Modern Medieval

Clarence was a rather peculiar child. One thing he wished for more than anything would be to abandon the time period he was in and have a wonderful vacation. He always spoke with intelligent dialect and whenever he could get away with it he used old English. He longed to visit the Middle Ages. One day he would get that wish.
It is hard to explain what happened then. Clarence’s teacher told the class to write a story of their dream vacation. Clarence immediately went to work. Suddenly he found himself at a table, writing with a quill pen on a slightly yellowed piece of parchment. He was flummoxed and blinked to see he was writing by only a small candle.
“Art thou finished with that petition to the king, lord Clarence?” came a voice from the left.
Clarence rose from his seat and exited the room past the maid. He glanced around and smiled. He knew exactly where he was though he hadn’t been there before. He had received his wish. A balcony was near by and he went out and slept on it. For about a week Clarence roamed the castle, relaxing in many areas and partaking in the feasts. He didn’t have to work except walk about in the castle. Eventually though, some did grow suspicious.
The king watched Clarence closely throughout the week. Soon he realized Clarence was never part of their kingdom. He also discovered that Clarence never helped in any work but took advantage of all the leisure he could get. The king did not desire lazy lords inside his palace. Also, by the way Clarence acted the king knew he didn’t belong in this time period. He decided he must give that sloth-like person heaps of work to either make him more useful or drive him out of the kingdom.
Clarence was sleeping in an elegantly crafted bed one morning as a stentorian knock pounded against his door. It felt so nice to finally rest after his hectic life so he was angered that he had to wake from his slumbers. He opened the door and saw the king standing before him. He hurriedly bowed to the floor. The king smiled and handed a scroll to Clarence. He opened it and his eyes widened in disbelief. On the scroll were written the most foolish tasks in all of humanity. Clarence was about to question but when he looked up the king was gone.
Clarence didn’t wish to disobey his orders and carried out the ridiculous tasks. His tasks accomplished nothing, but were just steps to organized chaos. Not only were the tasks destructive, but also exhausting. Some jobs were ridiculous such as cutting his bedding up, tying it together, then throwing the finished product out the window! Finally he couldn’t take it anymore and went to the king to question the need for these quests. The king was pleased at Clarence’s annoyance.
“I’m glad you are bright enough to see that these were all pointless,” the king beamed. “Though I felt I had a right to pester you with such considering the fact that you’re stealing from my kingdom when you don’t even live in this time period.” Clarence gulped and wondered how he knew. “Guards, take him away!”
The guards seized Clarence and led him away from the king. He was extremely confused. Why was he even here in the first place? How could he relax before like it was a perfect vacation? Soon he passed out.

“Clarence!” Mrs. Sanchez snapped.
Clarence’s head shot up from where it was resting on his desk. His #2 pencil was in his hands and on his desk was his homework about his dream vacation. What a dream vacation that certainly was! He was even more perplexed and his head was buzzing. He looked around him and the whole class was quiet and working.
“What was that?” Clarence muttered, as the bell rang.

We had to write this for Writing class. I'm not the best with writing a story and keeping it short. Oh well, it's still sort of fun.
