'How is this possible?' Sarabith asked herself as she remained standing, looking into the open door. An open door with a secret, a curse?, a mysterious wonder. A door that lead to another world.
All that could be seen beyond the old, dusty, wooden frame was a vast expanse of thick forest. Sarabith gleamed with excitement and fear. Another dimention lurked within her new home. Sarabith stepped towards the portal in hopes of viewing something other than trees; a person, a creature, or anything that might be useful to explain what and where this land was. As she grew nearer and nearer to the entrance way, Sarabith stopped to think on what she was doing.
She stood there for quite some time until a sly grin developed upon her face. She reached her hand out to the forest and stepped through. The next thing she saw were trees. She had entered the mystic land. Sarabith grew astounded, but that soon transformed to worry. 'How will I get back home? .... Is there anybody else here, and if so are they friendly? .... Is there only forest?' These were some of the questions rushing through her head.
She began walking toward what she thought looked like a clearing; walking in a daze as if hypnotized by the glistening sunlight in the distance dancing on the luminous green leaves. She seemed unconcerned about leaving the portal back home and possibly never finding it again. She just kept walking, proceeding closer to the clearing with every step.
Suddenly she heard something that startled her; a twig breaking under the pressure of a foot. Sarabith froze as her eyes searched furiously, trying to discover the thing that was coming ever so closer to where she stood. Her heart raced as she noted each muffled step becoming heavier, louder. Sarabith's body stiffened when she heard the thing pause and whisper, "Hello?"
