I did not think that I would necessarily need one for university because there are computer laboratories everywhere. You can use them for free there and pay a small fee to print (like five cents a page or something). So I did not buy a printer over the summer for this.

But now that I have finished about a week of classes, I see that a printer is necessary. Not because of all the papers and homework, because that is less than 100 pages a semester. However, I did not consider that many professors use database articles for reading materials. Every day I find myself needing to print 40 or so pages off of online periodicals (unless you prefer photocopying them off of the hard copies!) and I cannot spend so long in the computer labs.

So I have to buy a printer. I am going to have to spend more on paper than I would have on books! I do not think professors are doing us favours with these dozens of journal resources, but most textbooks are narrow in scope anyway.

So yes, I am a nerd because I am talking about printing scholarly articles in my Gaia weblog. I think I need to go lie down for a while now...
