Second Chance...
The hallway was dark and empty as her bare feet carried her silently across the soft carpetting. Her dark hair was pulled into a pony tail and her chocolate brown eyes starred at her destination, the door by the stairs. She bit her lower lip and looked back for a second at where her room was supposed to be, right now it looked like a black hole that was just waiting to swallow her up. She pulled her pajama bottoms up before continueing down the hall. Soon she stood before the room with the four stickers in the center of it reading "Happy", "Mad", "Sad", and "Calm". She silently pulled the door knob down and pushed the door open. She slipped inside the room with a swift movement of her feet and then carefully closed the door. She turned, only to see this room was as dark as hers at midnight. She stood at the door until her determinded eyes adjusted to the darkness of the bed room her brother occupied. She looked at the tall loft bed and soon found herself making her way towards it. Never had she been so quiet in this room, maybe if she had before the future wouldn't end up like it was destined to. She placed her small hand on the silver ladder and then pulled her averge-sized body up the ladder and to the top of the loft where she climbed on to the soft matress. She sat at his feet for a few moments in silence before she tapped him softly until he sat up. He blinked in the darkness until he could make out her face, streaked with tears and fashioned with a sad frown. He pushed himself into a more awake zone and starred at her with a look of concern, "You okay sis?"
She shook her head and starred at him, "Have you ever been given a second chance?" She asked and before he could answer she added, "I have."
He starred at her, a bewildered look now over-took his face. Her eyes downcast, "Last night an angel came to me. He said that he could sence my sadness from afar." She said, "He said that the thing I miss... Is you."
He starred at her, "But... I'm not gone." He said, "Are you feeling okay?"
She nodded, "I'm fine." She said, "You see in about a month from this date... You leave. You go to New Mexico.. You leave and you don't ever want to come back." She said and before he could find the right words to say, "And for two years I missed you so much. Sure, we visited each other and we called and talked, but I had to walk down the hall past your empty room everyday and feel like I have lost the coolest thing in my life." She looked back at him as more tear slipped down her cheeks.
He starred at her in curiousity. After a moment he reach over one of his large rough hands and wipped the tears from her cheeks and then pulled her closer to him and held her in a warm hug, "Why would I ever leave such a cool sister?" He asked, "I couldn't." He said and continued to hold her.
"But you do." She said, "I wasn't prepared for it and I didn't know." So that's why today I used all my saved money on you and spending time with you." She said, "Having the most fun we could because for a long time.. We won't have that." She said and tears continued to slip down her pink cheeks, "The Angel only said one day... Today." She said and looked at him, "But it's midnight and this will all be gone soon." She said, "I love you."
He starred at her and rocked her back and fourth as she cried more and more. Soon the crying subsided and he felt her body go into a slow soft breathing. Like she was sleeping... She was. He leaned back and let her sleep on his chest. He was tired and she was agsausted. He pushed the curly hair away from her ear, "I love you too." He whispered into ear before falling asleep.
The next morning the girl woke up to the sound of her mother's worried voice on her cell phone. She sat up to see she was in her brother's bed alone. She looked to her mother, who was hanging up, "You alright? You missed school and it looks like you have been crying." She said.
The girl looked to the ceiling, "I'm good." She lied, "Sorry I missed school." She said and looked back to her mom, "Sorry about not sleeping in my bed either." She said, "I'll get up and dressed. You can drive me to school and life will go on." She said and rubbed at her eyes, swollen from the crying, "Life will go on." She said and climbed down from the bed as her mother left. She looked up at the ceiling, "I can still feel his warm, rough hand on my cheek." She said to the ceiling, "Thnak you for giving me a second chance."

I miss you little brother.
