It wasn't that Santos wanted to ignore Wiley, but it was easier to say things once than it was to tell everyone who showed up individually. He simply bowed his head in salute to each of his officers that showed up and friendly smiled to the civilians, though his eyes remained dark and haunted with worry. When there seemed to be a good gather of dogs around him, he stood, rising proudly to his full height so that even the smaller dogs could see him.
"Thank you for coming today," he began, his voice carrying for enough for all to hear. "It never makes me happy to have to call meetings like this, but I appreciate the number that we seem to have here." He paused and looked over the crowd, doing a quick mental count. They had a lot of dogs. "I'm going to cut right to the chase. I have heard word, rumor, of an attack planned on Summerwood. All I know is that we are threatened by a local pack of outcasts, but we have no clues as to which one, but I aim to find out before it happens. I will not let this community crumble under the weight of a malicious pack of strays. If you would like to stay and help our police force handle the situation, we thank you. We need all the help we can get to gather clues. If you would feel safer at home, leave now and stay safe."
He turned and began to separate the vests into pairs, giving those who wanted to leave ample time to vacate the crowd. When he was finished, he sat down to speak to the officers who seemed to have gathered near by. "I need all of my canine officers here to be ready to lead today. You will be grouped into pairs, and each pair will lead an investigative party. As I pair you, please come collect your vests.
"Pita and Kaiden." Kaiden was a good officer, and while he didn't know Pita as well, he trusted the two to do the job well. There was a larger vest for Kaiden, and a smaller lightweight version for Pita.
"Wiley, Boston, and Jacques." Wiley was a cop straight out of the books, hard working and rule-abiding, but for a job like this he needed someone with cunning to make him think outside the box. Boston had an edge to her that the Dane could admire, and hopefully Wiley would too, but just in case, their new officer Jacques would be there to cool any fights.
"Pippin and Kogeta Yuki." Santos knew Kogeta had a temper, but he had all the confidence that level-headed little Pippin would keep the Akita set straight. Like with Pita, Santos had made the effort to lay out a lightweight vest to lighten the burden on Pippin.
"Bisshalten and Specter..... and Basil," he amended, after realizing he had an uneven number of officers. He didn't know any of the three well, but he went with gut instincts on pairing them. Basil was given the last of the lightweight vests.
"Cirrus and Milo." He smiled at the two. Milo was young, and Cirrus was not much older, but Santos was confident that they would make a good team, as long as they worked together.
"And finally, Event Horizon and Vegas." Event, he knew, was lighthearted, but hopefully he would avoid mistakes for the sake of his children, no matter how old they were.
"I'll be grouping myself with Pita and Kaiden to help. There should be two bottles of water carried per team, and each vest also holds a restraining collar just in case. Otherwise, there are the normal bandages and a small ration of food in case something should happen. Your vests are shields, and you are the only dogs wearing them; that means, should it be needed, you should be the first in the line of attack. Protect our volunteers and bring them back here before the sun touches the horizon."
He finally turned to the volunteers again. "If you'll come up in an orderly fashion, I'll assign your teams."Group 1 Thread❥ Pita ❥ Kaiden ❥ Blayze ❥ Hunter ❥ Santos Group 2 Thread❥ Wiley ❥ Boston ❥ Arimik ❥ Sweet Pea ❥ Jacques Group 3 Thread❥ Pippin ❥ Kogeta Yuki ❥ Chuckie ❥ Suchesparen ❥ Doyle Group 4 Thread❥ Bisshalten ❥ Specter ❥ Rostam ❥ Shasta ❥ Basil Group 5 Thread❥ Cirrus ❥ Milo ❥ Slimeball ❥ Macoute ❥ Brook Group 6 Thread❥ Event Horizon ❥ Vegas ❥ Poison ❥ Forget me not Important ❥ Each group only has 2 bottles of water. Event watched the boss closely, this was serious, his body language was so rigid compared to the loosie goosie he was used to seeing. It set Event on edge, a place he hates being. He'd much rather have a laugh but it was clear that wouldn't happen much today.
When he heard his name called he made his way through the crowd, picked up his vest and through it on his back, he'd get one of his team mates to help him strap it on in a minute. He gave a jerked nod to Santos, now wasn't the time to have a chat. He trotted off to the side of the crowd and waited there for Vegas and the others. He eye'd them and made a mental promise to protect them like he would his own. 'No one will get hurt this day' he told himself.

