Rain drops mingled with tears that ran down Maki's cheek as she knelt in the mud allowing the down pour to envelope her body. Why did this have to happen? She had been so happy
Maki reached out to the edge of the cliff wishing for a breif moment that she too had been thrown over the side. Blood covered her hands and her soft eyes widened in shock and horror as she realized who's blood it was. The rain pelted down harder on her back plastering her hair to her skin. Maki covered her face in her hands and cried. It was all her fault.
Maki lay still for a long time not bothering to do anything but breathe. Even that she wished she could stop. It was her fault a man was dead. The man she loved. The crimson stains on her skin made her sick she pounded her hands into the mud yet the stain remained. A scream filled the sky and it wasn't until moments later that she realized it was her throat that the screams came from.
Another year had passed and Maki spent every moment she could with Kanaye. It was only natural that when Sango sent Maki out to slay a demon that Kanaye went with her. The pair rode on Kirara's back Kanaye sitting behind Maki and held his arm around her. "Maki-chan?" He whispered her name in her ear. "Hm?" She asked not bothering to turn around. "There is something I want to tell you..." "I was wondering if...well...I am planned on leaving soon. Your family has done so much for me..." Maki's heart fell. "Oh I see...so this will be our last fight together huh?" "Maki, I'm not finished." Kanaye said with a sigh his voice extremely nervous. "Kanaye what is it?" She asked becoming worried. "Maki...when I leave will...will you come with me?" Maki blinked turning so that her eyes met his. "Are you asking me to...." Her voice trailed off as he nodded slowly. Maki could feel tears come for a reason she couldn't explain. The tajiya nodded rapidly. "Yes."
Maki wiped her eyes taking one last look at the cliff. Kanaye had been protecting her from the demon. She should've died in his place. He'd only proposed the day before. Her mind raced but there was only one clear thought... Why?
