We're leaving tomorrow! Say good bye to my internet connection! For now, at least.
Yesterday, we saw the Calrsbad Caverns. I took a ton of pictures, but you really just need to see for yourself. There's no way to describe the echoing footsteps and hushed whispers, the muted squeaks of the bats and the soft dripping of water as it flows, changing the caves, insuring they'll never be the same twice. There's just no way to communicate in pictures the foggy grayness of the lighting, the way the air smells, the crunch of stone under your feet, and the cold, wet surprisingly pleasant climate. You'll just have to see that for yourselves.
But I do have some pictures. You see, Tyler, Patrick, and I did something really stupid. We stepped off the trail.
Then we fell in a previously unknown hole in the floor. This is the view from the bottom:
And we were REALLY grateful for the ladder.
Ok, fine, I'm kidding, we didn't do any of that. Tyler posed for the Do Not Enter picture, and the one of him being sacrificed.
Here's one of the awesome cave formations, though:
Then we stayed after dark to watch the bats stream out of the cave entrance and into the night sky. That was really awesome.
We adopted a bat. His name is Smuckers. (Don't ask. Tyler named him.)
And today, we went back for a guided tour to see the King's Palace and the Queen's Chamber. They were pretty cool too. Plus, we walked down the natural entrance today, and that was about an extra mile or two of cave.
That would be an awesome place to play Hide and Seek.
Even if it does smell like bat gauno.
Oh yeah, and Tyler got attacked by a bunny yesterday. He actualy has cuts, and two of them look like tooth marks. We decided it was a vampire bunny, and now he is, too. Aviod him in nighttime hours.