Wiley snapped to attention as Santos began to speak. An attack? On Summerwood? Wiley growled at the thought. So it was something serious. It was a good thing he decided to sacrifice his day off for this. It sounded like the force was going to need all the help they could get. Wiley's heart sunk a little when the pairs were named off. He had been hoping to work with Pippin, or even Santos himself. But duty came before personal preferences. The shepherd went over the team in his mind. Jacques, just his luck, was new. Wiley loved teaching rookies, but the brown pitbull's rookie status concerned him on such a dangerous mission. He didn't know Boston all too well, but she did have a reputation of knowing how to "get things done." Not that Wiley believed she was a dirty cop, but he had a feeling she often cut corners. Good. That would be helpful on a mission like this. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from her. "Boston! Jacques! Let's go!" he called, having already collected their vests and keeping them at his feet. Wiley turned to the Aussie next to him. He could tell she was determined to help, but strays were dangerous dogs. The officer in him just couldn't let her go off on her own. "This could get dangerous, ma'am. Why don't you stay with me and my party?" Wiley offered. He would feel better if the gal stayed where he could supervise her safety.

When he heard the group he was supposed to be in he mentally gagged. Oh, for the love of......Why me, why today, why does fate hate me so much. At least I gained some info for the Boss. If very little of which we didn't already know. If I didn't need the protection I'd just leave and never return, but even I have enemies. Bah, the less I stand out the better. Great just when I thought it couldn't be better I'm with the Akita from earlier, The shepherd that was talking to Santos, A batty Pitt, and a red blur of Aussie. This was crazy, three police dogs, three! How the hell am I supposed to stay undercover now? I guess I'm going to be Ari the house pet for awhile. Damn where the hell did I go wrong today. I should never have gotten out of my cardboard box this morning. But the boss needs the info. He sighs and wanders over to the little group. Arimik smiles up at the Shepherd that was going to take the lead it seemed. "I'd like to help out as much as I can, Sir. I may be a house pet, but I was trained to guard my family." Arimik awaited the response of the Shepherd. He sat down not that far from the expanding little group. If I'm still alive after this I'm not collecting information for the next 2 months.
Milo upon hearing his name practically bounced over to Santos to get his vest. "Thank you Chief, Sir!" Milo saluted Santos then walked towards an empty area where his group would hopefully join him. I can't wait to show The Chief that I can do this. I hope Rostam and the Dark Stranger will be alright. I hope I meet them again. He sat down his tail waging happily behind him. He had already placed his vest on with minimal problems. He tried to spot the dog named Cirrus in the crowd with no luck, He had no idea what Cirrus looked like. I guess I'll have to wait then. Its a good thing my colors stand out amongst the other officers.

