Staff Members  Hello I'm Rosie I'm the one in charge of the day to day running of our little Newsletter. (Managing Editor) I'm here because i opened my big mouth and promptly inserted my foot... and i couldn't be happier!! I'm a writer by heart and i love the idea of keeping everyone in touch with whats going on here. You can usually find me running some of the Contests in the Contests Forum or in Chit Chat just floating about LOL if ya need to talk go ahead and knock on my door and come on in its, always open for friends Hello there--I'm Retro! I'm the official guild contest news reporter! My job is to let you know about all our guild contests, and winners. I'll provide links for ya, and make sure you're excited about our upcoming contests! August ...............5th Issue  Sorry for this being so late everyone ... being sick SUCKS!! LOL
Ok, on to the good stuff:
First off, Retro and I have been talking and we would like to give those of you who can, the opportunity to design a new Graphic for our opening page to replace the current one with the ice cream cone. Now I'm not saying it's not a great graphic, but we want to give us a new updated look... SOOOO there are no limits except what the pixel size is allowed to be ... (I dont know what that size is, but we can always re-size it with Photobucket). This is a graphic that I would like to be able to use in future events as a... Logo of sorts, so keep that in mind. LOL all entries must be submitted to Metals_Mule no later than .... August 31st, then we will begin Voting.
I would like to add that there is a Prize available for the winner ... I'm not sure what it will be at this time but ... it will be good smile Second ... For those of you who are not aware (and umm who isn't??), August 8th is the start of the Beijing Olympics!! YAY!! And I thought that would be a great opportunity to have a ... AVI CONTEST!! It's tek tek of course, because who of us can afford to buy all the cool stuff we want, LOL!
There are 3 categories
1. Athlete :
Maximum amount allowed to spend including any ticket items is 80k, so keep that in mind.. if you go over it you will be asked to change your avi. You may represent any SUMMER OLYMPICS sport you can replicate from the gaia inventory. (Remember people, they don't get the endorsement deals until AFTER they win LOL)!
2. Tourist:
Maximum... no max, a tourist can have any income- but remember, tourists don't carry weapons but they do usually carry cameras.
3. National:
Well it is being held in China so there are bound to be some people who are wearing traditional garb... or not... use your imagination here but again, remember, weapons are frowned upon by the local security- LOL!
You may submit once in each category and vote once in each category. When the winner ( only one) from each category has been decided, then the three winners will go into a final vote for..... GOLD SILVER and BRONZE metals!!
(Again I'm not sure what the prize will be for these winners, but it will be nice )
There is no Fee for this contest!! The Olympics are free to enter wink  We have six birthdays coming up this month!

First and Foremost I would like to remind everyone that the Gifting event is going on >>> HERE!! so come check it out please. This Event also includes a TEKTEK contest that is listed on the first page of the event!! Its got some GREAT prizes!! Ok well as many of you should know if you read my Pm's that I inundated you with for the last two weeks I am now Captain of TGGoA and CoolRetroGal is Co Captain, and we have been busy re arranging a few things in the guild to hopefully make it an easier and more enjoyable place to come too, so please check it out!! From now on we will be Keeping the important news in the first section Anouncements we will be keeping it up to date with any pertinent information for everyone so they don't have to go looking through the Forums. Retro is also working on a NEW IMPROVED Welcome Center That she says she hopes to have up and running by the end of the event. So keep a lookout for that!!

OK PEOPLE! We have a few things going on with the guild that we need to address and since this is a Democracy, we all need to decide what is to be done. Please post them in the Feedback Forum, or if you wish to keep your ideas private, you may PM me and we can discuss them. You may wonder why I am doing this, it is because I do not want to see our guild Die, and unfortunately the posting count is way down and many members have decided it is not worth it. This makes me very sad so I decided I would "take it to the people" and see what everyone thought.
1. Metal has disappeared and had not responded to any of our e-mails in 2 months... what I want to know is how everyone would feel if I offered to buy the guild from him? Is that ok with you? Do you have a problem with it? Please say whatever you think. That is why I am putting this out like this.
2. The guild had become a bit cluttered lately and it needs to be uncluttered, if there are any threads that you personally DO NOT want deleted or moved please inform Coolretrogal
3. Nvr has suggested that we have a permanent thread for our guild where we hold all events and a place to talk in between events. What is your opinion on this? Do you agree? Disagree? Have any ideas?? Retro suggested that with having a permanent thread people would be more apt to come and check back often to see if we are having an event. Plus we would get new members from new people coming in during the time between events. Please contact
Nvr to discuss any ideas you may have concerning this thread.
4. We have a few members who have NEVER posted in the guild or those who have posted very little (1-10 posts)- and we would like to know if you still would like to be part of this guild? We do not want to just randomly delete anyone, so if you wish to no longer be a member please let us know. smile Or if the opposite is true and you would like to remain a member, again please let us know........ either way, if we have received no indication that you wish to continue your membership, we will be deleting your membership July 1st.

