(If the following information is not entirely sufficient to increase your understanding of this game, contact myself, Starlurk (the breeding and quest boss), or __penguin__ (the bank leader). Also, bear with me -- this is the first thing I've done on Gaia, so I'm just gettin' used to this whole she-bang. Thanks! To the intro...)

Hello and welcome to Battle Forest, a forum-based game of monster raising and battling.

Inspirations for the game came from Dragon Warrior Monsters, Pokemon, and much much more, including our mind.

You'll want to start your career at a thread titled "New Members Click Here First!". There, you will be able to choose from six beginner monsters (and receive a starting purse of 100 points) ... select wisely and you and your monster will ascend to the elite of the Battle Forest.

But, don't expect to go it alone -- accompanying yourself and the monster you choose will be a party of monsters that you will later capture along the way. You can have as many monsters as you're able to capture ... but only four may be in your battling troupe at any given time.

(Those that aren't, like Pokemon, will be sent into storage-like campgrounds. Also like Pokemon, they'll be sent to a frightening elderly professor with hazy intentions.)

(No, not really.)

As if capturing monsters were not enough with which to concern yourself, you'll also dabble in breeding them with the monsters of your adversaries. This will be explained in a post below, along with every piece of info you need to compete with your fellow guild members.

BATTLING

Hello again! Glad to see writing like I'm working for the JCPenney Catalog didn't scare you away. Now, to explain one element of Battle Forest: Battle.

Battling's got to be the most exciting part of Battle Forest; as the head referee, I would know.

Not only does it evoke the most competitive side of our little game, it will also be (likely) your biggest source of income (currency in our game is heretofore referred to as 'points').

As aforementioned, four monsters may be in your 'troupe' at any given time; these will be the only monsters eligible for battle. Once you have exhausted the HP of all four monsters, you have been defeated.

My favorite part about this game is the referees. Every battle needs a referee. The referee is who takes into account the monsters used by both battlers, the quality of these monsters, the element of these monsters, and the attacks the trainers engaged in battle have commanded these monsters to use.

Check the link below to find out what a referee does (Hint: It involves deciding the outcome of the battle singlehandedly.)

BANKING AND POINTS

This game is run on a currency called Savage Points (often simply referred to as 'points' or 'sp').

Obviously, there is no way to automatically keep track of your points, so you'll have to log the results of each of your transactions and winnings in the Bank thread. (i.e., posting 'I won a battle and got 40 points. Add it to my account.' is sufficient.)

Don't worry, though. That's all the work you have to do. __penguin__will do all the heavy number lifting.

Ways to earn Savage points:

-Win a battle
-Sell an item, monster, or start a business (Note (4/10): Businesses will not be available for creation for a short time as the game develops.)
-Get a 50-post bonus for every 50 posts made in our forum

QUESTS

Now, on to the territory that will be run by Starlurk. Quests!

A quest will be essentially given to you by Starlurk, as your monster attempts to validate its skill with a feat of strength, speed, or intelligence.

All monsters start with 10 in all categories. They all start out clumsy and dumb -- just like we all did! However, with successful and frequent battling, these attributes will slowly but surely improve.

A direct quote from the referee how to about when to increase these attributes:

"Ask the victorious battler which of his quest attributes he would like to raise for the victorious monster.

The victorious battler may only improve one given attribute (for instance, they cannot improve three attributes by one, but they can increase one attribute by three); they can increase it by the amount A in the following formula:

A = Level of Defeated Battler - Level Of Victorious Battler + 2

For instance, in my hypothetical scenario, let's say Monster 1 defeated Monster 2. The defeated battler's monster was level 1 while my victorious battler's monster was level 2.

So, I subtract the victorious monsters' level (2) from the defeated monsters' (1) and come up with negative 1. I then add 2 to that to get the number 1.

So, I would tell the victorious battler:

'You can raise one of your Quest Attributes for the victorious monster by 1. Which would you like to raise?'

These categories do not affect battle, but instead solely affect your abilities to complete the quests that give your monster certain attacks and raises it to a higher level. So, you improve these qualities to help you complete quests, which assist you by leveling up your monster

BREEDING

When you've completed your first quest, you will receive the opportunity to choose between a few cool monsters.

However, these few monsters are only that -- a few, a selection of the many attainable monsters in our world.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you about them -- part of the adventure of Battle Forest is to be unaware of the potential species of monsters you can achieve. You simply have to explore to find all the different monsters available in our game.

How do you do that?

Breeding!

When breeding, you breed your monster with another player's monster to create a creature apiece for yourselves.

Warning: When you breed two monsters, these two monsters are no longer able to breed again so choose your partners wisely!