Kaiden sat stock straight when Santos told them all the news, his tail quivering. He couldn't believe what he had heard -- he knew strays and outcasts were often malicious and enjoyed playing pranks, but a whole attack on Summerwood? It was the most dog-friendly town he knew and heard of, where dogs were actually respected for what they did. It was the only place that gave those of his kind nearly as much freedom as humans, allowing every individual to choose his or her own career or let their human do so instead, of they so preferred. He himself knew first-hand of this: his status was proof enough. What other city or town or country would allow a dog of his breed to pursue this dream? Huskies were not favorite candidates for police work, and this he knew. The fact that Summerwood had not only accepted his choice, but allowed it, too, made it more than just a home for him. It was a symbol of hope.
He shook his head, nearly disbelieving. He didn't think anyone would want to destroy such a town, much less dogs, but the news had come from Santos himself, a wise, well-respected member of the community who had had his fair share of experiences and must have had real reason to call all of them like this. Despite months and years of self-training, Kaiden was still new to the job itself, and had yet to master the art of concealing his emotions like a seasoned officer would have. Thus, without thinking, he allowed a disdainful snort towards those who had been the cause of this meeting before straining up, his eyes and ears focused on the chief.
When he had finished and some of the crowd began to disperse, Kaiden took advantage of the holes in the crowd to move his way up, reaching the lead police dog just in time as he addressed all of his officers. Without a word, he went to collect his vest when he was called, dipping his head in greeting towards his partner for today.
He moved off to the side to make room for the others, eager to meet the rest of the team and start. Despite the severity of the situation, there was still a small, almost guilty, sense of excitement in the back of his mind, knowing that this would be his first serious work.
And then he heard Santos state his own choice of team.
Brook bit her lip nervously at the news, her eyes darting around as she heard it. It was unexpected, to say the least, to find the town could be threatened so suddenly, and of such magnitude, but... it was not surprising. She herself was one of the strays, even if she did not mingle with most of the crowd, and she knew of and had seen what hatred and pain others were capable of.
For a moment, she considered leaving herself, wishing no part or sacrifice in this battle. But as she stood to depart, the tag of her collar jingled softly, and she was reminded of older days, back when she, too, had loved the town.
It was a while longer before she finally decided to stay and help, despite the risk of her status, and she found herself drawn towards what appeared to be a new officer, a husky of blue-green and bronze, whose cheerful disposition appeared much more welcoming than the somber seriousness of the others.

He chuckled at the pitbull's comment. Once the great dane had started speaking, Slime perked his ears up to pay attention to what was going on. "An attack on the city? Now that's a kind of something I could get into." he thought. "Just how would I find this group to join them though, without getting caught." Before he could finish his thoughts, the great dane had acknowledged him and directed him to a group. Forgetting about the other two dogs who were left in the alley, he moved over to where the dane had directed him.
Ignoring the threat that the pitbull gave, Poison started after Slime but was stopped by another dog telling him to go over and join a different group of dogs. He wasn't quite sure what he was doing, but did as he was told, especially since there were so many cop dogs around. He hadn't heard all of the dane's speech, but did hear the part about outcasts attacking the city. He wondered if that was what Slime was doing here? Had he been part of it and not told him? Poison was confused and a little angry. He sat near the group he was designated and thumped his tail in frustration.

Blayze watched with patience as Santos gave the vests out to the officers. She was surprised with the news that there was a planned attack on Summerwood but she kept her cool. After all Santos had a plan to keep the attack from happening or at least keep it minimal. She grinned when Kaiden got called up to get his vest. So that little pup she had met so long ago did manage to make the force. She got up when Santos told the volunteers their groups. "Why hello there Kaiden! Been quite some time since I last saw you." She said walking over to him, "Seems I ended up getting a good group if I already know someone."
Doyle was quite shocked to hear of the attack. He hadn't heard anything about it but then again he didn't keep up with the stray packs. He nearly snorted when he saw what group he would be in. A little dog like that was a police officer? He shook his head as he looked at Pippin but walked over to the group. "This shall be interesting. Shall we go to our area?"