It is estimated that around 4 million Americans have been infected with hepatitis C,
of whom 2.7 million have chronic infections. Each year,
it is estimated that there are 36,000 new infections in the United States,
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Of those new infections,
only 25 to 30 percent will have symptoms.
That means many people will become infected with hepatitis C and not know it right away.
Someone very important to me has Hepatitis C and that is why I am questing the daffodils.

Interview by Lavian Oceania Lavian: Let's start with the basics, shall we? How did you get to be involved with the GGoA guild?
Rose: Hmm, well I kinda fell into it. I found the Elving thread by accident when I was looking for someplace interesting to talk. At first I didn't even bother to read the rules, I just started talking, and someone gave me a gift. It surprised me, So I went and read the first page and then I knew what it was about, and so I jumped in with every scrap of gold I had. I was broke by the time the event was over but I was happy. I had made some amazing friends. Towards the end of the event we started talking how we didn't want to stop talking to each other, and that we should start a gifting guild. The next thing I know I'm getting invited into TGGoA, LOL. And I'm very happy I joined.
Lavian: You're in charge of the GGoA's newsletter, right? What was your inspiration behind it?
Rose: The newsletter... well actually, it came out of my need to inform everyone of the contest I had going on. Yep, purely selfish reasons. I really wanted people in my contest!! But then once I started putting it together I found more and more things to put into it that I thought people would like to know. Birthdays, Gaia anniversarys, and things going on around the guild, and it steamrollered from there. After the first issue came out I got lots of compliments and thank you's for the information. Once I got permission from Metal to do the NL on a monthly basis, I had a few people asking to be part of it, and well that's how our current NL was born.
Lavian: I don't think it's really selfish to advertise btw. It was a rather brilliant idea actually.
So now that we have the more common questions behind us, I have to ask; What are your hobbies? Do you have any quirky hobbies that the people in the GGoA guild don't know about?
Rose: Well I'm not sure about quirky, but I am an avid crafts person, and I totally love to do Counted Cross Stitch and Polymer clay and Crochet. I'm also a writer- I'm currently working on a Sci fi fantasy novel (I have 3 chap). I doubt I will ever find it good enough to try and publish it, but hey I don't write for that reason, I write because I like to. I also write poetry, and I have put some in the guild's poetry section. Oh ya and I'm a bibliophile. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE books. I used to keep track of the books I've read, but I stopped that when I was 17 and had read about 2k. And since then my reading speed, comprehension and retention has only increased. It takes me about an hour to read a 200 page book.
Lavian: Do you have a favorite book?
Rose: A favorite book is hard to choose because well, I like a lot of them, but if you base my reply on the book I have had to replace the most due to it coming apart , it would be "Restoree" by Anne McCaffery. I've had to replace it 5 times. It's got romance, adventure, suspense, alien monsters, evil... just everything.
Lavian: Aliens OwO! *almost drops her reporter's notebook* Th-those things are pretty creepy. Seems like a very interesting book though.
Lavian: So out of curiosity, do you have any plans or goals that you wish for the GGoA NL to archive?
Rose: Plans? Well not really, I'm just flying by the seat of my pants so far. Not for the NL anyway for me personally. Well I'm going to go back to school over the next year, not sure what I'm going to study yet. But... I'm going to do something and I'm also going to lose weight, I weigh... too much. Over the next year that also will change . For the last 22 years I have lived my life for my family, and with the loss of my mother, well for the first time in a long time I can actually make plans for ME- it's kind of frighting but also exciting. I've also had 2 invites to come visit people when my year is up, so who knows. For me now life is just full of so many possibilities.
Lavian: That's a really good goal though. It's always important to take some time out to do something for yourself, that way life isn't all work and no fun time.
Lavian: Final question: Do you have any words or advice you'd like to share with the rest of the GGoA guild?
Rose: Advice... just have fun!! That's what we're all here for. Don't take things to seriously, that's the quickest way to disappointment and pain. Ya only get one life at a time- ENJOY IT. Tektek! Now this first topic is on the true Irish Pirate Queen. The woman who is my heroine and inspiration for my username.Grace O’Malley
Grainne Ni Mhaille or Grace O’Malley is a woman portrayed in history as the ‘Pirate
Queen of Connacht’ and Chieftain of the O’Malley Clan of Ireland. Grace was born in 1530 and lived with her family in the area of Clare Island, Ireland. Even at a young age, Grace yearned for the sea and in a rebellious act against her father she cut off her long hair so she could go with him on trading expeditions.Upon returning
from a expedition her fathers ship was attacked by English Pirates. Grace hid in the rigging and ended up saving her father’s life and the ship.At age 15 Grace wed Donal O’Flaherty and bore three children. Donal died and Grace became a widow; her in-laws did not follow Irish law and Grace received none of her deceased husband’s estate. She returned to her family’s clan and recruited 200 loyal men under her command Eventually Grace took a political move to obtain power over Clew bay and married a second time to Richard Burke, in agreement to divorce after one years time. Grace bore one son during the one year and when the time came they stayed together till Richard died 17 years later 1583. In 1574 Grace was so powerful that the English laid seize to Rockfleet Castle were she lived. Grace had turned it around in a surprise attack and the English retreated. But two years later Grace was forced to give ‘lip-service loyalty’ to the crown of England. In 1577 Grace was imprisoned in Dublin Castle by Lord Justice Drury. Somehow Grace was able to escape, though not by breaking from prison but by political means.In 1584 the governor of Connaught died and was replaced by one Sir Richard Bingham, who would prove to be Grace’s mortal enemy. Bingham captured Grace and prepared to have her executed, but her son-in-law bargained with him and Grace was released.After a number of years Grace became fed up with Bingham’s tyranny and began writing letters to the queen of England, Elizabeth I. Awhile later Grace received a letter from Elizabeth that held 18 questions which Grace answered. But Grace was not satisfied, she traveled to Greenwich and met with Elizabeth. No one knows what was said but in the end Elizabeth ordered Bingham to release Grace’s son and land. Granuaile died in 1603, her resting place at Rockfleet Castle where she lived most of her 65 years. Though Grace had her trials in life she lived well and did what she loved most, sailed the sea. The Pirate Queen is an important figure in Irish Legend but is a larger than life figure from the 16th century.

