maki more than a little uncomfortable. 'There is more to Kanaye than he is letting on...and I'm going to find out just what it is.'