Boston was pretty pleased when she heard her assignment. "How 'bout that, Stripes? You're with me- and some of the best paws on the force." She flicked an ear and dipped her head towards Wiley in respect and smiled friendlily at Jacques. The shepherd's work was well-known, and while the pit bull was new, everybody was a rookie once. She was sure that a dog as well-built as him would be fine in a fight. Two volunteers, three cops? Now those were some good odds. "I'm ready when y'all are, gang. Red, Stripes- I'm Boston, and I know I speak for the other officers when I tell you how glad we are to have y'all along." Turning to the other officers, she cocked her head. "So, how do we want to divvy up the water load? I'm plenty willing to take a bottle if y'all want."
Pippin didn't know the fiery Akita officer he was paired with, but he was sure that the larger dog would be a fine partner. Slipping into his vest, he nodded at the Akita and then turned to face the group's volunteers. As for them... well, he wasn't sure. A lab, a doberman, and a pit. All looked as though they'd be a good paw in a fight, but he had no idea about their temperaments or what they were trained to do. The lab was the first to speak to him. He recognized the look on the dog's face, but shrugged it off. Most dogs didn't immediately respect him as an officer. But once they saw him in action... well. That changed. Quickly. "Hold up just a second, friend. Let's wait on the rest of the group. We've got two more volunteers and another officer to join us." As they assembled*, he greeted them as professionally as possible. "All right, recruits! The Summerwood police force would like to thank you for your efforts today. I'm Officer Pippin, and Officer Kogeta Yuki and I are here to protect you. And now you know who I am, I think before we head out, we ought to get to know each other a little better. It would be nice to know at least your names and what you do."
*[Not trying to godmod or anything; I'm assuming they'd assemble before heading out.]

Kogeta Yuki snorted at Pippin's already domination over the group, slowly nodding in approval. Glancing at each of his members with a firey gaze he barked, "I'm Officer Kogeta Yuki, but you may all call me Officer Yuki if you'd like to." He rephrased his partner's words, "Officer Pippin and I are here for your safety and I appreciate you all coming out here today."

"It'd be an honor working with you, sir," Kaiden said honestly towards the large white great dane, ears angling back lightly in silent respect. Before he could continue, he heard a familiar voice heralding the presence of an old friend, and he turned to see Blayze approach. He hadn't seen her for a long time, but he hadn't forgotten her, or the lessons she gave him that first day.
"Blazye," he greeted warmly, remembering the day they had met. He had only been a pup then, and it was hard to believe how much time had passed since. Now the heavy weight along his back, more welcome than burden, showed his success. He would have even wagged his tail wildly at the reunion were the situation not so dire.
"Seems so," he replied with a raised brow and a smile, playing the part of the overconfident pup he had once been to hopefully ease some tension before they began. While it was important to be wary and on the alert, it was important, too, to not be too wound up.
He was curious about her, about what she had done since their last meeting, and whether she reached her goal as he was beginning to do. He wondered about how she had grown, and what she did now, and about many things, but not wasn't the time, and he silenced his words.
((Note: I'll be at school for most of tomorrow. If necessary, feel free to presume Kaiden / Brook follows their teammates around to their designated area. ovo I've no preference on how it's chosen who gets to hold the bottles and such so long as it's not Hunter if that helps any.))

Wiley's smile faltered a little bit at the Doberman's request. He looked the dog over carefully. He certainly looked like he could hold his own in a fight. But house pet? He seemed a little too...scruffy for a house pet. Then again, some guard dogs exclusively lived outside...mind made up, Wiley breathed an inward sigh of relief. "Boston's right, your help is much appreciated." The Sheperd dipped his head in respect to the volunteer. "The department needs all the able paws it can get right now. Officer Wileus E. Scott." He introduced himself and turned to Boston. "Sounds good. I'll take the other bottle." Wiley slipped into his vest and used his mouth to place a water bottle in one of the pockets. "Boston, Jacques, vest up. We've been assigned to the eastern side of town, where the abandoned warehouses are. Once you two get your vests one, we'll head on out."
PIPPIN'S GROUP: Due to Chuckie's nature and the fact he's a wanted criminal, Chuckie WILL NOT be investigating with the group. Rather, he will be stalking you guys and watching from a distance, maybe rough you guys up. Don't wait for him to join you.