I'm nearly 18 and Im a bit afraid of turning that big number. Last year turning 17 seemed like such a huge leap from 16... when you were in the same area of life as I am now how did you feel about it? Were you scared like myself? Excited? Or indifferent? Some times I wish I could sprinkle pixie dust on myself and fly to Neverland... is this normal?

Of course that is normal. I think I experienced every one of those emotions, and probably more! Personally I am heading for Neverland as soon as my pixie dust gets here. Also normal is the urge to tell people you are an adult now, and "you can't tell me what to do anymore". Keep in mind, that is not true :p For one thing, presumably you still need your parents for support financially as well as emotionally. But you are in luck, you are not a baby bird!! I doubt they will be pushing you out of the nest the day after your birthday :d You can make a smooth easy transition to adult responsibilities.

Dear Disturbed,
It could have been anything, from a sneaky person, to an animal, to you thinking you saw something out of the corner of your eye. Could it have been a ghost? Well if you believe in ghosts, then I suppose so, but even if you believe in ghosts it is more likely that there is an explainable cause. If it happens again call the police, and have them check around. If there is a peeping Tom, maybe that will deter them.

There are many, many fun things to do on Gaia. If you are in a guild or two, they usually have fun things to do and friends to talk to. If there is nothing exciting going on in your guild, start something!! A game, a contest, anything. You could PM a friend and go do puzzles or go fishing. Browsing the forums can prove interesting, but I usually end up frustrated, people aren't always nice there. Don't despair, just when you think there is nothing to do, a bunch of friends ask you to d things or you end up with guild responsibilities and find there isn't enough time in the day!

April 1st issue April 1st ...............1st Official IssueLetter From the President  Hey there, my dear guild!
I honestly don't know what to write. Rosey asked me as a guild captain to send her a few lines about the guild, the members, the events... But what do you write about our guild? We're still small, we're still a sworn circle and we still keep our guild active. Some people lost interest, some people joined without ever posting once. Some people spend their life in it, some blossomed during the events.
But we all still have something in common. We love to gift people and enjoy each other's company.
I love to think about our hard work. We managed to set up a great Cupiding Event, our Easter Giving is a big success... Our guild has grown with time, we added subforums, started contests, played games...
But also in hard times we stood together.
Angelbasket's husband and Marimbagirl's father is very ill - and we still managed to make both smile. Rosey's mother died... and still, we gave Rosey the biggest virtual hug there is.
Life is not always a joyful place - But the most important thing is friendship, love and laughter. I don't know what the future will bring. Maybe our guild dies before its first birthday. Maybe Gaia will go bankrupt! Who knows...
But one thing I know for certain: We all will try our best to stick together and to make each other and others smile. And this is the reason I want to say: Thank you all.

