GIVEN TASK/QUEST

You've been feeling adventurous today, either from the nice weather that Soul Society has been going through, or everyone having their own little tale of something they did that day. You decide to go out and do something exciting but while doing so, something stops you. You find your favorite dish back when you were human and are craving for it. But that's impossible, right? Spirits aren't supposed to feel hunger!

Yoko is a bit of a loose cannon who likes having fun. She gambles on instinct, drinks booze as if it were water, and still remembers how to liberate items from their previous owners like she did in her previous life. Yoko never thinks of herself as 'dead' although she understands the reality. She thinks that now she can live in a different way than before. After all, this ain't no Davey Jones.

The Good Eye

Thing about pirate ships is that even with the best of lanterns, the underbelly, and in fact most of stuff not on deck while the sun is shinning, is still pretty dark. So dark in fact that, in contrast with the bright deck, a sailor could get himself blinded entering into the belly unprepared.

So when you see a pirate sporting good eye patch, do not think of how he be crippled. Think of how he be wise. This man, with a swift change of the patch to the eye that was adjusted to the bright deck, will find himself already adjusted to the dim light of the belly with the eye that was encased in darkness.

This trick saved a great many from their deaths, but couldn't save Yoko...

The Bad Eye

The day I died.... it isn't something most people like remembering. The pain, the agony, the numb. Your body feels heavy, and you feel light, and at that moment you realize that all the nonsense spouted about souls and the afterlife may acctually have been true. It isn't something many remember.

There are many spirits I have met here that have been here so long that they have forgotten their real selves, the them from before. It is joked about that this is the real life, and that 'living' was really a blink of time that doesn't matter.

I disagree. I think I am who I am because of how I lived before I died.

But then again, I don't like recalling that day.

It was a nice day, we had left port a couple of days ago and were well out to sea. We were en route to meet up with a few other ships for a major seize, and we were drunk with anticipation.

A Pirates life isn't glorious, it isn't flashy, it isn't romantic. But it sure was fun. There wasn't a day we were bored. We trained in our weapons, joked, played, drank. It was a good time. We were dirt poor. We starved, we fought to live, but there wasn't a man or woman aboard who would trade our adventures for the world.

And I was first mate.

The day was a good one. Bright and blue and the sea was gorgeous.

"Oy, we got a situation cap'in" one of the men called up. I had looked at the captain for a signal.

He waved.

I was to handle it. However before I left he removed his eye patch and handed it over to me, "Put it on your good eye." He told me.

"I'll be fine." I gave him the patch back, "Keep it on your eye."

He nodded and I turned to go to where the commotion was. The men pointed to the entrance to the galley, "Itsa locked." they explained.

"Stand back." I ordered, moving in front of them.

"Come out!" I shouted into the dark, I couldn't see.

There was a bang.

"All hands!" I shouted, but it was too late, another bang and I felt a pressure on my chest.

It was almost like I was drowning.

I couldn't move.

If I had been able to see him, maybe I could hand dodged. I regret never taking the captains patch even now.

No one likes remembering the day they died, but we can learn much from it I think. For instance, even though I am dead and in this society, I wear an eye patch.

Neither of my eyes are bad, but I don't want to know if a spirit can die.

The Quest for Brisket
Hunger Quest RP

Quote:
You've been feeling adventurous today, either from the nice weather that Soul Society has been going through, or everyone having their own little tale of something they did that day. You decide to go out and do something exciting but while doing so, something stops you. You find your favorite dish back when you were human and are craving for it. But that's impossible, right? Spirits aren't supposed to feel hunger!

Yoko smiled up at the crisp blue sky of Soul Society. It was almost as beautiful as the sky on the ocean, but far more static. She took in a nice deep breath and savored the air, its taste, its smell, its just perfect temperature. Today was a day for something good to happen. Yoko just knew it.

She hummed to herself as she briskly marched into town with little concern for her kimono garb. What she really needed was a good pair of breeches and a loose chemise to freely move around in. But the style of choice in the afterlife was a kimono type garb.

But today wasn't a day to contemplate a wardrobe, oh no! Today was a day for adventuring. Yoko smirked as she neared the city center.

Step one: Gather Intel on super interesting things that can be found.

Grinning maniacally Yoko made her way over to the Tavern Inn. The most social center of the town with the most movement of people both local and traveling was always the Tavern Inn. This was a fact, dead or alive.

"Mornin' pops!" Yoko greeted the Inn-keep as she walked in. The grinning man laughed and immediately began pouring Yoko her usual.

"Child, you may be dead and all but you drink more than even a dead person should!" He chided Yoko while sliding the glass to where she had perched at the bar.

"Come on now, we're dead! Plus having a drink is good for you, clears out all the bad junk!" Yoko laughed and began to drink her glass down. The inn-keep was a good guy, just a bit too fatherly.

As she sipped her glass, she savored the cold touch of the glass that was freshly chilled with the cold alcohol. The contrast between the cold of the drink and the warmth it brought to her body was a nice one that she enjoyed. She loved her drink, but she most especially loved it when she was able to have salted meat with it.

As Yoko contemplated her previous eating habits, something strange happened. She felt her stomach twitch, a well known feeling, common for a pirate, but something she thought she had left back in life. After all, the dead don't eat to satisfy, they eat to reminisce.

"Hey pops." She called over, "You've been dead a while right?"

"Yeah sure," He responded idly as he took a rag to a glass he had just cleaned to dry it, "What about it?"

"Well, since you've been dead a while you know that spirits don't get hungry... so why do you run a place that serves food... why do we even make food?" Yoko asked as she looked into her glass. There had to be an explanation... maybe it was an echo of life... kinda like when pirates lost their legs they would swear up and down that they could still move their non existent toes.

"Well," he chuckled, "folks like you come in here and want things that while you don't need them, you still want them. Tastes and textures still feel good in our mouths even if they do us no actual good." He explained simply.

"Makes sense." Yoko agreed and sipped more of her drink, she giggled, "I wonder what would happen if a spirit got hungry," she mused nonchalantly. This was perhaps the most important question, but Yoko knew better than to draw attention to herself. It was like asking where most of the goods were on a ship you had no business on. It screamed that you were wrong and brought people who wanted you dead or chained down on you.

"Oh that happens occasionally." The inn-keep informed her, as if it was perfectly normal.

"Really?" Yoko looked over.

"Oh yeah, but those are some strange folks that get hungry. They usually don't stick around very long, are gone within days usually." He explained as he stacked up the glasses he would use that day in an easy to reach location. "But yea know there are some of them that are just faking it."

"Faking? How can you fake hunger?" Yoko asked as she swirled her drink.

"Easy," He laughed and put down his rag before going over to where Yoko was sitting, "Hunger is really all in ya head you know?" He leaned over and tapped his head, "Its just a sensation, and so you can trick your body into thinking your hungry, without actually being hungry." he explained.

Yoko smiled, "I guess if you want to be alive that badly, it would only make sense to try at least." she joked back. He confirmed her suspicions, this was just her imagination. All that thinking about salted meat had carried her away and tricked herself into thinking she actually was hungry.

She finished her Drink and slammed the glass on the table, "Well thanks for the talk, but I'm out to find an adventure today." She informed him as he took her glass and wiped down the bar where she had sat.

"Don't be gettin' hungry now!" he called back in good humor.

Yoko really liked that guy.

A quietness stirs with the coming of Yoko to Soul Society. However for the moment it is only a stir.