Vegas narrowed his eyes at the news of a potential attack on Summerwood. He had dealt with situations like this in the past but he couldn't imagine why the strays around these parts would want to attempt something like this. Summerwood was a great place to live and for the most part even the strays were taken care of. A frown crossed his features as his mind raced for possible answers but was wiped away as his group was assigned and he made his way up to the vest that had been laid out for him.
He managed to get it on and secured it before he picked up the bottles of water and slipped them into his vest, one on each side before he moved over to where his group was waiting. "Alright then, looks like we're just waiting for one more before we head out. Santos assigned us to the southern half of the neighborhood, the dogs there don't really care too much for us cops so we'll have to keep our eyes and ears alert for anything that could help us.
Rostam's ears perked at the news of a pack of strays planning an attack on Summerwood. He hadn't heard about it until just now but his mind instantly supplied images of a few strays he could imagine coming up with the idea. Hearing that his group would be checking out the northern end of the neighborhood he felt a little more at ease, at least he was familiar with the area. He looked around and couldn't see any of the dogs he was supposed to be grouped with, for a moment he wondered if they had already left without him but then he noticed there were still vests laying on the ground and he moved towards them before sitting down to wait.

Biss bolted into the crowd. They were late, late late! He skidded to a halt near the other officers, panting heavily. It was with gratefulness that he learned they'd arrived just in time to hear the announcement. They'd had a hard time getting away from home today, as their owner had insisted on baths today. He normally despised them and tended to be very twitchy about cooperating, but he'd had to fight that instinct today. Even so, it had taken too long to wash both large dogs, and now he smelled like... strawberries? How embarrassing!
He stepped up when his name was called, got his vest, and assembled with his team. He didn't know them, but trusted each and every officer to be capable and willing to do what was needed. It was with regret that he watched his mate be assigned to a separate group, but he accepted it and moved on. This was serious business. With a nod to each team member, he moved off with them to begin the search.Suche loped up behind Biss, ears pinned back at being so late. It was not in her nature to delay due to something and frivolous as a bath, but it couldn't be helped. Humans didn't always understand the need to go sometimes! She loved them anyway, though, and had endured her bath with decorum. It never hurt to be clean, even if one knew it was possible that getting dirty was on the docket.
She parted with her mate and sat with the others to listen attentively. She forwned at the idea that the city was in danger. A glance at Biss reassured her that not only he, but all the other officers would be determined to deal with this. Not only that, but it seemed this time she and others like her would be of use this time! The doberman's ears pricked once more in excitement, not minding being in a different group than Biss. Her heart was with him no matter where he went. So long as she was with others who would keep her safe. Little did she realize, the group she was put into was targeted for trouble. Obediently she trotted off with her assigned group, long legs prancing and her stub of a tail wagging madly.

Specter eyed the other dogs cautiously with his pale eyes suspiciously. There were dogs around that defiantly didn't look like they wanted to 'help' the situation. As Santos gave out the assignments, he stepped forward to receive his vest before turning to Bisshalten. "So, shall we get started?" Giving a nod to his team mate before moving off[/color]

Event looked to the purple, green and white French Spaniel the come over a sat down. He didn't seem like he want to be here or maybe he was nervous, either way Event tried to clam him and get to know him. "Ello there laddie, what made you come here today? Oh and if you wouldn't mind." He gestured to the strap of velcro that hung undone at his side. "Names Event Horizon, but you could call me Event."
When Vegas came over event shook his head, 'All business, what does he expect from these green horns with out getting to know them first.' He turn to the French Spaniel again and spoke cheerfully. "No worries mate, we'll keep you safe and if you ever feel scared or that this is too much just tell us and we'll get you back here in a jiffy." He cocked a smile.
Event looked about, no one else was joining them, it was just them three. Santos either had a lot of faith in them or some dogs turn back. Either way Event was happy about this, just two other to watch and make sure they stay safe, the south close to the port was not the nicest of places. Event raised his head and glanced to Vegas, "I believe this is it. We should go."