Well, I get home from vacation and I find a letter from none other than the Easter Bunny himself. He's decided to reward me with a little gift. It turns out that this gift happens to be a "Clock Egg". I spend all day speculating on what this egg might do or be. As it gets later I think to myself "Well, there isn't very much Easter left. When will they start this grand event we were promised?" Finally at midnight I decide it's time for me to go to bed.
March 24: The Day After
This morning I wake up to see that nothing has changed. I still have the egg in my inventory, and nothing has happened. I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering. Have they forgotten us? Do they think it's amusing to leave us hanging like this? And where, oh where, is this grand event we were promised? Sorry Gaia, but I for one don't enjoy being disappointed.
-SnorpyApril 1st....... and what does it turn out to be?? a stupid cloud of fire and smoke..... well my faith in Gaia has been sadly let down... honestly I thought they would have come up with something much better. *sigh* goes to show never trust and egg with a timer in it.

Three hicks were working on a telephone tower - Steve, Bruce and Jed. Steve falls off and is killed instantly.
As the ambulance takes the body away, Bruce says, "Someone should go and tell his wife."
Jed says, "OK, I'm pretty good at that sensitive stuff, I'll do it."
Two hours later, he comes back carrying a case of beer.
Bruce says, "Where did you get that, Jed?"
"Steve's wife gave it to me," Jed replies.
"That's unbelievable, you told the lady her husband was dead and she gave you beer?"
Well, not exactly", Jed says. "When she answered the door, I said to her, 'You must be Steve's widow'."
She said, "No, I'm not a widow!"

Yankton, South Dakota: A woman was arrested at her step son's Boy Scout meeting. While watching a policeman demonstrate his drug dog's ability, the dog found a bag of grass in her purse.
Colorado Springs: A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf. He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but he refused and said "Because I don't believe you are over 21." The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because he didn't believe him. At this point the robber took his drivers license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk. The clerk looked it over, and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and he put the scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot. The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that he got off the license. They arrested the robber two hours later.Member Of The Month

1. So what made you decide to join Gaia Online? Have you been a member of the site long?
Well, I joined Gaia a long time ago (I never mention any dates wink ) and never have been on hiatus yet. ^_^ I actually got begged by a female friend to join Gaia. mrgreen She was very scared of having a mule and wanted to give me her unwanted items. So the whole while I stayed absolutely silent, used no forum, no chat, no profile messages... I was a silent mule. wink
But slowly I got caught by Gaia. I started earning gold, played games... but like I promised my friend, I stayed a good lil mule and never posted. One day, my friend gave up Gaia and left me all her items. I was quite surprised and then started playing for real. I posted, I chatted - and I'm still here. :biggrin:
2. How did you get involved with Gifting, and what was the inspiration for the name of your guild?
Oh, I got a gift- i mrgreen I got a mimzy and was intrigued. Why should someone anonymously send me a gift? I actually was quite scared to look up the link with all the hacking/scamming around. xd
But then I looked up the "Elving" with help of the search function of the forum and fully joined. <3 After the event, it was clear. We couldn't just leave each other alone! There were so many great friends I won and I simply didn't want to let go!
So, I didn't have much time and bought the guild.
As for the name: Of course it needed to have to do something with gifting. And cuz I found so many friends there, I named it after the most important thing of the event - The greatest gift of all, the friendship. wink
3. I take it from your screen name that you like the Dragon Quest video game series. Do you play any other games?
Ahhh, you got me there! I'm a huuuge fan of videogames. I'm quite a nerd to be honest. I started with the N64, bought the Supernintendo, the Virtualboy, the Gamecube, PSone, XBox, PS2, Dreamcast... And I still own them all. xd
But as for my favorites: I love roleplays and jump'n'runs. heart
I still can play Dragon Quest VIII or Mario & Luigi on the Gameboy SP for hours. mrgreen
4. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
would love to become an english teacher in Japan. ^___^ I always wanted to teach people and combine that with my favorite country in the world (SUSHI!) = We've got a deal! mrgreen
5. Do you have a favorite style of music?
My favorite music actually is punk and metal. I love Billy Talent, German punk music, and Metallica. <3
6. Do you have any words you'd like to share with your fellow guild members?

How do you pick people to give gifts to, and how do you pick what to give them?

Choosing who to gift is the first thing you have to decide when gifting. Who you choose depends on what you wish to accomplish by gifting, other than just the joy of giving of course. If you want to try to bring more people to the gifting event, then go to the forums and choose random people. This doesn't always work. Some show up and check it out, some don't. If it is important to you to see the excitement and joy you have spread, then maybe choose a regular in the thread. You also have friends on your friend list who may not have heard of our event, so by all means gift to them! Picking gifts for people is up to each individual. Many choose a gift from a persons wish list. If there is no wish list, or all the wish list items require a major credit card to purchase, you can just pick a random gift. I like to send flowers to girls, and maybe a cane or hat to guys if they don't have a choice that I can afford. The point is not what you can give, but the giving itself. It is so much fun to find a present in your inventory just because, and knowing you have made that happen for someone is what it is all about. Remember to check the anonymous box! LOL.
